Can we see more twin-timeline Sonic and Sally?

I'm not going to go into the specifics too much but here are some notes about their relationship.

Important to remember that these two are essentially the Prime! versions in regard to their past before being roboticized. However, we the readers don't know how long it was until they were roboticized since Nicole hadn't existed yet. So I'm putting their robotization and 'defeat' at ~16 yrs old, derobotization a year later (see image)

Their 'defeat' left Sally and Sonic was devastating injuries while robotizied, hence the prolonged effects after derobotizing

They've lost a lot of friends both during their initial defeat and progressively afterwards, I don't want to share who lived and who died to see it to the end (robotnik nuking the planet) but there'll be hints

Because of this^ they both feel like they really only have each other to confide in, leading to them developing a very co-dependent relationship where both are terrified of losing the other

They're both in this limbo of caring very deeply for the other, but not knowing how to define it as romantic or platonic. But those around them tend to interpret it as romantic, and so that narrative gets pushed onto them.

The twins were an accident, sonic and sally were pretty young as parents and felt extremely unprepared but still tried their best for the short amount of time they had together

Is your AU going to be a fic or comic or is it just going to remain as is?

I'd like it to remain a continuous mix of media. I'm having more fun experimenting with how loose I can be with the story and I'm worried I'll get burnt out if I try and dedicate it more to a fic or comic like I've done with other aus in the past.

Hi, hello. I was scrolling through your art a little while ago and this idea hit me and now I have to do something with it, so please hear me out-

In your future AU, you incorporate your Super Sally design into the story. Like in the destroyed timeline the twins come from, and right before Robotnik claims total victory, Sally has her big last stand moment.

She's out of options and goes Super to buy Sonic or whoever more time. Or maybe its a last act or defiance where the twins are already safe and there is nothing more to lose. Either way she's a Freedom Fighter till the very end and goes out fighting. Going super is not something she can do easily but its the only chance she has.

You mentioned her Super Form being unstable and all that so paired with her partically roboticized body you could have this really cool image of this ethereal, super powerful Sally destroying all these robots or whatever but it clearly taxing her body. The roboticized limbs are falling apart, unable to manage the chaos energy. It feels like any second she'll flicker out.

Maybe you already have a plan for a moment like this and it wouldn't work, totally understandable, but I wanted to share it while it was fresh in my mind.

Your AU stuff is really cool and I really like the designs. Keep up the awesome work!

Omg thank you so much! It means so much to me that other people are interested in my little au, even more that you're thinking of stuff I haven't yet!

As for the last stand against Robotnik, I'm still brainstorming some things out and will reveal more as I flesh out the twins' stories. The thing with Sally's prosthetics is that the majority of them are internal, a super form may be able to help with external injuries (temporarily replacing her legs), but it won't do much to help beyond that, even taxing her life force to keep the form sustained. So even if she succeeded with her goal, she wouldn't have lasted much longer.

But I will always take any opportunity to draw a super sally

The stupid part of my brain asked what if Mario existed in his own universe in the mobius 37 years later AU.

Then I got sad.

One of two things I guess would happen.

Mario died a hero. Or he finally married peach and outlived her, leaving Mario alone to tend after the Mushroom Kingdom.

There is no canon opposition to the idea that they can live forever

Can we get a rundown of your Mobius 37 Years Later AU?

I was going to save this for later and release some sketches with it but my tablet's on the fritz right now so I'll yap a little

Mobius 37 Years Later AU

tldr: Sonally kids who came from Robo-Robotnik's dimension, were taken to another dimension to keep him from finding out they survived and grew up in a dimension where its Robotnik was already defeated.

Sonic and Sally's childern from the alternative future, survives Robotnik's nuclear devastation of the planet via being put in stasis tubes. Since time travel machines are already a thing the freedom fighters have figured out by this point, the capsules are given coordinates to travel to another dimension where they can be safe. However, the attack damaged the capsules, leaving the childern stranded in stasis on a planet essentially devoid of life now.

Enter Prime!Sonic, who sometime after the events of #197 (being told by Zonic that the new Robotnik is there to stay in Prime!'s dimension), is contacted by Zonic to do "one last zone hopping favor." If you remember, he kept sending Prime! out on adventures (pre-Ian run) to save different zones since he has main character syndrome, and by this point Prime! is getting tired of dealing with everyone else's problems. Zonic brings him to the ruins of Robo-Robotnik's planet, and shows him the capsules where the kids were still being kept in stasis all this time. Zonic explains that he's breaking multiple rules right now since he stopped involving Prime! in saving other zones, but he couldn't stand by anymore and believed Prime! deserved an explanation on why he doesn't want to send Robotnik 2.0 back to this zone.

Zonic and Prime! make a deal where Prime! will continue to deal with Robotnik 2.0, accepting him as his "new" Robotnik, if Zonic is able to locate the destination AltFuture!Sonic and Sally had programmed the capsules to travel to. Zonic finds that in this dimension, Robotnik has been defeated, and has very little risk of him returning or at least would be the most prepared for if he did. Prime! travels with the two childern to this dimension and explains the situation to the Sonic and Sally residing there (dubbing them 37!Sonic and 37!Sally), and tells them that he will take care of the Robotnik who destroyed their home if they can help take the childern in as their own.

37!Sonic and Sally agree to take them in, 37!Sally already having parenting experience with her current child, who accepts the twins as her new siblings.

The twins grow up (were 3-5 years old when put into stasis) in an era of peace, only being told later in life that they were from a different dimension and that their parents were actually killed by Robotnik. The au essentially serves as a Next-Generation story, taking a similar approach with the Light Mobius arc where it's pressumed that this dimension had a very similar past with the Prime! dimension, with a few details changed here and there. Other notable characters in this au are Lara-su, the current guardian of the Master Emerald, various other new freedom fighters (not exactly the same ones seen in Light Mobius), older supporting cast such as Amy and Tails who serve as mentors, and Zonic who periodically checks in on the twins to see how they're faring.

The twins help (against the wishes of their parents) in fighting new threats and villains, all while slowing piecing together that they aren't from this world.

To understand who exactly these childern are and where they come from, please follow my sleep deprived ramblings below the cut

Essentially, it all focuses around these two carbon copies

Yep! And if you don't know who these are, they are Sally and Sonic's childern (unnamed, only the mobius x years later arcs actually named their kids) from an alternate universe set in the future after Robotnik has been defeated. Or, presumably defeated, since this universe is also the one that Robo-Robotnik (the one that replaces the original one in Prime!Sonic's universe #75) originates from, and has been secretely hiding in his spacecraft as an uploading A.I. for 20+ years.

Now, there is confusion on if this Robo-Robotnik is the same one seen in #19, who's Sonic was a half-roboticized cyborg and needed Prime!Sonic's help to defeat him. Ian Flynn has (can't find exact source rn) gone on record to say that these two Robo-Robotniks are different people, but it's explicitly stated here (#75);

That this Robo-Robotnik is the same person in both of the realities we've seen before. Meaning that the cyborg Sonic seen in #19, along with the other half-roboticized freedom fighters (who were "defeated", but that may not mean killed) are the same ones who are shown in the alternate future timeline.

Consensus: archie sonic writers probably wanted to merge the two alternative futures together for simplicity at the time, did it work? Who knows.

But for purposes of my au, these two Robo-Robotniks are the same. Which means that FutureKing!Sonic is the same as Cyborg!Sonic, and FutureQueen!Sally is the same one as Cyborg!Sally. But that's not all! These two are also the same ones from the Sonic in Your Face Special

What's special about these guys? Well they're the ones who "made" Nicole! There's a time paradox here so don't think about it too hard.

But by gifting Nicole to Prime!Sally in the early archie run, Prime!Sally was able to essentially create a new timeline because of the upper hand she got from Nicole, making Prime!Sally and Future!Sally different people now.

To wrap it up, these are the same people

ONE MORE THING, that I haven't really seen being addressed, is if this future timeline shown to Prime!Sally via Source of All (#sonic super special 11):

...is the same future as seen in #22 and #SiYF. For the sake of my sanity and the fact that it is also set ~20 years in the future like #SiYF is, I'm saying yes. It's the same alternative future being shown.

Doesn't matter much in canon though since they're all dead 👍

I love how you draw older Sally. You give off this excellent feeling of her never having stopped fighting. Be it against Robotnik/Eggman or fighting to restore liberty to her people, she's been doing this since she was a child. And thats taken an obvious strain on her. Yet there is still that spark of determination and unwillingness to give up that is so crucial to her character.

All in all, good stuff

Thx! I don't keep track of notes much, but this post in particular has been keeping a pretty steady stream of activity when I wasn't expecting it to (plus I haven't had an art post get to 300 before!).

And no, this fic would just be my own "rewrite" of the canon events of endgame. I do have a separate "canon divergence" au that I've posted bits of snippets here and there for, but I won't be incorporating that one either since I want to keep this fic a little short, and keeping that au would require a lot of lore dumping lol.

I haven't written a fanfic in a long time (I think maybe 2021?), and even then it was always for a different fandom. And the last time I wrote fiction in general was a little over a year ago. Gonna keep things slow so I don't get too ambitious.

How would you rework the Source Of All stuff to better work with Sally?

Oh how I love these types of questions, thx for sending it in! More food for thought.

If I absolutely could, I would make it so the Source of All wouldn't have existed. Its only real purpose in the story was to kinda excuse Max's shitty parenting skills and to allow him to continue taking over Sally's narrative role. Then be a big magic gimmick later on with Mammoth Mogul that can very easily be replaced by chaos emeralds. In an ideal world Max would be pretty absent, haunting the narrative and being a driving force for Sally to avenge her family's and people's freedom.

If I kept the Source of All in a rewrite, I would make it so that this wasn't a power naturally gifted to the royal family, but one that was forcibly taken and channeled into the material artifacts (Sword and Crown of Acorns). I think this would be a much more interesting conflict for Sally to tackle, because while it would make sense to utilize such powers to deal with Robotnik she would also have to face the reality that she's also abusing a power that isn't hers to keep. I think she and Sonic would have similar viewpoints like how he only uses the emeralds in times of need and doesn't hoard them to himself.

(and also because my anti-monarchy views are bleeding in here and I want to represent how monarchies actually achieve power lol)

I would get rid of the unnecessary pool scene, keep it just with the artifacts and occasional visions.

As for Sally's connection, I would only keep it if Sally made a pact with the Source where she'll free it of its attachments to the artifacts if it helps her recover the Robians' free will. That way we still have that important plot point where Sally can free her people and look badass while doing so, but it's only for a short amount of time. The Source of All judges Sally to be a person worthy of wielding its power, helping save her life such as in issue #100 (plus maybe a cooler battle sequence where she has her equivalent of a super form 👀 c'mon it's the 100th issue make it exciting lol). But as Sally uses it more it starts to bond with her, influencing her decisions and making her want to use its full potential while losing herself slowly in the process.

I will say though, when I was first reading #111 (which had the perfect chance for a cool "super sally" fight scene! 😤) I was fully expecting Sally to use the sword to try and free the children of arachnis' minds first and then realize she can't help them. If I went with this route it would be interesting for the source to prompt sally to "help" the children by actually altering their minds to her desire. At this point Sally would realize the source was consuming too much of her and she was at risk of using its power the same way Robotnik took away her peoples' free will. She concludes her pact with the source of all and rennounces their bond. Plot continues with her giving away the sword to the children of arachnis and everything that follows resumes.

I might add on or tweak details, but ultimately I want the source to let Sally be a parallel to Robotnik for a brief amount of time, and to teach her a lesson about going down that path and losing herself to gaining power.

Whats Helen's relationship with her "half-siblings from another timeline" like?

Helen was 7 when the twins first arrived to her dimension (they were 3), she was told that they weren't from this world and needed a family that could take care of them. Helen, like her parents, has a pretty strong instinctual sense of justice, and was surprisingly receptive to having new siblings for the sake of doing the right thing.

While Sonic and Sally figured out how to co-parent, Helen spent most of her time with her father. It ended up that Sally would take in the twins into her home with Sonic visiting everyday (or at least as much as possible) for a year until Sonic was able to fully take care of them every other week. Helen wasn't expected or asked to be super involved in the twins upbringing, with Sally and Shadow concerned that she might feel forced into being a sibling, so this ended up being a period where Shadow cared for spoiled her quite a bit. There were only a few instances when Helen had issues with her mother and feeling left out, but these moments were short lived.

Ultimately, Helen deeply cares for her half siblings and accepted them into her family without many issues, but her bond with them doesn't have the same depth as Sonic and Tails' for comparison.

There was also the issue with Sonic and Shadow not really seeing eye to eye for a while, especially with their parenting styles. They would bury the hatchet eventually when Sonic would come to him to help Miley, but it would take nearly 10 years to fully resolve their differences. Helen never really got close to Sonic as a result of this, though he is a fun uncle figure to her when she is older and not as influenced by her father.

☕️ Do you do any warmup sketches before drawing? (Do you have any to share?)

Depends on the vibes I'm feeling, many of my pieces start out as a small doodle or sketch where I was trying out something new but continued to spend more time on the piece.

Case in point^

I usually start out with a large canvas and fill it out with miscellaneous doodles and ideas until something sticks. I liked the Bunnie doodle in the right corner, so I expanded it to fit the whole canvas and added Antoine, then did some lighting practice. Occasionally, I'll just start a canvas with an idea already in mind, then make different versions of my idea until I land with one or a combination.

🐻 Your go-to things to draw when you need comfort?

Usually a favorite character of mine, simple sketches or sometimes more angsty drawings when I want to get some emotion off my chest

Theory trying to rationalize why Sonic is King in Mobius 25 Years Later: Maybe the reason Sonic became King was that King Max (assuming Elias didn't take the throne since the M25YL issues were before Penders decided to make Elias King) screwed the pooch so badly that he provoked a revolt that threw the Acorns out of the throne regardless of past service (poor Sally gets lumped in with her asshole dad) and Sonic found himself saddled with the crown because he's the 'hero' and heroes must be 'rewarded'. Sonic only reluctantly became King to keep Sally and her family from risking execution. Max and his wife are exiled, while Elias just stays with his wife Megan in Feral Forest and never returns home. Sonic marries Sally after things calmed down as a way to make it up for her, though this wasn't a popular decision. Sally is deeply affected by the events and makes absolutely sure not to show any indication that she's influencing Sonic's decisions or show any visible protagonism so as to not show she's 'pulling rank on Sonic' or 'stealing his thunder', hence why she's so passive in M25YL.

Interesting theory, I'd like to know if your theory includes Pender's intent that the M25YL arc is the future continuation of the main comic line, or if this is geared more towards an au.

One thing I will pick out from this is that if Sonic has already gained the respect of being known as a hero by that point, wouldn't Sally as well? One of her most defining traits, especially during the early run of archie, was that her title of princess didn't really matter and she was simply leading a group of children to take back their freedom. Even when Max came back she never put herself above her peers, she continued being a field leader until the 1-year time skip. I feel like even if the royal family was thrown out, Sally would be pretty excempt because she's already earned her people's favor.

If anything, I don't think the kingdom would be against her taking the throne, out of her entire family she's the one who truly acted as a leader for those 10 years of fighting. Though it would be a neat source of conflict if there were some people who were skeptical of keeping the monarchy around, and would be highly critical of Sally's actions to ensure she doesn't end up like her father.

As for Sonic, I could see him being involved since Sally would still need a husband to rule as a queen (if we keep that plot point from the comic), but he would be the one to have a very passive role. He already made it year in the M25YL that he doesn't feel fit to be a king, and that Sally was the real leader people should look up to.

The M25YL run could have been a neat way to show the aftermath of robotnik's rule and introduce a next-generation arc, but it focused too much on petty drama with poorly written characters. Very few characters felt like they were an actual progression on the ones we know from the mainline story, with too many being reduced to passive background characters (thx 90s misogyny).

unpopular archie stories i liked ummmm ive talked about my fav preflynn arcs before but tbh i liked sonic quest. i feel like we dont talk about sonic quest enough

I didn't know what Sonic Quest was until now, but now I wholeheartedly agree with you that arc was a banger

The artstyle is really expressive and dynamic, I wouldn't be surprised if they took inspiration from Sonic CD

Also first ever mecha/metal sonic appearance :) Excluding robot dopplegangers from the gag era. This one was Silver Sonic, he'll come back later in the comic but was inspired by Mecha (Robian) Sonic.

Most of the characterization here is done really well too! Tails gets a nice spotlight and showcases his intellect and skills with technology, which has mostly been reserved for Rotor and Sally so far.

Geoffery and Sonic have more typical hot-headed rivalry moments (also realizing that wow Geoffery really was this whole ass adult -at least mid 20s- picking fights with a 15 year old... and while pursuing Sally......) Anyways, part of the recap in the beginning mentions Robian Sonic which I am always a sucker for mentions of.

Sally does get the end of the short stick here, and it makes me realize that King Max's introduction into the comic was really the start of Sally's character decline as more focus was put on Max for being the one to lead the FF to victory rather than Sally (who's been doing alright so far). I understand why they would want Max back in the story for introducing more lore and conflict within the FF, but the whole idea that He has to be the leader and restore Mobius to what it was feels out of the blue.

Also, what an amazing detail that ended up sticking around to the comic's end 👀

What are Jules and Bernie doing in your AU?

Despite being some of my blorbos of all time, I haven't given much thought for them. Jules himself mentions in the comic that he's only got about 40 years left until his body starts falling apart. I don't think he'll want to make changes that would increase his lifespan, would rather stay with Bernie and Chuck and live out the rest of his life as much as a regular person would. With this au being "37 years later," Jules and Bernie are both reaching or are in their twilight years and are happily retired after spending some time traveling. Chuck being older than them has passed away, peacefully, by the au's present.

They don't know all the details of where the twins came from, but dote on them all the same. They wish they could help Sonic and Sally more, but unfortunately their own parenting experience was cut abruptly short.

As for Sally's side. Max is dead, died before meeting Helen as well. Alicia lives with Elias and had a falling out with Sally a while back and isn't really in the twins' lives. Elias and Megan are actively involved and helped Sally out a lot with her first child. Alexis is the fun, older cousin who pops by every couple years. Sally wishes Rosie was able to meet her kids, but she passed away many years ago.

Might as well make a master post to help answer this question.

Important things to note:

This is not an au of Mobius 25/30 Years Later, I've taken inspiration for sure, but the way the au is structured, both of these alternative realities can occur simultaneously in the same universe. The 'good future' of the au is a random zone where things just happened to be a lot nicer than other zones.

The twins' Background info is based off of canon events in the mainline comic, and is not based off of the M25/30YL arcs.

Things in the au are bond to change since the au consists of random text blurbs and occassional art drops.

Basic premise: Mammoth Mogul is the primary antagonist of this au, and comes out of hiding when the twins are older to investigate their true origins. Develops a nemesis/mentor relationship with Miley, and creates a divide within the family as he helps her question her and Eliza's 'belonging' in this world.

Sonic, Sally and Shadow: Trying their best to co-parent. With Mogul back in the picture they're all on high alert with the twins' safety top priority. Note, everything is platonic between these 3, Sally and Sonic share a deeper, more intimate bond than with Shadow but they've moved on from needing romantic interests to stay close. Their efforts at keeping the twins' origins are currently being threatened. Sally has stepped down from the throne and is helping establish the Acorn Council as the new government. Shadow is a medical researcher who has been more distant now that Helen is independent. Sonic when he doesn't have the twins, still travels the world and helps wherever he is needed, has spent a lot of time exercising with chaos energy and was an important tutor to Lara-Su and Helen when they were younger.

Knuckles and Julie-Su: Knuckles is in the middle of transitioning guardianship over to Lara-Su, even though it's more of a ceremonial role by now. Working with the Chaotix to find Lien-Da and create a peace treaty with the Dark Legion. They both know of the twins' origins, Knuckles is on the fence about hiding it from the twins themselves, Julie has a rough history with family secrets and isn't a fan of this approach.

Chaotix: As said above ^ and training the newest members. They do not know of the twins' origins. Espio has come close, but was told to back off when Sally caught him investigating and hasn't pushed his luck since.

Helen, Lara-Su and Léonce: Newest additions to the Chaotix and trained to be the first line of defense for their generation. Helen and Lara are noted to be the best users of chaos energy in the present day. Léonce is my not-powerful, non-violent oc that I adore. Together they make a strong team, just needs to work on communication more. Helen is the only one who knows of the twins' origins, Lara finds out later by accident and becomes more involved with uncovering their history. (Lara Su has not experienced time travel like she has in the mxyl arcs and in the mainline comic. yet)

Tails: Tails has a strong bond to the twins and doesn't agree with Sonic in keeping their origins a secret from them. He and Miley were very close when she was younger, and is one of the first to notice when she starts distancing herself and acting out. Eliza goes to him first about her concerns with Miley, and often drags him onto whatever adventure she winds up getting into. Currently a world-renowned inventor and scientist.

Bunnie, Antoine, assorted FF: still active in supporting the kingdom and its people however they can. Antoine has taken a role in the Acorn Council, and Bunnie helps run clinics for those dealing with post-robotization effects. Bunnie and Antoine are the only other people who know about the twins' origins, in agreement that it should be kept secret. Amy has set off on her own for a while now to pursue adventure and thinks there's something off about Sonic and Sally's cover-up. Rouge is onto Shadow about his secrecy in all of this but doesn't prod. Others tbd.

Zonic: checking in with Sonic from time to time, can't do it too much since his involvement with the twins is a secret even to other zone cops. Main priority is to make sure the Robotnik from the twins' dimension doesn't find out they survived, Mogul might be an issue with this.
