Blaine and Doxa is a really annoying ship mostly because of how long they spend agonizing over eachother. But you know what would make that indecision interesting? Neel
Imagine this: Doxa is in her last year at school. She doesn’t feel like her friends are real, and she’s struggling with family issues that she projects onto Celia. She’s eaten up with bitterness and has to share a room with the object of her hatred. Then Neel comes along. He gives her the perfect outlet for that frustration. They kiss, potentially they fuck, and Neel whispers plans of revenge in her ears. She thinks it’s just going to be some pranks, some petty humiliation, but Neel wants to take it further. Doxa is hesitant but Neel kisses her problems away, and reminds her how much she hates the prissy little princep. And it’s true, she does hate her, and she does love Neel. So she goes along with it, staging even bigger plots against the sevvie. Then the end of the year comes along, and Neel dumps her the second she’s not useful. She gets expelled for her actions, and she regrets them almost immediately. She apologizes to Celia but she can’t do much else. She feels used. She hates Neel but she she hates herself even more. She’s approached by the Guild who offers her a way to make amends. She seizes it with both hands. During her time with the Guild she gains confidence and gets closer to the other guy her age, Blaine. He super nice and she thinks she may be falling for him but she feels very uncomfortable. He’s stronger than her even though she’s the one with body gifts, and he’s willing to invade people minds without permission. He reminds her, quite frankly, of Neel. She doesn’t ever want to be controlled again. She avoids him. She banters with him when she’s forced to be around him, and a lot of the time it turns into full blown fights. Celia, who she feels indebted to, keeps pushing her towards Blaine, as does his little sister. She feels conflicted. She doesn’t want to. She’s not ready. And she knows Blaine doesn’t have the same reservations.
Isn’t that way more interesting?
Tl;dr: I think Doxa’s pining should come with the added baggage of a prior unhealthy relationship with Neel
