jenndoesnotcare replied to this post:
Every time LDS kids come to my neighborhood I am so so nice to them. I hope they remember the blue haired lady who was kind, when people try to convince them the outside world is bad and scary. (Also they are always so young! I want to feed them cookies and give them Diana Wynne Jones books or something)
Thank you! Honestly, this sort of kindness can go a really long way, even if it doesn't seem like it at the time.
LDS children and missionaries (and the majority of the latter are barely of age) are often the people who interact the most with non-Mormons on a daily basis, and thus are kind of the "face" of the Church to non-Mormons a lot of the time. As a result, they're frequently the ones who actually experience the brunt of antagonism towards the Church, which only reinforces the distrust they've already been taught to feel towards the rest of the world.
It's not that the Church doesn't deserve this antagonism, but a lot of people seem to take this enormous pride in showing up Mormon teenagers who have spent most of their lives under intense social pressure, instruction, expectation, and close observation from both their peers and from older authorities in the Church (it largely operates on seniority, so young unmarried people in particular tend to have very little power within its hierarchies). Being "owned" for clout by non-Mormons doesn't prove anything to most of them except that their leaders and parents are right and they can't trust people outside the Church.
The fact that the Church usually does provide a tightly-knit community, a distinct and familiar culture, and a well-developed infrastructure for supporting its members' needs as long as they do [xyz] means that there can be very concrete benefits to staying in the Church, staying closeted, whatever. So if, additionally, a Mormon kid has every reason to think that nobody outside the Church is going to extend compassion or kindness towards them, that the rest of the world really is as hostile and dangerous as they've been told, the stakes for leaving are all the higher, despite the costs of staying.
So people from "outside" who disrupt this narrative of a hostile, threatening world that cannot conceivably understand their experiences or perspectives can be really important. It's important for them to know that there are communities and reliable support systems outside the Church, that leaving the Church does not have to mean being a pariah in every context, that there are concrete resources outside the Church, that compassion and decency in ordinary day-to-day life is not the province of any particular religion or sect and can be found anywhere. This kind of information can be really important evidence for people to have when they are deciding how much they're willing to risk losing.
So yeah, all of this is to say that you're doing a good thing that may well provide a lifeline for very vulnerable people, even if you don't personally see results at the time.
#jenndoesnotcare#respuestas#long post#cw religion#cw mormonism#i've been thinking about how my mother was the compassionate service leader in the church when i was a kid#which in our area was the person assigned to manage collective efforts to assist other members in a crisis#this could mean that someone got really sick or broke their leg or something and needs meals prepared for them for awhile#or it could mean that someone lost their job and they're going to need help#it might mean that someone needs to move and they need more people to move boxes or a piano or something#she was the person who made sure there was a social net for every member in our area no matter what happened or what was needed#there's an obvious way this is good but it also makes it scarier to leave and lose access#especially if there's no clear replacement and everyone is hostile#i was lucky in a lot of ways - my mother was unorthodox and my bio dad and his family were catholic so i always had ties beyond the church#my best friend was (and is) a jewish atheist so i had continual evidence that virtue was not predicated on adherence to dogma#and even so it was hard to withdraw from all participation in church life and doubly so because the obvious alternative spaces#-the lgbt+ ones- seemed obsessed with gatekeeping and viciously hostile towards anyone who didn't fit comfortable narratives#so i didn't feel i could rely on the community at large in any structural sense or that i had any serious alternative to the church#apart from fandom really and only carefully curated spaces back then#and like - random fandom friends who might not live in my country but were obviously not mormon and yet kind and helpful#did more to help me withdraw altogether than gold star lesbians ever did

One more thing before I go to bed but I'm actually really tired of this narrative that because Blake Lively is better known that Justin Baldoni, and because she's married to Ryan Reynolds and is best friends with Taylor Swift, she had all the power in that dynamic.
Justin Baldoni was not just the co-star and director for IEWU, he was also a producer, and he co-owns and co-founded Wayfarer, the production company that produced the movie. One of the other producers, Jamie Heath, is also alleged to have sexually harassed Blake. And another producer and co-founder is Steve Sarowitz who is literally a tech mogul multibillionaire. Sarowitz and Heath are directly named in the lawsuit, and in the NYT piece, Sarowitz is shown to have been personally willing to bankroll the smear campaign against Blake.
Justin Baldoni is not some scrappy underdog working class hero who is getting steamrolled by more powerful established names. He is a Hollywood film producer with billionaire backing from a man more wealthy than Blake, Ryan and Taylor combined.
The fact that you hadn't heard of him, and you HAD heard of Blake, Ryan and/or Taylor does not actually change that dynamic much. Many people had not heard of Harvey Weinstein before 2017. Many HAD heard of some of his victims, a list that included huge household names like Angelina Jolie, Cate Blanchett, Lupita Nyong'o, and Madonna. That didn't stop him from preying on them for years, and not just early on in their careers but when they were extremely well-known. Gwyneth Paltrow is like, the nepo baby to end all nepo babies (not a drag just an observation) and was dating Brad Pitt when Weinstein made unwanted sexual advances towards her.
The idea that Justin can't have harassed her because he didn't have enough power over her is simply not based in reality, and I find it really telling that people were willing to believe Amber Heard brainwashed Johnny Depp winter soldier style into accepting her "abuse" but NOW suddenly they've all got PhDs in class relations. Alright. (Also male privilege is still real and men still weaponize it and I'm tired of people pretending that's not a thing lol.)
#i add taylor to the net worth comparison bc 1. people keep bringing her up#and 2. the texts do make her seem like the unofficial third member of that marriage lmao. and good for them#good post op#bl v jd

📝[ENG Translation] Joker Out exclusively for Style.
Before their performance at Sziget, Joker Out spoke exclusively to Style.Over.Net about what this means to them and when we can expect new music.
Article written by Meta Vrazic, published on 22.08.2024 on the Style.Over. Net website.
Translation by @kurooscoffee, review by a member of JokerOutSubs, proofread by @flowerlotus8
What do Tom Odell, Sam Smith, Bebe Rexha, and Kylie Minogue have in common?
All of these music giants shared the stage last week with the Slovenian band Joker Out at one of the biggest European festivals, Sziget.
Before their performance, they spoke exclusively to Style.Over.Net about what this means to them and when we can expect new music.

Photo: Vita Orehek
You're performing at Sziget, which means you're sharing the stage with some of the biggest names in the music industry. What does this mean for you?
Bojan: For us, this is a dream come true. Today (editor's note: on the day of the concert), we'll reach or even surpass our hidden hopes and dreams that every band starting out at 15 years old has.
Kris: I'd like to add that, in my opinion, it doesn't matter that much who is on stage before or after me. I focus more on which other performers have played on this stage at this time. In 2018, I listened to one of my favourite bands, The Kooks, at this exact time at Sziget. Lewis Capaldi also had his first performance at this time, and yesterday, Tom Odell got this slot. To me, it's an incredible achievement that we can compare ourselves with such names, especially in our region.
So you would equate yourselves with these artists? Do you see yourselves as equals?
Bojan: Yes, we're on par with Lewis Capaldi (laughs). No, we don't see ourselves as equals, but I would emphasise that this festival has 60 stages and over a thousand performers. So, being on the main stage at such a time is quite an amazing feeling.

Photo: Vita Orehek
In a recent interview, you mentioned differences between Slovenian and European stages. So, I have to ask – do you have a shower here?
Jure: Yes, I saw a shower. We'll definitely shower after the show since we're heading straight into a van and back to the studio.
So, you won't have a chance to walk around Sziget? When did you even arrive?
Jure: We left Hamburg at 7 AM, arrived at 11 AM, had a coffee, did a soundcheck, now we're talking to the media, then it's the concert, and back. It's pretty packed.

Photo: Vita Orehek
You've already performed for various audiences in many countries. Which audience is more demanding, Slovenian or international?
Bojan: Slovenian, for sure, because it's our home crowd. Other artists we've talked to also say that the home audience is always more demanding.
In Slovenia, we're omnipresent, both musically and in the media, so there are certain expectations. Some might even come to our shows hoping our performace would suck, so they can justify not liking us. Meanwhile, in other countries, they don't understand what we're saying, so they come just to let loose, dance, and have a good time.
International audiences sing incredibly well. If you closed your eyes during the concert and just listened, you'd think you were in Slovenia.
Kris: I'd add that someone willing to listen to music in another language is by default more open-minded and less demanding.
What's tougher: Sziget or Eurovision?
Jure: Eurovision, because we had no experience, and the pressure was much greater. We prepared for it for six months, whereas for a concert, you have a day or maybe even just a few hours.
Bojan: At Eurovision, it doesn't matter how good you are or what kind of performance you have. If you mess up in those three minutes, you're done. There are so many people there who don't care about your story or how precise you are—if you make a mistake, it's over. Whereas at a concert, you're there to have fun, and even mistakes are welcome as they make the experience more enjoyable.

Photo: Vita Orehek
How do you prepare for concerts? Do you have any special rituals?
Bojan: Not really. About 30 minutes before the concert, we completely calm down, practice a little, and then we all shout our motto together.
We've all heard stories about stars with very specific backstage food and drink requests. Do you have any special requests? What must be there for you?
Jure: Ginger shots, sour candies, vitamin water, towels...
Bojan: A mirror! It sounds bizarre, but there's often no mirror backstage, and before you go on stage, you can't check that everything's in place. So now we've specifically added a mirror to our list.
Is there even any stage fright still present before the concerts?
All: Yes, definitely.
Kris: Sometimes it happens about 20 minutes before the performance, depending on the day you're having.

Photo: Vita Orehek
And who's the most nervous?
Jure: Lately, it's been Bojan.
You now have songs in three different languages. What does this mean for your target audience? What is your target audience like, actually?
Bojan: We aim to have a good time. To play and enjoy ourselves, this music comes from us – and we haven't changed much during this time. Of course, we always try to find something new and different, depending on where the wind takes us.
I mainly think that you don't need to take this too seriously. If everyone checks their playlist and looks at the music they listen to, it's probably not all the same and monotonous. Why shouldn't it be the same for performers?
Have you ever felt that you aren't taken seriously because of the “boyband” label?
Bojan: We get this most often precisely in Slovenia. When we did interviews abroad, serious journalists approached us with a great deal of respect. They often even came to our concerts before the interview and expressed their enthusiasm and respect—you can feel that they take you seriously. Still, this doesn't bother us in Slovenia either, because, in reality, we are a “boyband.”

Photo: Vita Orehek
Do you ever get tired of any of your songs?
Kris: I always enjoy all our songs, but during a one-month tour in Europe, we involved the audience during the song 'Umazane misli'. And sometimes, while waiting for the audience, it drags on and gets a bit boring.
Bojan: Well, I had a great time even during those moments.
Of course, we need to check in on how the new album is coming along. When will it see the light of day?
Bojan: The album is expected to be “on time,” and you can expect it at the end of October. So far, things are moving well; we occasionally hit a “bump” that throws us off rhythm, but we're satisfied. We're doing well and holding up great.

Cozy, plz. You are killing me here. Absolutely floored by the Nyoka voice reveal vid.
I love Tia, I love Nyoka, I love Cecil, I love Emilio. The list is gonna grow as you share more.
Big dopamine rush when I see your work on my dash. It brightens up my day. Always proud of you.
(In reference to this) 💖DsdsfGdgdh

Thanks it was the most accurate depiction of my little vision 😭😭 I’d do more like it, but it’s veering a little too niche to be enjoyed outside of myself. So any future stuff like that is probably better off staying in the drafts, so to speak.
Why do so much when it’s easier to slap a still image over un-transcribed audio and call it a day? Sure would accomplish the same thing. I should be a corporate board member with an inflated salary so I can finally eat something outside of popcorn.
AS FOR OTHER CHARACTERS, aside from the one guy that’s still being revised (despite existing before Nyoka), the list will probably remain small 😩 I only really make characters if there’s a story I really wanna see (I mean no one else except @/oddberryshortcake the lorekeeper will see them, but still.)
still thank u for being proud of me let’s hope i don’t mess it up 💃
#cozy ask#twstposting#The fun part is that I don’t have many 💖#[simply does not count any associated supporting cast or family members if applicabke]#*applicable. [MINOR SPELLING MISTAKE… 🦔]#tho sometimes I feel like if I reveal more info on my end it takes any mystique and ruins whatever people project on them.#(<- extremely arrogant and delusional statement.)#Excluding Tia she is every run of the mill MC stand in.#Almost everyone has one. AND WHEN EVERYONES SUPER—#Every day and every new work feels a little less and less worth the time 🫠#I mean. What is any of this even doing for anyone#Whats it doing for me#its pixels in a fake scenario using skills that havent net any benefits and go unused day to day outside of hobby#WHOOPS TURNED INTO A VENT#thank god nobody reads tags#except that one time people did.

So after that post above, I've wanted to draw two chibis ( Not other Pokemon came to mind. Hence the post saying Eevee or Mew. I don't know who else could be a contender tbh ). And Well I love both xD. Internet still down, so apologies for the photo being through mobile ;-;
Tough to decide which to go for to use as a base for the enormous batch. Mean... I could do TWO enormous batches ( Not back to back ) 🤔. But that still doesn't help with the decision of who to go first.
Ps. I should note that, the reason I decided upon Mew and Eevee ( Sadly brain is blank on anyone else ) as contenders, is because they are both popular Pokemon in the adopt sphere and that, in my opinion, feels more easier to have ideas when implementing what Pokemon to put as fusion as onto them ;u;. Like... They are small and yet I have a much easier time on what to put with the Pokemon they are fused with >w<. It's why, in the past, I had a lot more larger selection when I made both Eevee and Mew adopts!
Pss. Once I do create the enormous batch of either, should I stick with the USD minimum to being $10, lower it to $5, or have it be in the middle of $7 🤔? Note that they are not set prices. Only minimum set of how low a person can offer. This does not 100% mean that they would be accepted right away!
#nymphrasis#ramble#art#my art#pokemon#eevee#Mew#Wip#Idk I am really leaning to this idea#Hence why I immediately went to work on both chibis#Maybe after the Galarian Ponyta adopts and a few art trades I can work on these enormous chibi adopts#Would have a really good safety net in terms of cash >w<#Esp since I now have another payment option#That being Kofi#I still debate adding Cashapp into the mix#Like yeah I have it but#I don't know how to receive payments on there#I only have Cashapp just to connect my PayPal#The only people who uses my Cashapp are family members#I do monitor the payments going in and out#I'll think on it
