The 10th Anniversary of the Sewol ferry disaster
꽃이 진다고 그대를 잊은 적 없다_세월호 10주기
On April 16, 2014, the Sewol ferry sank off on its way to Jeju Island, South Korea.
The news shocked the whole nation. Initially, the media reported that all the passengers on board had been rescued. But it soon turned out to be false.
Of the 476 people on board, 304 were killed. Most of the victims were high school students on a school trip to Jeju. They were told to stay in their ship cabins for rescue. They followed orders, but eventually, the ship sank with them trapped inside.
Meanwhile, the captain and some crew members were evacuated while the ship was sinking.
This catastrophic tragedy has sparked widespread social and political upheaval in South Korea.

Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected by the Sewol Ferry disaster. Rest in peace to all those who lost their lives in the disaster.

what she says: I'm fine
what she means: The Sewol tragedy happened 3 years ago, and family members of the deceased are still protesting on the docks where the capsizing happened with no sign of reprieve. The President has been impeached, but this leaves families of both victims and survivors hanging in this balance. Survivors of the capsizing were reported to self-harm or be dependent on medication for PTSD, going in and out of the hospital and trying to piece their lives back together. 295 students died on that ferry, along with 2 rescue divers, but nobody seems to speak of this or appear to have forgotten. The ship only started getting salvaged in March this year. When can we turn this page and call in the full investigation even survivors are campaigning for?

BTS “Spring Day” and Sewol Ferry Tragedy
Here are some connections I found between the “Spring Day” MV and the Sewol Ferry Tragedy. Never forget 0416.
1. Perhaps the most distinct tribute to the tragedy takes place in the carousel scene.
The color yellow has been used by the Korean general public to symbolize the Sewol Ferry Tragedy.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In the MV, the yellow ribbon are seen tied around the carousel, similar to the yellow ties used by the victims’ families to grieve their loss.
2. In addition, Jungkook seems to be the “main character” of Spring Day. He is the only one standing still in the scene above, while the rest of the members are moving around. Ever wondered why?
Tumblr media
Out of the 300+ victims, over 250 were high school students. Kids on their middle school graduation trip to Jeju Island. ‘97ers.
3. Jimin picks up sneakers from the sea.
Tumblr media
They could be anyone’s shoes. However, in Korea, most schools require students to change into specific indoor sneakers when inside the building. White, rubber soled shoes to be exact.
Tumblr media
4. Lastly, the thumbnail.
Tumblr media
It’s a beautiful still frame of Jin. What correlation could it possibly have with the Sewol Ferry Tragedy? I’ll let the pictures do the talking.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Take a look at the time stamp from the MV. 304.
As the the 3rd anniversary of the Sewol Ferry Tragedy is nearing, I can’t help but mourn the loss of 304 innocent civilians. As a Korean and as a human being, I will never forget April 16th. In 2014, my family donated money and joined the protestors in the streets of South Korea after the travesty, but there is still so much left to do. Justice has not yet been served and unfortunately, may never be served for the corrupt handful that ruined hundreds of lives. I hope the victims of this tragedy rest peacefully, and I hope the victims’ families have found some source of solace, some glimmer of hope, in the dark, endless tunnel. Lastly, I am proud of BigHit and Bangtan for refusing to cower behind the corruption of those in power. Dream, hope, forward, forward. #Remember0416

Today Korea Times released pictures from inside the Sewol Ferry after it was put on land after having been under water for three years. The search to find the remains of the still missing bodies (9) continues. Never forget 0416.

Here Are Your 2018 Primetime Emmys Comedy Nominees
The Primetime Emmy nominees were, as you probably heard, announced yesterday. The Emmys are one of the few awards shows that actually gives comedy a fair shake and, as such, here are a few things worth noting about this year’s nominees.
-Atlanta tallied 16 nominations -Alec Berg got nominated for writing and best series on both Barry and Silicon Valley -Barry got 13 nominations in its first season, five of which went to Bill Hader -Megan Amram’s Emmy campaign web series is, in fact, nominated for an Emmy -delightfully weird craft/sketch show At Home with Amy Sedaris on TruTV got nominated -Laurie Metcalf got nominated for Roseanne, which is the only nomination for the series that has been transformed into The Conners -the live comedy specials that were nominated this year were from Dave Chappelle, Steve Martin & Martin Short, Carol Burnett, and Night of Too Many Stars -Sarah Silverman’s atypical talk show I Love You, America got nominated as a variety sketch series
We could drag on and on about snubs, but that’s just a never ending rabbit hole that we’d rather avoid considering the amount of great TV that’s out there.

「 잊지 않겠습니다. 💛 To local friends, do you remember? Please do not forget. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀Rest in Peace, children. I am so sorry that you were not helped ㅠㅠ. I hope that soon the 9 of you who have still not yet been found are returned to your families soon, now that finally the ferry was lifted. I am sorry to the parents and siblings who must find the will to keep living after losing their precious babies and especially those who do so but have not yet received closure. I am sorry to the survivors who have lost their close friends. Even across the ocean we should not forget these kids, the divers, and the brave students, teachers, and staff members who sacrificed themselves to save the people around them, knowing they were risking their own lives. I'm sorry that there was such a long delay in raising the ferry, and even more so that it was not because the government "couldn't" but that they didn't want to. I hope now that PGH is out of office, things will begin to get rectified and there will be precautions so this doesn't happen to Korea again :< My country's situation is not one to preach about, but I just can't not express that you were too young and didn't deserve this. This disaster I personally will never forget, 4.16 🕯🎗」 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀#세월호 • #노란리본 • #세월호3주기 • #3주기 • #잊지말지 • #Remember0416 • #Sewol • #기억 • #힘내세요 • #0416
