Even for him. Before his death, he asked @reevesgabrels to re-produce and remix it, believing it had good material that could be rehabilitated. That’s a rerelease worth checking out. This is the last of Bowie‘s 80s #pop albums and in some ways ended his career, at least at the time - After this album he was so committed to not being “David Bowie” for a while that he formed the band #TinMachine with Reeves Gabrels and the Sales brothers #huntsales #tonysales on drums and bass. Picked up an interview disc from this period too #theinterview Listening to it now, it’s not that the songs are bad, or the songwriting is bad, or the production is bad. Bowie‘s two previous studio albums were current. They were good, current pop albums. This album, for 1987, sounds behind the curve. It sounds about three to four years out of date - we’ve heard most of this music before. The last of my #davidbowie #albums from the #90s that were just reissued. This jazz influenced album from 1993, #thebuddhaofsuburbia, consists of music written for a BBC four-part television series by the same name, which is based on a novel by the same name. Only the title track appears in the series, so this isn’t really at all a soundtrack album. As I understand it, the author of the book and writer for the series reached out to Bowie to write this music. This album represents the beginning of a recovery phase in the 90s, and with his other album released the same year, in #1993, represents a strong musical comeback after #neverletmedown in 1987 and the two #tinmachine albums.
