Deatherella does DOTY 2024 - Round 4

Here's the items I did up for Round 4. I made recolors, conversions, and a few new meshes. Most of the furnishings are IKEA based items since Steve-O's parents went shopping at their local IKEA store to furnish his study.

Let's start with recolors, shall we. Recolors on several Maxis poster meshes (Surf's Up and Yummers for my Tummers), the BV travel poster, and Veranka's Otter Be a Star painting.

Various rugs. Only one is in my entry. I had other ones to put in there and forgot to place them. There are square, runner, Maxis PS, Maxis Bull's Eye, 3x4, and 3x5 rugs

Sailfindragon's Santiago blinds recolored with IKEA's banana print fabric. I think I got the meshes at Affinity Sims so my link for her goes to her MTS profile.

I did a few 4to2 conversions. LightningBolt's Sega Genesis and game cartridges. It doesn't have a controller - the one in my previews and entry pics is from @2fingerswhiskey. Peeled Orange from Surely-Sims. Floppy disks from Carabiner's Computer Lab set.

New stuff !!!! IKEA HALLSTA. Straight off the cover of their 1985 catalog. HALLSTA is actually a sofa cover, not a sofa. But I made it a sofa since I am not talented at bending faces around enough to make it a slipcover. It comes with recolors in 13pumpkin's IKEA pallette. In my downloads folder, there is an .rar with the seamless fabrics if you'd like to use them on your own creations.

IKEA Tarnaby chair. I made this from the Karlstad chair since they were a lot alike. Only one texture from the IKEA ad for it.

Chia Pets !!!! Can't get more '80s than that. One for putting on your surfaces and one for sprucing up your yard - flamingo move over, chia pet is here!

Now your teens can be the cool kids in the hood with their very own (deco) Sony Dynamite 8-track player. I made this mesh from scratch and it turned out fairly well. Little more poly than it should have for a 1-tile object but I didn't want it to look all boxy. Recolors in all Sony's colors for it - yellow, blue, red, white, black. Let's not forget those 8-track cassettes. I made these with a model from turbosquid. I deleted all the parts that wouldn't show in our games and it comes in rather low poly. There are three 8-track cassette meshes - one laying straight, a slanted one, and two together. "Deatherella_8TrackCassette" is the master for all of them. Lots of 80's bands' albums recolors.

Being as uninspired and feeling less than creative as I am, I still wanted to do something for Christmas. So I bring to you TS4 to TS2 conversions of some of 13Pumpkin's 2021 Christmas gifts. To be honest, I was just waiting for her to upload them all, lol. (♥ u)

To begin: here are the Christmas Blocks, the Joy sign, the Ornament Tree and the Pine Trees. Meshes have had a second subset added where it made sense, have proper groundshadows and all original recolors are included, although not shown for the trees and the Joy sign.

Polycounts are: Christmas Blocks - 586 polys; Joy - 738 polys; Ornament Tree - 1104 polys; Pine Trees - 1176 polys. All are in Deco>Misc for 0 Simoleons... because gifts are free. ;) All meshes will fit on OFB shelves at 1 per shelf.

Heya :) Sorry if i am late to answer. My new pc doesnt let me play TS2 anymore, so i dont have the original files but:

Telephone booth mirror is from Buffsumm’s “Tavita Very British” living room set. It was converted to TS2 but i couldnt find further details. White stove is from BPS, made by Stef. 13pumpkin has a link to mesh and made beautiful recolors of it here

A lot of the sky downloads are confusing me. Can you help because there are so many out there and I have a bunch of them. So should I just delete nim's skies and replace them with the ones you created? Or what is the same and what isn't? Is there a master list somewhere? Plus I have the ones that lowdeus made and the ones greatcheesecakepersona made plus the lot versions of nim's skies and the ones 13pumpkin made and the ones poppet-sims made. I need to delete some stuff.

It can be confusing, I know! :) The main confusion, I think, is that each successive new sky is a similar but different mesh, although all of them are globes/domes that sit on top of and/or below your neighborhood's terrain. Think of them like bubbles with pictures painted on the insides of them. Your neighborhood floats inside the bubble, like the Earth inside of its atmosphere. Because the various skies are (for the most part) neighborhood deco objects and so cannot, for instance, share textures between them, each one is a completely separate and independent entity from the others, and they don't conflict with each other. So, if you want to and have a use for them, you can have every single sky that exists in your game at once, if you wish.

The issue, however, is that some of them you can use together in a given neighborhood and some of them you can't. The limiting factor is the size of the bubble. @lowedeus's mesh (and @greatcheesecakepersona's, for the skylines), as the newest of them, is also the largest in physical size. The older ones are smaller and so cannot be used with Lowedeus's skies and its clones because, if you place them on the same terrain together, the older one becomes like a smaller bubble inside of the larger bubble that is Lowedeus's sky, and you can't see Lowedeus's bubble through the smaller one. So, while you can have every single sky out there in your game, you can't use all of them together. So, you might want to decide which sets you like best for your game and its aesthetic and keep only those.

As for a "master list" sort of thing...Well, I certainly don't have comprehensive knowledge about all of them that might be out there, and I may have some details incorrect, but...A "Brief" History of Skies. :)

It all started with this object, which was made back in 2006, before the Seasons EP existed. It was an attempt to add an illusion of weather to the game, since weather didn't yet exist. That is a lot dome, which means that it's an object you place on a lot which "projects" a sky onto that lot only. If you wanted your entire neighborhood to have a sky, then you had to place one of the domes on every lot in the neighborhood.

Eventually, Psychosim made a neighborhood-deco version of that object, which was placed in neighborhood view and so "projected" the sky over the whole neighborhood at once, so you didn't have to put a lot-dome on every lot. This, I believe, is the mesh that most older neighborhood skies, like those made by Ja-viera, @poppet-sims, and @nimitwinklesims, use.

Then, @criquette-was-here made horizon globes, which sit underneath the terrain rather than on top of it, so that it "projects" a horizon from underneath the neighborhood. I actually never used those, myself, but I think they could be used in conjunction with Psychosim's skyglobe mesh, so that you could have both a sky and a horizon in the same neighborhood at the same time.

This concept of Criquette's was then expanded by Greatcheesecakepersona, who created a different horizon globe and textured it with panoramic "backdrops" drawn from various TS3 worlds. You see many players use these in their games nowadays. However, you can’t use them with the older skyglobes because the sizes of the globe meshes are incompatible. GCKP made them specifically to be compatible in size with Lowedeus's skies, instead.

Lowedeus's is the newest iteration of the sky idea, the latest version just released this past July. His added the innovation of different mapping approaches (which create different appearances in-game) as well as animation/rotation and semi-transparency, so that globes can now be "layered" so that you can use more than one at a time to create many varied environments by mixing and matching different skies together. (For instance: Solid "background" sky + horizon/skyline + semi-transparent/animated clouds.)

The skies that I just shared are all on one of Lowedeus's meshes, and so can be used interchangeably with all of his skies as well as Greatcheesecakepersona's skylines. They cannot, however, be used at the same time as the older, smaller skyglobes and horizons. That said, some of them have the same textures as some of Nimi's skies, since that was my initial goal in making them, so that those could be layered with animated clouds and horizons/skylines. So, if you have/get those, you probably don't need the ones of Nimi's that have the same textures as mine anymore. But otherwise, it's just a question of what works together and which "set" you like best and use most in your game. None are inherently "better" than the others.

As for lot vs. neighborhood versions, that's just a preference thing. I prefer to use neighborhood skies rather than having to place lot globes on every lot. But some people prefer the lot versions. If you're a story-teller, it might be easier to use lot versions so that you can have different skies for different "sets" without having to go out to the neighborhood to change out skies. But I would think that for regular playing, neighborhood skies are just easier. But that might just be me. There are probably other folks who'd argue the opposite. :)
