I'm so sorry for being away for so long. School/research/life stuff got so busy I had to put tumblr on the back burner... but I can proudly say that the end is near as I'm a few days away from graduating!! I will no longer be a Tired College Student, just... Tired lmfao.

for thousands and thousands of years, pigeons have been at humanity's side as messengers, beloved pets, and holy symbols. going back to the messenger thing, pigeons had been used extensively during the World Wars to communicate between different battle fronts. i highly recommend reading up on the story of Cher Ami, the most decorated homing pigeon in U.S. history who saved a battalion of almost 200 men during WWI.

BUT ANYWAYS, for the longest time pigeons were beloved companions to people in one way or another. but technological advancements and societal/cultural shifts meant shunting away the old, leading to the release/escape of so many pigeons. many had their lofts torn down, leaving them to fend for themselves when they had relied on humans for so long.

ofc, nature always finds a way and they were able to survive without humans directly helping them, but bc of their history, close proximity to civilization was inevitable. pigeons became 'nuisances' for just trying to survive in major metropolitan areas.

we literally BRED THEM TO BE COMFORTABLE WITH HUMANS. and now we despise them, abandoned them in every sense of the word--cast them off as nothing but dirty pests that should be culled.

disease transmission is def a concern, but it's quite rare for individuals to contract them--the only people who are at risk are those who have a compromised immune system.

and yes they do poop everywhere, i can see how that would be annoying, but they're birds. birds. you can't get mad at them for carrying out natural biological processes.

SO IN CONCLUSION, these once beloved birds who have played significant roles in the cultures of long-forgotten empires and thriving modern civilizations, these intelligent birds who have served as humanity's communication system since FOREVER, these gorgeous birds bred for their beauty and grace and represent a universal symbol of peace, are considered ugly vermin--rats with wings--bc they dare live within our human spaces even though we've purposely bred them to. after we have grown tired of them. after we had no more use for them.

these once celebrated, cherished birds forced to make nests out of screws and nails.

hey yall! just wanted to update you on where I'm at :)

sorry for being rather inactive!! turns out they weren't kidding when they said that research position would be time consuming 😵‍💫😵‍💫 that + regular classes + projects + exams + social life (especially since this is my last semester and I won't be seeing my friends for... well, ever) + a new relationship?!?!?!?!? = I've been very very busy and haven't had a lot of time to write, or even be on Tumblr for the most part. this also means that requests are gonna have to stay closed for the time being... sorry yall :(

but!!! I don't plan on leaving any time soon! it's just.... gonna take a while for me to get anything out. I have a bunch of things going on in my life that (unfortunately) take precedence over writing, but I still really wanna write some stuff for you all. to do that, I've been thinking about posting shorter fics or drabbles or (what i call) 'bullet point fics' while working on longer fics on the side. that way, this blog doesn't collect dust, I still have a creative outlet, and you can keep reading!

also, I've been thinking about moving my fics over to ao3. I had a really horrible dream that *everything* on my blog got deleted SOOOO for my peace of mind as well, i'll be moving all existing and future fics to my ao3 incase smth goes wrong on tumblr (which will be linked in my pinned post)!

i started this blog bc i recently got back into tloz and i just missed having a creative outlet. i'm studying smth that requires a lot of technical writing (marine biology!) and in the midst of all the scientific jargon, i felt like i lost the bright-eyed creative writer in me. thank you for giving me the space to reconnect with a part of myself that's been neglected for so many years :)

so question, do the Dimitrescu sisters meet their maidens in the order: Nicole, Antia, Laura? also dumb question, is Nicole a doctor?

Nicole and Anita sorta happen at the same time (the timeline is getting slightly fucked with Anita's fic so bear with me) and if I'm not mistaken it's around the spring of 2009

Anita gets to the castle just barely before Nicole together with other women that were either sent by Miranda or just coming from the village seeking a job. Then Nicole gets there with Duke's help (being one of the very few people from outside the Village to go there willingly). Nicole and Cassandra get together quite fast and are already together by summer-ish, while Anita and Dani's fic has a lot wider time jumps and it goes well into autumn/winter. That's due to a couple reasons but mainly because of Cassandra's "I wants it I gets it" attitude while Daniela is not exactly trusted by her family when it comes to her romantic life so she has to keep it on the down low for a while.

Laura comes around a couple years later. She's already there in To bargain for immortality, when Nicole gets infected in 2011 but her and Bela are very much taking newbie steps at that time. They just don't have to sneak around because there's close to no power imbalance between them.

As for Nicole's career path, yes and no lol. She graduated med school (early too) and almost completed her residency to become a medical examiner (examining corpses) but her mom and brother got murdered before so she had to book it out of there which is how she gets to the Village. She does become the castle physician by the end of Double edged scalpel though, as per Alcina's request. So she's technically a doctor practicing without a license. Very in character of her if I say so myself lol

Cassandra/Nicole: Who’s messier? What are some things they don’t agree on? Who is more sentimental?

Messy eater? Cassandra. Messy room? Nicole. Thank heavens that, while they always sleep together, they do technically have each her own bedroom because Cassandra would probably go crazy within 5 days if Nicole started to move her things from their neatly organized spots. Nicole's room isn't exactly full of junk thrown around mind you, but "organized utter mess" is a good descriptor.

They're both very likeminded, but something you'll find them bickering about is Nicole nagging at Cassandra for proper medical procedures and the occasional lack of sanitizing tools in between corpses. Nicole will instinctively go "sterile environment, Cassandra! Sterile!" When her wife just brings a bunch of knives in, and she'll gesture wildly at the man currently hanging from hooks and say "I'm trying to bleed him out, not give him life saving surgery!"

One of their bigger disagreements though is Nicole's willingness (and enthusiasm to be frank) to work with Miranda post mutation. Don't get me wrong, Cassandra is beyond loyal to the goddess, but she's also not keen on risking a repeat of the agony Nicole went through during the infection.

Surprisingly enough, Cassandra but only by a slight margin. Growing up with the most functional family out of the three sisters pre Cadou and then having Alcina as a mother made her into someone pretty at peace with her feelings. Now whether she shows them as often is a different story. Nicole grew sort of numb to her own mind somewhere along the line of constant drinking and her father's unwarranted punishments, so she actually doesn't get emotional as easily and is quite aloof most times

One thing that legit frightened Cassandra tho was when they all watched White God for movie night and halfway through Nicole was BAWLING.
