Gejutel goes ‘look it’s human nature to destroy everything they touch’ and he’s very chill about it. No moral judgement, destruction on an environmental scale is just a thing humans do.
It’s probably like, ‘Look, if someone told me that I had to spend every second of every day doing this ‘breathing’ AND I had to obtain multiple varieties of food and ingest them multiple times a day AND also water AND have to deal with these substances leaving the body in very unsanitary manners AND have to be unconscious half the time AND my body will do all sorts of other unsanitary things and I will have to manually clean it multiple times a day AND my body will change its appearance without my consent AND... *coughs* If existence forced upon me half the bullshit that it’s forced upon humans, I, too, would be out to destroy all existence.’

What is your opinion about the Noblesse anime until now?
I haven’t watched the actual season, just the pilot, but I was very disappointed with how they had Frankenstein act in the Mary fight - the contrast between Frankenstein’s school principal/around Rai act vs. how he acted as he fought was one of the big mysteries of the early seasons. Rai is adorable, but Franken and his everything is one of the best things about Noblesse.

IIRC, Noblesse and Zettai Karen Children both have the same in-universe starting year of 2010. The problem would be nailing down how the powers and their interactions work. What happens when the Union goes after the Major, or heck, the Esper Unit in general (because they would demand countries hand over espers/espers would have to stay in hiding to not be handed over) is kind of a driving question.
So... No esper unit, Kyousuke stays with Fujiko and her dad. Maybe there’s covert research into espers with the hope of someday having a force that could defy the Union (see the KSA), but they couldn’t be deployed w/o the risk of being found out about?
Maybe eventually the order is given to liquidate the Esper Unit and destroy all records so the Comericans don’t find out about it and tell the Union during the Occupation... So the Saotome betrayal could happen as per canon.
Let’s say the Union can’t take down overdrive’d Kyousuke, or takes unacceptable losses/eventually knocks it off - delete a few elders from the roster. So the Major does the mercenary thing despite the Union as well as despite an international treaty.
I would like him to become aware of Frankenstein - they’re both ‘fuck the Union’ but would not actually join forces bc Franken’s a normal scientist and Kyousuke claims that he wants revenge on all normals despite zero intention of actually doing anything along those lines bc it’s a mood and Franken is quite pro-humanity, so generally they want nothing to do with each other despite how well they’d get along if they actually knew what kind of person the other was? But both of them have their facades, so yeah.
Rai, though. Going with Kyousuke can’t stop Rai from reading him, Rai is just. ‘We’re adopting this sad child’ ‘Uh Master he’s 80... Ah yes, 200 is the age of majority on Lukedonia.’
Seira and Momiji - big sis energy. Frankenstein and Magi. Regis and Kyousuke being bratty at each other re. their respective school uniforms.
Head of Black Phantom as a Union Elder...

#33&72 Takeo xM 21 lol
Baby Fic & Stranded on a Desert Island
Regis yells ‘we have a runway’ on the way down.
Or Frankenstein actually owns a normally deserted island used for training, but it’s not a desert... of course, it might have been leveled and lost all those trees by now.
The stranded part... the issue is how to justify them being out of contact when Tao and Frankenstein would worry? Possibly some strikes at their heads destroyed their earbuds, so when a baby washes ashore in a makeshift boat they can’t call home for What Do/hand the matter over to Frankenstein.
So they need to keep the baby alive for five days until Boss and Miss Seira come in the helicopter to switch off for their training session. Tao’s not with them because he’s doing some upgrading and Regis has class?
M-21 talks about that first time saving the kids, and Takeo confesses that he tried to save people before and then found out that Shark killed them anyway. Tumbling into bed before actually getting together because although Frankenstein made sure they got a decent sex ed talk before being attractive people working at a high school, at least Takeo (and realistically M-21 too) had some sexual abuse in the Union and therefore don’t really see sex as special. The cuddling (because babies are supposed to be held, they know that much) is the emotionally laden thing.
They give the baby up instead of keeping them, all of them want the child to get to have a Normal Life and Frankenstein promises to make sure they go to a loving family. But if the Union wasn’t around anymore, it would be safe to go visit the kid... (Or epilogue scene post-series they do end up adopting the kid).

Since the fatigue hit rest has been a bigger theme of my work, so something I empathize with in Noblesse is that Raizel is Frankenstein’s rest.
With Raizel he’s home, with him he’s not alone, he can trust and sleep and be at peace.
It’s also an ancient thing: near nobles humans were safe because the nobles wouldn’t just stand by and watch them be hurt, so it’s instinct that near a noble is a safe place, so just being able to feel them nearby will lower stress levels.
So M-24 trusting Raizel was less about him being like a noble, and more that having noble powers let him feel Raizel better and he was still human enough to feel the way a human would about that. And Frankenstein has strong powers, so he’d be very sensitive~ So when he finds a noble he thinks he can trust, he just crashes, because he’s been pushing himself for so long and he’s so tired.
I also like the story about the housecat befriending the zoo cat for human and noble interactions - nobles aren’t really equipped to make friends compared to humans, but if a human decides to adopt them having a friend is nice. It makes Raizel happy to be of use, so that being near him lets Frankenstein rest... It would mean so much to him.

I know! I want to include more feelings, but the closest I could get to the headspace was this:
Slowly sinking back down into his seat, M-21’s fists clenched under the table, trying to keep his face blank as his fingertips itched with the urge to manifest his claws. Something was wrong with the kids. The kids that He and the Boss had entrusted to them, and something had happened to them right under their noses. He tasted blood; oh, one of his fangs had nicked his tongue. Even as he tried to relax his jaw, the small cut healed, leaving behind the tang of iron before he took a drink of his own tea to wash the taste from his mouth.
Unfortunately, the tea did nothing to erase the taste of failure, and they had failed in their duty to protect the students of Ye Ran. The way Tao and Takeo’s faces were suddenly expressionless said that they knew it, too. Tao was probably taking it personally, since he was in charge of security and damnit, he should have realized how long it had been since Ikhan had messaged him online!
Come to think of it, M-21’s gut clenched unpleasantly, it had been a while since the kids had invited anyone to place computer games with them. The last time he could recall them inviting Him, Regis, and Seira to the PC Bang was before the latest problem had arisen and they’d all been gone. Had something been off even then? Had they really not noticed that there was a problem before Takeo noticed? The feeling of failure crawled down his throat and threatened to choke him. He drank more tea to stave it off, staring solemnly at the table as Regis’ and Tao’s chairs were pushed back.
The short noble wordlessly went to help Seira move the dishes, and Tao was only gone long enough to retrieve his computer. The frantic clicking of keys soon filled the tense silence around the table as He slowly resumed drinking tea. The Boss hadn’t moved, but somehow the air around the scientist seemed…darker…and the human-turned-werewolf had to suppress a shiver.
“Last time Ikhan was online was two weeks, four days ago. There’s been no activity since.” Tao’s voice was cool and serious, and Takeo’s eyes flickered uneasily as he froze into unnatural stillness. This was Tao’s Mission Control Voice. He meant business, M-21 knew, and set his cup down to divert his full attention to what was going on, tuning out the sound of the dishes in the background.
Yessssss, excellent.

Okay, here’s something that might look good at the beginning:
“Something’s wrong with the kids.”
Takeo’s announcement, though quiet, succeeded in freezing the rest of the household in their tracks. Seira paused in the middle of picking up a plate, and Regis in the midst of getting up.Tao and M-21 had been doing the same as the young noble, except they froze in a somewhat awkward hunched-over position. Frankenstein went abnormally still, and He stopped mid-drink, holding a teacup halfway to his mouth.
The air seemed to hum with tension as Frankenstein asked, a pleasant smile on his face that had chills going down the Trio’s spines and the nobles straightening up, “What do you mean, Takeo? They did not seem ill on their last visit with Master.”
And he would know, went unsaid and heard loud and clear. There was no way Frankenstein would let sick humans anywhere near his Master.
Takeo was glad he was still sitting down. It made it easier for him to stare straight ahead and give his report. “When we returned a week ago, I noticed they seemed abnormally tired during recess. Shinwoo sleeping in class is normal, but I observed Yuna and Suyi also napping during my rounds. Ikhan drifted off more than once as well. Two days later, Yuna fell asleep standing up in the hallway. Suyi pulled her out of the way of getting knocked over. She woke up fifteen minutes later. All of the children have been showing symptoms of exhaustion. Shinwoo mentioned during lunch that he was cutting back on training. Suyi indicated that she was trying to lighten her own schedule. Yuna and Ikhan were both asleep during the conversation. Shinwoo informed them of the topic after the bell woke them up.” He hesitated, taking a deep breath before finishing, “Ikhan has also not had his computer in class from the moment I noticed something wrong until the present. Tao, when’s the last time you and Ikhan talked online?”
Tao paled. Okay, yes, something was definitely wrong.
(What do you think? Too sudden? Too dialogue heavy? Wrong person bringing up the issue? This is a first draft, so it’s subject to change.)
I don’t think Takeo is a bad option for bringing up the issue - he’s the quiet one, and as a sniper he’d be a trained observer. Tao would be more likely to start a conversation with the kids than observe them having a conversation.
I don’t think it’s dialogue heavy: you have lots of description of what’s going on with the people and motions - a weakness of mine, I need to work on having more than just the convo going on during convos.

My mental image of how that went down:
Humans: *See adorable noble child standing there, grabs child and walks away*
Gejutel: Parent! O.o
Gejutel’s parent: Let them do what they want, it’s good for them.
LMAO. Franken probably wishes Gejutel had been a bit more of a nosy busybody…or at least given Zarga parenting tips. It’s interesting to think about what nobles consider parenting skills if Gejutel considers Franken killing Urokai a practical life-lesson. You referenced mind-control being used by nobles to instruct children in Gejutel’s day in one of your fic, and I’m curious about if I could incorporate that into my fic. The ancient noble is older than Gejutel, so would it just be kind of surprised that nobles didn’t do that any more, or would it be like ‘Ooooo, shiny! look at how clever these squishy babies are!’? I imagine it would be very interested by all the languages humans have come up with.
Yes. Yes that is how it went down in my head.
Because nobles had no concept of what it might do to a child to think their parent put other people’s wishes above the (potential) welfare of the child, had no concept of the various problems that can come from separating parents and children... Like it didn’t occur to Ragar that Rael might end up a little messed up from his parent choosing to go into eternal sleep and abandon him. Gejutel got lucky.
In noble and human psych (and therefore cultures that are accommodating to said psychs), a major difference is mortal vs. immortal. Mortals have ‘you need to do things in order to survive’ while immortals are ‘don’t forget, you’re here forever,’ and therefore you have to live with having done bad things/having the negative impact on your life from having bad attitudes. To Gejutel, the negative consequences that come from Urokai continuing to behave that way over the long term are such a bad thing that he’s pretty ‘why would you do that? Has Urokai already annoyed you that much, that you want him to suffer’ to intervening and possibly preventing Urokai from learning the lesson. While to a human observer, it’s the potential death that’s the bottom line there.
In my head, some of the nobles who absorbed human viewpoints a little too much ended up among the bad guys, like Lagus Tradio. Because there are some things that are basic common sense for humans/mortals/beings who need to eat or else that are crazy-making chaotic evil to a species with an entirely different, post-scarcity hierarchy of needs.
Lagus Tradio was going traveling in the human world even after the confinement on Lukedonia, and was prettymuch above suspicion - no one thought he would use or abuse humans. In my head, he ended up the way he did per canon because he acculturated/started thinking like us too much, while Gejutel might like humans and have a fairly good idea of how we roll, but his value judgments are entirely based on traditional noble thought.
This is like number six on my list of reasons for separating the species: nobles needed to develop/get practice with a noble-centric culture incorporating human developments like language instead of human thought modes ending up dominant in the shared culture bc humans were the ones developing the majority of the memes.
It’s been pointed out that Frankenstein acts more like a noble than a human in some ways, and yes: most of those ways have to do with how someone would need to act to be a good person as a post-scarcity immortal - the stuff where it’s not about species, it’s about culture as toolkit for navigating different sorts of environments.
Most of the rhetoric given by the traitors for why humans are competition/’the enemy’ makes sense from a human viewpoint but is absolute gibberish from a traditional noble viewpoint. Nobles thinking like humans isn’t a good thing because it’s how people who don’t need to eat start thinking like the species are hunter-gatherer tribes in direct competition for resources when that has nothing to do with the current situation (and a lot of humans could stand to be hit over the head with that).
The problem is that if nobles are learning how to think like humans, then how do they learn when NOT to think like us?
...*coughs* Getting back on topic, the language explosion might come as a surprise - the removal of nobles may have been a Tower of Babel situation because humans were no longer able to easily learn other people’s languages and clear up/avoid misunderstandings caused by different meanings.
