Lately, I couldn't remember those years, as if childhood was a movie I'd only seen the previews to.

greg's partial responsibility for andrew dodds' death being cemented as narratively significant through the deer symbolism fucks me up whenever i think about it. and he's never shown to even be aware of the dead waiter being the same guy he smoked with so it only tracks that what greg really did was kill a part of himself, and specifically through trying to align with kendall. maybe andrew just represented the naive stoner in him that greg had certainly eroded away but i think he was also the gay side? bc greg had just had that fight with tom where he tried and failed to keep tom from getting married, and it would make a lot of sense for greg to try to quash the feelings he had for him. god i'm sick

Rewatching the s1 finale and how mentions of manslaughter/killing casually sprinkled in the first bit of the episode are so so chilling. Shiv joking about killing the stripper at the bachelorette party, Gerri saying Roman could be facing corporate manslaughter charges. These people don't see workers as real humans (further foreshadowed by Greg also being referred to as expendable earlier in the season, the only member of the family shown to be in an actual job) and it's planted from the beginning and it's so awful and sickening. God the writing on this show

Let me say that whoever invented wanting, whoever came up with desire, whoever had the first one and let us all catch it like a hot-pink plague, I would like to tell that person that it wasn't fair of him or her to unleash such a thing upon the world without leaving us a warranty or at the very least an instruction manual about how to manage, how to live with, how to understand this thing that can happen in a person against her will, by which I mean desire and the need it gnaws in us and the shadow it leaves when it's gone.

I fully believe that tom wouldn't have confronted shiv about her cheating if not for greg. like he's 1) the one person who ever expresses a desire to see tom truly happy (as in outside of monetary success), which gave tom the final bit of drive he needed to want it too, and 2) a rare source of happiness himself. he's someone that tom sees as "the right horse to bet on," as opposed to shiv, from very early on. tom would not have DARED risk shiv calling the wedding off if greg wasn't in the picture.

John Berryman's haunting poetry really fits for Succession. Also his line "Save us from shotguns and fathers' suicides" 😥

SUCCESSION (2018 – 2023) season finales + final shots
There sat down, once, a thing on Henry's heart só heavy, if he had a hundred years & more, & weeping, sleepless, in all them time Henry could not make good. Starts again always in Henry's ears the little cough somewhere, an odour, a chime. And there is another thing he has in mind like a grave Sienese face a thousand years would fail to blur the still profiled reproach of. Ghastly, with open eyes, he attends, blind. All the bells say: too late. This is not for tears; thinking. But never did Henry, as he thought he did, end anyone and hacks her body up and hide the pieces, where they may be found. He knows: he went over everyone, & nobody's missing. Often he reckons, in the dawn, them up. Nobody is ever missing. —Dream Song 29, John Berryman.
