Hello, anon who talked about monster hunter IK here.

Thanks to the teaser trailer for the next monster hunter game being revealed at the game awards and beating the "main storyline" of Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak (with the lead up to the final boss filling me with genuine shock, dread, and a bit of horror) last night, I'm now back to having monster hunter IK on the mind.

So, in monster hunter, there is a classification of monsters known as "Elder Dragons" that if I remember correctly, while many do resemble dragons, is what they classify monsters that don't really fit into any other category of monster. Many elder dragons are (at least lore-wise) able to alter entire ecosystems just by existing in them, while others are so dangerous that they need to be killed as soon as possible after they show up because they're so dangerous they could be considered world-ending.

They also are smart enough to not be caught in traps, so the only way to deal with the non world-ending ones is to hurt them enough to chase them off or kill them.

My question is, do you think this IK and Noctifer would have ever slayed an elder dragon? Would it be one of the weaker ones or one of the "kill on sight" ones? Is this something that ever comes up in conversation with any of the others?

i was thinking that the concept sounded kind of familiar and then i realised that it's actually similar to how i envision the role of the 'strange creatures' in that evolution line mock-up thing i made... ohoho what if in this au they are one and the same thing

on the one hand it'd kind of break the whole power distribution of the whole thing if ik & noctifer were to have slain one, but on the other it'd also be really funny... i mean, it goes with the whole 'video game logic' line of reasoning, since it's fairly common for game heroes to slay universe-breaking beasts either by some quirk of the plot or by sheer raw power (and it's not like we haven't had cosmos-breaking strength in an au before - take the traveller ik au for example)

i feel like they don't bring it up since it's just sorta "oh, just another day's work!" to them at this point. demons as a whole aren't super versed with their own evolutionary history, but diavolo and barbatos (and probably lucifer) would at least be somewhat familiar with it...

maybe diavolo shows them some mural of "the coming of the creatures" which depicts them shaping the devildom's mountain ranges or something similar, and ik points it out to noctifer - "hey we killed one of those guys before!"

diavolo of course is just like "what." it's one of those makes-you-question-your-entire-existence moments

Do you respond to comments, why or why not? Ideally I would, practically I don't 😔 I intend to reply to many of them, as I do really appreciate comments very much. The problem is that there are just so many, I have almost 1200 unanswered at this point. It's overwhelming, as it takes a form of social energy that I have very little of on a day-to-day. I always assume readers would prefer I spent my spoons on writing more for them, or at least I hope so.

What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending? I think Satellite Mind is ambiguous and implies a very tragic ending is possible. I like to end my stories on the high of sex and union, so angst with a happy ending is my jam. I don't like leaving the ship as broken and sad as I found it hahaha

Do you write crossovers? If so what’s the craziest one you’ve written? Nope!

Have you ever received hate on a fic? Not really on ao3, I mean there have been some annoying comments, but tumblr is where most of the 'hate' comes from.

Do you write smut? If so what kind? I do, yeah. All of my works contain explicit content. Not sure exactly what "what kind" means, but I have a vast array of smut from sweet to kink. I think that desire and physicality are a huge part of obikin, and that the non-verbal communication of sex is fascinating and revealing.

Have you ever had a fic stolen? Nope!

Have you ever had a fic translated? Nope. Someone once offered to translate LT into Italian, but nothing came of it, which is valid as it would probably be a tremendous amount of work.

What’s your all time favorite ship? Obikin, always and forever.

What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will? I only have one WIP at the moment and I haven't published it yet, but I am sure I will finish it once I do. I think My Ananke will always have room to grow, so I don't want to finish it haha

What are your writing strengths? I think dialogue, and then plot/AU-development I guess. I think my erotica is pretty good.

What are your writing weaknesses? I think that I'm pretty rigid and locked too much into a very limited 3rd person POV, which makes it difficult to write action or narrative that skips time. It's too granular, I guess.

What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic? I think the only time I've done this was in LT where I wanted to have the equivalent of incomprehensible Sith whispering and used Ancient Greek. I just wanted it to be unreadable and assumed most people would not be familiar with the alphabet. I think it can be useful when done with awareness.

What was the first fandom you wrote for? Star Wars! I think I mentally plotted out a very derivative dramione fic in summer 2008, but no writing occurred. It took obikin to unlock my creativity lol.

What’s your favorite fic that you’ve written? Lex Talionis, no question. I know it contains some rough sex and dark themes, and is not for everyone, but for the people who Like and Get it, it seems to really be impactful. I think the scope of the story is large, the structure of the plot is solid, and the emotional arcs are complete. I'm really proud of it haha
