Exporting U.S. Antitrust Law: Are We Really Ready for NOPEC?
Exporting U.S. Antitrust Law: Are We Really Ready for NOPEC?
The year is 1979. Inflation and lines at the gas pumps caused by a revolution in Iran have stunned Americans. Driven to action, the International Association of Machinists (IAM) files suit in the Central District of California against OPEC and its 14 member countries for participating in a cartel that controls the worldwide price of oil. None of the defendants made any kind of appearance before…

The oil producer group in early October announced its largest supply cut since 2020, to the tune of 2 million barrels per day from November, which its members say is designed to spur a recovery in crude prices to counter a potential fall in demand.
For this, Biden said in an interview with CNN on Tuesday that there would be “consequences.” He did not go into further detail as to what those consequences might be.[...]
In an earlier interview with CNBC, Sen. Chris Murphy, D-Conn., asked, “What’s the point [sic] of looking the other way when the Saudis chop up journalists and repress political speech inside Saudi Arabia if when the chips are down, the Saudis effectively choose the Russians over the U.S.?”[...]
Beyond withholding military aid, there are legal channels the U.S. government can pursue.
One is the NOPEC bill, which stands for No Oil Producing and Exporting Cartels. This would classify OPEC as a cartel and subject its members to antitrust legislation. [...]
“Both of these options would threaten to break already fraught relations, which in turn would put even greater upward pressure on oil and fuel prices,” Soltvedt said.
“In short, a breakdown in U.S.-Saudi relations would mean a higher Middle East risk premium for the global oil market and higher oil and fuel prices,” he said. “This is the opposite of what the White House is trying to achieve ahead of midterm elections in November.”

Day Thirty-Four
My day was all about current events today, which means it was awesome and also slightly exhausting.
I had my GOV students read some news articles about upcoming budget and debt ceiling fights (since last week we discussed the structure of powers of Congress, the legislative process, and the federal budget), which we discussed. I fielded a lot of questions because that’s complex stuff, and led a discussion about the strategy involved in these negotiations in congress, the reasons why budget stuff tends to get kicked until after midterms, etc, etc... Then we read about the recent OPEC meeting, the NOPEC bill, and the bill Rep. Khanna introduced to end arms sales to Saudi Arabia. Again, I was getting at what the powers of Congress are and how they’re used, how that process actually works in practice, but also at how other countries try to influence the US economy in the lead-up to elections since a lot of voters base their choices on the state of the economy. It’s “see the whole board” stuff, and they’re beginning to grasp how it’s done, how to spot the interconnectedness of things. So it was a very cool class.
My World students did current events write-ups last week, so I started class today by asking them to share what they’d written about. I said they could read their write-ups aloud, read parts of them, briefly sum them up, whatever they wanted to do. In my Block 2 section, I had students do all of the above; I love how many of them volunteered to share, and to discuss the news. It was a lot of fun. In my Block 3 section, it was rowdy. A couple of students just kept blurting out their reactions or questions in response to their classmates, and I know it’s a combination of genuine curiosity and attention-seeking (the volume at which it’s done tends to be the way to spot the difference), so I had to get them back to raising their hands to speak, which took some effort. I also had to keep the discussion from veering into outlandish hypotheticals- it’s something many of them are fond of- and keep the tangents from going too wild (like, they went on one about life insurance that got oddly heated because I told them faking a death- or actually killing somebody- to get  the insurance money was, y’know, a crime; they were convinced no one would be able to prove it). It’s fun, but also kind of exhausting!
There was also a whole conversation about celebrity culture, and why i don’t teach a unit on that. I said I find celebrity stuff boring, one of my students said, “Yeah, unless it’s BTS, Miss M!” I laughed and conceded that point, and added that it’s just my opinion. They can be totally into celebrity culture, they can write their current events about Kardashian drama, or Tom Brady’s divorce, or whatever if they really want to. I just have other things I base my units on, and things the state requires me to teach, and only so much time to do it all.
And, with that, I moved on back to the unit’s work on religions, and had everyone annotate an article about Hinduism and Buddhism. We discussed it, then I showed a video clip of a day in the life of a Hindu priest. Cue another discussion because there’s a symbol in the Hindu temple that looks like a swastika, and that was startling to several of them. And cue a discussion about language because I used the word “Nazism” while explaining what the symbol really was, and a student asked if that meant the Nazis made their own religion because the names of a lot of religions end with “-ism,” so I explained that suffix can indicate other kinds of beliefs, such as political beliefs, as well.
Yay for all that learning! Phew!
At the end of the day, I was talking to Ms. A (we have the same prep time) when the results of freshman student council elections were announced. I don’t know for sure it’s related, but a few boys took off running through the halls right afterwards, stomping as loudly as possible, and shoving each other into the walls. So I went out and, in my very loud and scary Teacher Voice, told them to get their hands off each other and go back to class. Or, at least, I meant to say that. What I actually said was, “Get you hands off each other and go away!”
So that’s slightly harsher than what was in my head, but it was effective. They made themselves scarce. A handful of my ninth graders were next door in Mr. F’s room, so they heard me, which will do things to my reputation (as they’ve never heard me yell since I don’t do it in class). We’ll see if they have any comments tomorrow.

FirstEnergy Ohio Wants to Change Bill Language
New Post has been published on https://www.ohenergyratings.com/blog/firstenergy-ohio-wants-to-change-bill-language/
FirstEnergy Ohio Wants to Change Bill Language
Multiple Agencies Seek Bill Language Input
How your utility keeps you informed depends a lot on language used in your monthly bill. Learn how changes can affect your Ohio electricity choice decisions and how much you pay.
For Ohio utilities, changing the language in your electricity bill can be a headache. Luckily, the process doesn’t directly affect consumers. But there are times when changes in bill language does matter a whole lot. Recently, FirstEnergy Ohio asked the PUCO to change the language in their bill. The change seeks to simplify bills and inform customers. However, three public agencies have complained the changes will hurt consumers. They are: the Office of the Ohio Consumers’ Counsel (OCC), Northeast Ohio Public Energy Council (NOPEC), and the Ohio Energy Leadership Council (OELC). To help FirstEnergy customers know what to expect, we’re going to review those complaints. And then see how FirstEnergy Ohio wants to change their billing language.
What Is In Your FirstEnergy Bill?
FirstEnergy proposed a few changes to their bill. Firstly, they want to move the language for the PTC to the second page. They also want to include a link to their online bill calculator. All this sounds well and good. But there are a few things that are coming under dispute. For instance, removing the instructions for reading a meter dial, and removing local telephone numbers from the bill entirely. As such, the changes have come under scrutiny.
FirstEnergy’s Bill and Language Style
The reason behind the pushback has more to do with the process itself. When PUCO does not respond to bill change requests after 45 days, they are automatically approved. For that reason, the OCC wants to pause the process so the commission can review the changes. The OCC’s request also revealed several major issues with the changes. For one thing, FirstEnergy did not provide an example of a current bill to compare with their proposed changes. Another change removes instructions for reading an analog meter. However, not all homes in Ohio have updated to a digital (AMI) meter and still rely on analog meters. And lastly, some changes leave out local agency phone numbers and provide inaccurate web addresses, including for the OCC.
Slowing Down The Process
The main goal of these complaints is to slow down the process. Of course, this kind of process tends to take forever. But the goal is to keep Ohio electricity consumers from paying too much on their bills. But while bill language reviews shouldn’t take up all PUCO‘s time, such filings still need proper oversight. And when it comes to your bills, they need to comply with Ohio law. The OCC and OELC want PUCO to take the time these changes require. Customers should get the most understandable bill to prevent any misunderstandings and this is a way to ensure that.
With these filings, the changes to your FirstEnergy bill will take while. But you can be sure that they’ll be for the best. We’ll bee keeping you updated on the latest with your electricity bills at www.ohenergyratings.com

FINAL UPDATE FOR ALL
Tumblr media
Congress has declared war on Russia along with the rest of NATO. There has been overwhelming military force now given to Ukraine.
This has also been followed up by the now Pro-Democracy and feminist China, controlled by Pyburn, attacking the southern border of Russia.
China and Taiwan have unified under the democratic government of Taiwan, and now China will be known as West Taiwan.
Congress has sided with the NSA to reform the National Security Act of 1947. In this, the NSA has now become the most powerful organization within the IC, and this new IC will be under the New American Review Committee (NS-Slay), which is headed by Lenzer. Congratulations on your new appointment! May you all live peacefully as one (under the NSA).
Members of this organization are all under re-investigation, and will be rooted out hopefully before the reorganization takes place!
Of course, due to the great slow movement of bureaucracy, nothing has changed in this very moment
Through the covert operation, and the power of Phil Swift, all of Russia’s nuclear weapons have been flex sealed to the ground and will be unable to be used for the rest of time!
Russia has begun to fall and divide to this multitude of fronts, with breakaway governments starting to be created further out west.
The US has become completely oil-independent from the rest of the world through an increase in production in Alaska, North Dakota, and Texas. Any further losses in oil will be made up for in widespread fracking!
Mike Pence has been found dead, killed by a poisoned burger from Borscht Burgers. In memorial, he will be put on the $10 bill and his brother Michael Pence will oversee the NOPEC proceedings.
Atkinson has been killed in an apparently failed kidnapping where two separate groups tried to take him. But, he was also then contacted successfully through the afterlife, though the Russian priest who did so is unwilling to relay what they saw.
A Russian oligarch has supported the Roses movement, which was associated with the hallucinations caused by skittles, and thrown their support behind the founder of it Rojas!
Bo Biden's family is holding a memorial for there loved one, who spread so much misinformation across the internet. They died doing what they loved in the NSA.

Democrats Pushing ‘NOPEC’ Bill To Punish Saudi Arabia… Instead Of Just Producing Our Own Oil
After the recent snubbing of President Joe Biden by Saudi Arabia and other OPEC nations following his request that they increase oil production, Congressional Democrats are rushing to the President’s aid. Rather than increasing American energy production, Democrats are threatening retaliatory measures against the House of Saud. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) has put out feelers on a…

Joe Biden to re-evaluate Saudi relations after Opec cuts White Home says
US president Joe Biden is re-evaluating America’s relationship with Saudi Arabia after the Opec+ resolution final week to chop oil manufacturing, a high White Home adviser stated on Tuesday, as tensions between Washington and Riyadh proceed to rise. “I believe the president’s been very clear that it is a relationship that we have to proceed to re-evaluate, that we have to be keen to revisit, and definitely in gentle of the Opec resolution, I believe that’s the place he’s,” John Kirby, the Nationwide Safety Council’s senior communications adviser, instructed CNN on Tuesday. Kirby’s feedback come after senior Democrats on Capitol Hill have been calling on the White Home and Congress to take a a lot more durable stance on Saudi Arabia in gentle of the manufacturing cuts, which have been introduced simply 4 weeks earlier than the US midterm elections, threatening a brand new surge in oil costs. Bob Menendez, chair of the Senate international relations committee, known as for a freeze in co-operation with Saudi Arabia, presumably together with a halt to weapons gross sales to the dominion. “I cannot greenlight any co-operation with Riyadh till the dominion reassesses its place with respect to the battle in Ukraine. Sufficient is sufficient,” Menendez stated. Different lawmakers, together with high Democrats on the Senate judiciary committee, are calling on Congress to approve “Nopec” laws, which might empower the Division of Justice to convey price-fixing circumstances towards oil cartels, stripping them of sovereign immunity. Kirby stated Biden was “keen to work with Congress” on punitive steps towards Saudi Arabia and that these talks would begin instantly. “I don’t suppose that is something that’s going to have to attend, or ought to wait, fairly frankly, for for much longer,” he added. Really useful Biden had already vowed to recalibrate the US-Saudi relationship early in his White Home time period after promising to make Riyadh a “pariah” through the 2020 presidential marketing campaign amid anger on the killing of journalist Jamal Khashoggi. However after petrol costs rose sharply this yr, pushed by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, US officers sought to patch up ties with Saudi Arabia. In July, Biden visited the dominion, greeting Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman with a fist bump. Final week’s manufacturing cuts have been seen as a serious blow to the connection in Washington, nevertheless. Biden branded them “shortsighted” as quickly as they have been introduced, whereas Janet Yellen, the US Treasury secretary, instructed the FT they have been “unhelpful and unwise” in an interview forward of this week’s IMF and World Financial institution annual conferences in Washington. Shop Reliable Deals Before NOPEC Restarts Service
New Post has been published on https://www.ohenergyratings.com/blog/shop-reliable-deals-before-nopec-restarts-service/
Shop Reliable Deals Before NOPEC Restarts Service
Get Better Deals Than NOPEC
These deals beat the NOPEC restart rate! Avoid paying a variable rate and shop better and cheaper plans that can save you money now!
NOPEC has announced they will resume service on June 1. As we’ve seen, NOPEC doesn’t exactly have a stellar history of reliable service. However, they have finally released their expected price to compare. At 6.87 cents per kWh, that’s not the best deal you could be getting. Additionally, NOPEC stated that their prices can vary month to month. Why would you sign up with a price that can change on you when you can lock in a low fixed rate plan? If you want to save money, shop these reliable deals before NOPEC restarts service.
Deals Beating The NOPEC Electricity Rate
Firstly, we’re going to look at a plan with an identical contract time. NOPEC has their contracts set for 36 month intervals. A comparable plan is the 36 Month Home Power Plan from Constellation. This plan has a $25 early termination fee, and is priced at 6.99 cents per kWh. Now that rate is higher than NOPEC’s projected rate. The difference is, it won’t change. That means that regardless if summer or winter prices spike higher, your rate will remain the same for three years.
Grab A Cheaper Ohio Electricity Rate
Looking for a bit more flexibility? Check out the Live Brighter 18 from Direct Energy. This plan gives you a year and a half of electricity at a fixed rate. It also doesn’t have an early termination fee. Unlike signing up with NOPEC, you aren’t stuck in the same agreement if rates change.  This plan is priced at 6.79 cents per kWh, which is under NOPEC’s restart rate.
Prices Lower Than NOPEC’s Electricity Rate
Lastly, there are some great short term options to get you through the rest of the year. At just 6.19 cents per kWh, the 9 Month Home Power Plan from Constellation gives you the perfect opportunity to save over the summer. That’s more than .5 cents per kWh lower than NOPEC’s rate. You also get the advantage of being able to skip this summer’s rate increases without having to worry about opting out of the NOPEC contract. There’s a $25 early termination fee, but with a price that low, there aren’t many better rates.
Don’t Let NOPEC Rope You In Again
Use this opportunity to get yourself some time to watch NOPEC. The aggregator can’t automatically enroll your home if you have signed up with another electricity provider. So if you’re not sure about signing back up, try out other companies. Take the opportunity to choose your electricity provider across Ohio without worry. Plus, for more news on NOPEC reopening, you can check out www.ohenergyratings.com
