I get asked a lot, mostly in summer about shaving. Back after my divorce I treated myself to laser hair removal. It’s been the best thing, seeing how I can barely stand and only have use in one hand. However, I never went back for my “touch ups” due to sporadic hair growth and just plain hair growth cycles so I still have to shave once a week or so, if I want. I have “patches” that grows still. (Mainly around my tattoos and my scars). However, the ocd in me will not allow me to just shave those areas, I just shave it all. This, is the result and reason I don’t usually shave unless I absolutely need too. You see, my left wrist is completely fused, I also have 7 screws one 8in plate and 5 pins holding it all together. My left leg is completely numb from my hip to my ankle and tonight it was (not surprisingly) swollen. Now add water, soap and a sharp object (which I’m not supposed to have anyways) and this is what happens. Horrendous amounts of blood, a new scar and a near life death experience. I can not girl anymore. So if y’all see me with strange patches of hair while wearing shorts, dresses or capris. Keep the comments to yourself. Sorry everyone. I missed a couple days of posts for #November and #noshavenovember I persevered last year, but the holiday season has always sent me into a funk. It’s the fact that another year is drawing to an end. At least that’s my reason for the holiday blues. Watching the days go by so quickly doesn’t usually depress me until November. And it’s true this year too. While we’re on that subject, let’s talk about mental health. I know it’s a broad topic, but it’s the time of year many start feeling some blues. I’m no different. For many, the stress of the holidays being added to our already stressful lives came be a bit much. In my case, it’s the fact I’m watching yet another year go so quickly by. Time flies when we’re having fun...but I wish I could stop time for a little while and enjoy the moment. But alas, that isn’t possible and it depresses me every year. But like Joe Dirt said “You gotta keep on keepin on.” And sometimes, all it takes is a quote, a mantra, a prayer to keep going. In some cases, more needs to be done. Over 6 million men are affected by depression annually. Approximately 19.1 million men have an anxiety disorder. About 2.3 million men are affected by bipolar disorder. 3.5 million Americans are diagnosed with schizophrenia and about 90% of those diagnosed are men. Eating disorders...men make up about 10% of patients with anorexia or bulimia and about 35% of those are diagnosed with a binge eating disorder. Men with eating disorders are far less likely to seek professional help. Let’s all take a moment to process this...
