look i know I talk abt pegoryu all the time BUT there's so much to love about Ryuji outside the context of ships. Like, there's plenty of good characters in p5 but Ryuji steals the show, no contest. He's so kind and selfless. He's the first to give joker a chance. He's not even on particularly good terms with Ann and is pissed off at Kamoshida's creepy behavior on her behalf. When they enter the palace and get attacked, he tries telling to joker to run even though Ryuji himself is being attacked by the guards - he wanted joker to leave him there and was okay with putting himself in harm's way to allow joker an escape. He's not moved to take down kamoshida by his own potential expulsion, or his own anger about their history, but is moved by seeing what kamoshida is doing to other students, particularly shiho. After the kamoshida arc, he doesn't say anything about his own trauma or history with kamoshida, he's just happy that things will be better for Ann. He's the first to forgive makoto after she gets kidnapped by kaneshiro and has generally been a thorn in the phantom thieves' side for weeks. In fact he jumps in front of a moving vehicle to get a taxi to follow the people who took her. He fights with mona and gives a half-hearted apology, but all that animosity is out the window when the group finds mona and haru being harassed by haru's fiance. His entire confidant is about him trying to help the track team, which benefits him in absolutely no way, even after they turned on him for standing up to his abuser. even after the track team themselves physically assault him in an early social link rank. he wanted to get a track scholarship for his mom's sake, not his own. He puts himself in danger to get the lifeboat when shido's palace is sinking. he puts himself in danger and takes an attack from possessed cendrillon in maruki's palace. he gets angry when hearing about joker's past, but doesn't actually seem to have much anger in regards to his own - in fact, consistently through the game he gets angry and moved to defend others while not mustering that same righteous sort of anger for his own sake. Everyone else is his priority. he's the only character who has mistakes in the plot of the game that he owns up to and apologizes for - for getting mad and scaring futaba, and for being preccupied by their fame. he's a momma's boy. he's joker's best friend and right hand man, and more than anyone else he opens up to and confides in joker, to the degree that he has moments like that which occur outside of his confidant whereas nobody else really does (he calls joker through the story several times and confides in him about things like his apprehension abt the current events or how he is sorry he got mad and yelled earlier or even just that he's worried about the kamoshida plan.) the world has been so cruel to him and he still finds so much compassion and selflessness within himself. he's similar to his drunk, abusive dad, with a temper and a reputation for outbursts. but he's a twisted, funhouse mirror representation of that. his anger is justified and sparked by seeing others mistreated. his outbursts were just him standing up for himself and his whole team. and for it he got abandoned and shunned. he's a deconstruction of the people who've hurt him; he's similar to them while also standing for the exact opposite of everything they stand for. he's selfless and kind and driven to protect others even at the cost of his own safety, social standing, or well being. he makes mistakes and owns up to them, then tries to be better. he trusts joker so much. he's been hurt and abused and kicked while he was down and he still wants so badly to help others. as cruel as the world has been to him he doesn't let it embitter him or make him cynical and mean.
tldr; your honor, I love him

Pieces Of Media I Consumed Recently
because i have accepted i cannot, for the life of me, do this in an organized fashion lol
CHAINSAW MAN('s anime)
Tumblr media
I read the manga obsessively the moment I heard the premise. I grew up in the era of self-referential, masturbatory, whedon-istic media where no show or comic could just be unapologetically itself without getting weird and "haha isnt it DUMB we're making this?" the whole time. A manga about a guy turning into a chainsaw that is absolutely about a dude who turns into a chainsaw fucking appeals, okay?
Anyways. This is about the anime. The anime almost feels like a film at times- the characters move very.. Realistically. Very on model, which worked in some ways but made it a bit less expressive in others. It didn't have the punk charm of the manga, but otherwise? Steller presentation. I like how the anime further emphasizes that Denji is a kid- giving him more childish mannerisms (such as the infamous scene with himeno) that really hammers home the point of his character- that he's just a manipulated kid who wants some kind of normalcy and, most of all, love.
CHAINSAW MAN('s manga. part 2)
Tumblr media
It makes me feel like the absolute joker watching how well thought out Asa is as a protagonist. Traumatic experiences can strip us of our identities- make us feel like all we've done is survive, and therefore, that's all we can do, so watching Asa fret over being a bore and be unable to connect to others without worrying about how things will crumble down is just a delight. I love her. Denji is also great so far! He's just so tired. This part's art has so much subtle improvement and once again Fujimoto is delivering bangers. Yoshida is never beating the yaoi allegations.
FEAR AND HUNGER: TERMINA
Tumblr media
The fun thing about autism is that it forces you to enjoy things in the most "yeah this is my life now" of ways, which is fine when your interests are something normal you can explain to people like "dungeons and dragons" or "sailor moon" and not Termina, a game that makes you genuinely debate not if you should sever your enemy's leg, but which one.
Termina is crazy. A survival horror rpg where death is punishing, limbs can be lost AND trans women can do necromancy? It's great and it's terrifying. There's literally an entire area that I avoid because it freaks me out so bad so I GENUINELY take the long way everywhere to avoid it every time.
It's one of those games where any enemy can not only kill you, but maim you in ways that fundamentally change how you play the game. Dealing with enemies is a puzzle: how do you approach them? Do you deal with them now so you never have to deal with them again? Do you run around so you can wait until you're stronger? Do you shoot them from afar or save the precious ammo for something even worse?
It's a special kind of satisfying, but definitely not a game for everyone. I'd recommend reading the content warnings, as it's a dark fantasy with dark fantasy themes. It's also a game for adults only, no exceptions. Feel free to message me if you want to know about any content in the game that isn't listed out in the warnings on the store page. I might make a larger blog post about it later.
SHAMELESS
Tumblr media
Ok, at first I really liked it! It's very funny, the characters are very well written, and it's very captivating... But I'm going to be real, the amount of Leering Shots Of Teenage Girls in what I watched of this show is enough to drive me bananas. I don't want to look up the sixteen year old girl's skirt, netflix, I'm ambiguously in my mid twenties. The show's insistence on making me look at karen naked ruined it for me. It didn't even feel like it was saying anything? It just kept happening!!! Anyways, tl;dr, shameless is not for me.
VELMA
Tumblr media
So, listen. I need to admit something: I've been deep in the Western Cartoons Discourse Trenches since I googled "My Little Poney Forums" as a young teenager. I never really participated, but I'm aware of the cycle of Discourse that happens whenever a show Like This comes out- a show with marginalized characters that isn't very good, or at least is perceived as such.
I watched Sacrificial Trash and you should too
What generally happens is an outpour of outrage and criticism that's 10% warranted, 30% nitpicky and 60% literal actual bigotry. You end up with a lot of video essays of Yelling Men With Glasses that makes me, a contrarian hipster, really interested in proving the internet wrong and actually Enjoying The Thing.
After watching all of Velma, my verdict is:
I Enjoyed Watching It But Would Not Recommend It To Most
The show is funny! It's visually incredible! It has a fun plotline! It has a lot of nods to older Scooby Doo cartoons that I, as a Child Born After 1960, Enjoy! And I like basically every main character and most of the side characters...
Except... It has two massive, glaring issues in its writing. Two major themes that not only make the show nearly unrecommendable to most people, but also revolve around the worst character in the show, Velma herself.
To start, this show has a massive, gaping problem with self-hating anti-indian racism.
Every time Velma's ethnicity is brought up, it's made out to be a gag!! It's to make fun of her!! She's called an ugly gorilla constantly!!! She's made fun of for being hairy!!! And it's never addressed!!! It's just a running gag that Velma hates being Indian and so does everyone else. It's very uncomfortable. I was hoping it'd tone down but it doesn't. The show doesn't even seem all that aware that her self hatred about her own culture and her ethnic features is... a bad thing? It's very strange. I know a lot of south asian people who refuse to watch the show or didn't continue past episode one because of this and MAN. I get it.
The show also has a bit of a misogny problem, which is weird because it tries to be feminist at times? With Fred learning to appreciate women for more than their appearances, which was nice, but the amount of times femininity and appearance gets conflated with being dumb and vapid is... a lot. And the show seems half aware that this is bad while also just. keeping on doing it. And Velma is usually the one being misogynistic throughout the show, and while they kinda try to develop her past it, it doesn't feel like the show takes it seriously as a theme.
Anyways. If you watched and went "man, this show was very well produced and beautifully executed in its visuals!" like a huge nerd, please know that Amy Winfrey, creator of Making Fiends and a director for both Tuca And Bertie AND Bojack Horseman was the supervising producer and I highly advise checking her out.
PS: Glenn Howerton should do more voice work

NYPD cop Michael Valva taunted son for being cold before died: lawyers
Tumblr media
A heartless NYPD cop and his wicked fiancée starved and tortured his autistic 8-year-old son, even mocking the child as he collapsed from the hypothermia that would claim his young life, officials said Friday as the Long Island couple was charged in the boy’s murder.
Michael Valva, 40, a 15-year officer assigned to the transit bureau, and fiancée Angela Pollina, 42, tried to make it look like they were as idyllic as the Brady Bunch, living with Valva’s three sons and Pollina’s three girls — each from previous relationships — at the couple’s home in Center Moriches, but their sitcom veneer hid a sinister secret, a former nanny said.
“It’s sad. They wanted to give the impression they were the ‘Brady Bunch’ family when it was more like a home crashing,” Amanda Wildman, who babysat the family from 2017 to 2018, told The Post.
“There was always screaming. The boys were constantly being yelled at. There never was a day where somebody wasn’t screaming and the boys would just sit there quietly and take it.”
On Friday, Valva and Pollina were arrested and charged with second-degree murder for the Jan. 17 death of Valva’s son Thomas, who died of hypothermia after being exiled to a “freezing” unfinished garage at the couple’s home on Bittersweet Lane the night before — when temperatures outside plummeted to a bone-chilling 19 degrees, Suffolk County Police Commissioner Geraldine Hart told reporters.
New York state’s Office of Children and Family Services recorded...
“We believe certainly that Thomas was kept in the garage overnight preceding his death,” the commissioner said.
Prosecutors revealed at Valva’s arraignment that he and Pollina even taunted Thomas for being cold on the morning he died — after keeping him in the freezing garage all night.
Thomas was “face-planting” on the floor because he was hypothermic, Assistant District Attorney Laura Newcombe said, citing audio recordings taken from an extensive home-security system in the house.
In the recording, a child can be heard asking why Thomas cannot walk.
“Because he’s hypothermic,” Pollina replied, according to Newcombe. “When you wash with cold water and it’s freezing out you become hypothermic.”
Later, Pollina put the same question to Valva.
“Do you know why he’s falling?” Pollina asked Valva about Thomas, Newcombe said, citing recordings.
“Because he’s cold. Boo f–king hoo,” Valva callously responded, according to the prosecutor.
When Pollina apparently walked into the garage and asked Valva what he was doing, Valva said: “I’m f–king suffocating him that’s what I’m doing,” prompting Pollina to say, “Take your hands off his mouth. There are people everywhere,” according to Newcombe.
Authorities responded to the home at 9:40 a.m. that day, after Valva reported that his son fell in the driveway while waiting for the school bus an hour earlier.
Valva, who was immediately suspended without pay and stripped of his guns, told cops his son lost consciousness after the fall, according to Hart.
“When officers arrived, Michael Valva was performing CPR on his son in the basement,” she said.
Medics rushed the boy to Long Island Community Hospital and when he arrived there, his body temperature was just 76 degrees, according to Hart. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Valva allegedly put the boy’s body in a warm bath in order to raise his body temperature before calling cops, a police source told The Post.
An investigation “revealed inconsistencies in timing and nature of the child’s injuries as reported by the father,” said Hart, who noted that police determined that the boy was never in the driveway that morning.
Thomas suffered head and facial injuries “that were not consistent with” Valva’s account, and the medical examiner ruled the boy’s death a homicide “with a major contributing factor of hypothermia,” Hart said.
The Suffolk County source told The Post that Valva got angry with Thomas and beat the boy the day before his death.
As punishment, Thomas was ordered to stay in the garage, the source said.
Hart noted that the investigators reviewed audio and video surveillance of Valva and Pollina from outside and inside the home and the recordings “show the pair was closely monitoring the activities and conversations of their six children.”
Prosecutors said that nearly every room in the home was equipped with surveillance cameras that were labeled according to the child’s name and room.
The camera located in the garage was eerily labeled “kids room.”
The devastated mother of the innocent 8-year-old whose veteran NYPD...
Investigators believe Thomas, as well as his 10-year-old brother, Anthony, were subjected to punishment, including “food deprivation and exposure to extremely frigid temperatures,” Hart said, adding, “We are still investigating the extent of the abuse and if it extended to all of the children.”
Home surveillance footage captured Thomas and Anthony sleeping on the concrete floor of the garage and “shivering” two nights before Thomas died, prosecutors said.
“They are on cold concrete. There are no pillows, no blankets, no mattress,” Newcombe said.
Hart noted that authorities did a welfare check at the residence in May 2019, but the family was not home at the time.
“This case has hit our department hard, even our most seasoned detectives,” the commissioner said.
Thomas and his 6- and 10-year-old brothers lived at the home along with Pollina’s three daughters — 11-year-old twins and a 6-year-old girl, authorities said.
Child Protective Services removed all five surviving children from the home after the parents were arrested, Hart said.
Thomas’ brothers were with their biological mother, Justyna Zubko-Valva, 36, on Friday.
Zubko-Valva, who says she “unlawfully” lost custody of her three children in 2017, claimed that her kids were abused at the hands of their dad for years and ignored by those with the authority to help.
“There are so many people responsible for this tragedy,” Zubko-Valva, who is divorced from Valva, told The Post.
“The institutions that are supposed to protect the children protect the abusers,” said Zubko-Valva who claimed that she reported to law enforcement and child protective agencies and judges about the alleged abuse of her three young boys.
Thomas had autism and his 10-year-old brother, Anthony, has a learning disability, the mom said.
Zubko-Valva said she warned judges over the years during various court proceedings that, “My children are gonna die from the sadistic and abusive care of Michael Valva and Angela Pollina.”
The helpless mother even detailed the alleged abuse on a Twitter account she created in January 2018 under the name “StandAgainstChildAbuse.”
Veteran officer Michael Valva, 40, had three boys from a...
In one tweet, she posted what appears to be a 2018 report from the East Moriches School District detailing how Thomas and Anthony, were being neglected by Valva and Pollina.
“Biggest concern is that Mr. Valva and his fiancée Angela do not understand the depth of Anthony and Thomas’s disabilities,” reads the letter, written by a school psychologist.
The letter went on to say that “both Anthony and Thomas come into school hungry and frequently say they did not eat breakfast because they did not ask for breakfast or got in trouble.”
Another apparent school letter posted to the account states: “Anthony and Thomas have stated that they were not allowed to eat breakfast because they did not use their manners, say ‘good morning’ to Angela or were doing nothing. They have come in crying because of this.”
The school district refused to comment on the documents.
Valva and Pollina pleaded not guilty at their arraignments and were held without bail.

Holly Robinson Peete, Holly Marie Combs attack Malkin, demean moms
http://twitter.com/#!/hollyrpeete/status/260735938894905345
Sigh. Another Hollywood lib needs schooling and Michelle Malkin is, as always, up to the task. Holly Robinson Peete had her panties in a twist today over Twitchy founder Michelle Malkin’s epic schooling of lady parts obsessed Sophia Bush. Ms. Robinson Peete has had a bee in her Hollyweird bonnet for days, though. It started when Michelle Malkin was exposing the idiocy of the Left’s attempted Tagg Romney narrative, while also calling out the vulgar and sexist Eva Longoria.
@michellemalkin lol did you just call me a “squirrel”? if so that is a first! did u ™ ‘Hollywood femmes’? u r on the attack today momma! xo
— Holly Robinson Peete (@hollyrpeete) October 18, 2012
.@hollyrpeete Calm down, momma. “Squirrel” is a joke reference to Dug the doug from the movie “Up.” It’s shorthand for “Distraction!”
— Michelle Malkin (@michellemalkin) October 18, 2012
.@hollyrpeete Here is my column on the Democratic politics of SQUIRREL ==> is.gd/1QwAkT
— Michelle Malkin (@michellemalkin) October 18, 2012
.@hollyrpeete So you and @evalongoria talking about Tagg Romney is total SQUIRREL because it’s OBVIOUS he was joking…
— Michelle Malkin (@michellemalkin) October 18, 2012
@michellemalkin right let that have been Flotus or girls make that “joke” your caps lock button would explode 😉 disrespect=disrespect
— Holly Robinson Peete (@hollyrpeete) October 18, 2012
.@hollyrpeete Nah. It’s nothing compared to Obama 08: “If they bring a knife to the fight, we bring a gun.” Which I’m sure upset you, too.
— Michelle Malkin (@michellemalkin) October 18, 2012
.@hollyrpeete …but you and your Hollywood femme ™friends say little to nothing about progressive climate of hate is.gd/ZT9oGh
— Michelle Malkin (@michellemalkin) October 18, 2012
That’s right. And these alleged #womensupportingwomen ignore the vicious bile spewed at conservative women, always. Holly Marie Combs gets in on the act, too.
@hollyrpeete @michellemalkin Dude she obsessively compulsively repetitively quotes a cartoon. Immaturity abounds.
— Holly Marie Combs (@H_Combs) October 18, 2012
@hollyrpeete @michellemalkin This welfare baby from teenaged parents will gladly pay taxes if it helps kids like me become grown ups like me
— Holly Marie Combs (@H_Combs) October 18, 2012
Clear explanations are still hard, apparently. Because Ms. Robinson Peete then went on to attack Michelle Malkin as a mother a couple of days later.
@deialiberately @michellemalkin agree! doesn’t square with being a good parent
— Holly Robinson Peete (@hollyrpeete) October 20, 2012
FALSE #BSalert @michellemalkin is working overtime. “@gophotline: Looks like hateful far-left views of @hollyrpeete r finally being exposed”
— Holly Robinson Peete (@hollyrpeete) October 20, 2012
@nataliemac84 @gophotline @michellemalkin nat not worth it-that’s ALL they do ALL day #mindblowing
— Holly Robinson Peete (@hollyrpeete) October 20, 2012
@shiobhankelly a popular mom blogger who spends her entire day bashing calling names baiting distorting provoking
— Holly Robinson Peete (@hollyrpeete) October 20, 2012
From “just a blogger” to “just a mom blogger.” Silly real world moms! You aren’t allowed to use your minds nor stand up for your beliefs. In fact, you can’t even have beliefs. Just focus on contemplating your uteri and stuff.
@moniselseward that IS her job! Lol
— Holly Robinson Peete (@hollyrpeete) October 20, 2012
@nat0127 @michellemalkin I don’t mind her putting forth her views but what kind of MOM spends ALL day baiting attacking taunting twisting?
— Holly Robinson Peete (@hollyrpeete) October 20, 2012
How dare she? Is that how the oh-so-loving and tolerant Left empower women? By attacking them as mothers, thus also attacking their children? Robinson Peete, and Combs, continue “empowering” women by diminishing others today.
@nataliemac84 @michellemalkin @evalongoria @whoopigoldberg and now sophia bush. Her JOB is to attack and tear down 24/7 #motheroftheyear
— Holly Robinson Peete (@hollyrpeete) October 23, 2012
@musicislove16 bc that’s her schtick
— Holly Robinson Peete (@hollyrpeete) October 23, 2012
.@michellemalkin do you ever actually try to meet face2face with those you stalk? Or is it more fun just attacking from your secret lab?
— Holly Robinson Peete (@hollyrpeete) October 23, 2012
.@michellemalkin there u go shaping my narrative again w/o knowing me. not “vigorous disagreement” but nasty assaults stoked by YOU/your RTs
— Holly Robinson Peete (@hollyrpeete) October 23, 2012
.@michellemalkin I guess I got picked to be today’s eva kerry or sophia. Lucky me! Just when I cleaned all the c words out of my timeline…
— Holly Robinson Peete (@hollyrpeete) October 23, 2012
@joycee68 @michellemalkin she is trying to bait and twist. #herjob
— Holly Robinson Peete (@hollyrpeete) October 23, 2012
@traceyanita3 @michellemalkin #ladysmarts not malkins style
— Holly Robinson Peete (@hollyrpeete) October 23, 2012
@michellemalkin on a plane to chicago for an autism appearance so I am going to focus on that. Happy baiting, inciting and twisting! xo
— Holly Robinson Peete (@hollyrpeete) October 23, 2012
.@hollyrpeete I got bored w/you an hour ago. #moveon
— Michelle Malkin (@michellemalkin) October 23, 2012
@michellemalkin oh u attack and now u r bored? And I should #moveon?Who’s the next victim? You are a piece of work. #moty
— Holly Robinson Peete (@hollyrpeete) October 23, 2012
And some irony.
People make a living passive aggressively tearing others down all day from their kitchens. Sad waste of platform for something positive…
— Holly Robinson Peete (@hollyrpeete) October 23, 2012
Err. You mean like that passive-aggressive tweet? And, again she demeans mothers. Know your places, conservative women: The kitchen. And it must not be used for anything but making a liberal man a sammich. He knows best. You just sit in the kitchen and look purty.
Holly Marie Combs whips out the bully card.
.@michellemalkin The way you speak to people makes you a hater not your political views. You’re a playground bully with too much free time.
— Holly Marie Combs (@H_Combs) October 23, 2012
@hockeyguy @michellemalkin Attacking people who have never uttered her name is not fighting back it is harassment. And a cry for attention.
— Holly Marie Combs (@H_Combs) October 23, 2012
Hilarious. No, it’s fighting back. Some Hollywood libs just need schooling and you two are among that class. “Just a mom bloggers” are just the ones to serve you up a nice plate of detention.
Hollywood Twitter rules: When conservatives push back, call them “bullies.” When they beat you with FACTS, accuse them of having a “crush”.
— Michelle Malkin (@michellemalkin) October 23, 2012
And the old sexist strawman: When conservative women respond to a Hollywood femme’s nonsense, accuse them of being “jealous.” #lame
— Michelle Malkin (@michellemalkin) October 23, 2012
These Hollywood wimmin who claim to speak for wimmin have no clue about IPAB or USPSTF & consequences for women==> is.gd/CqbCWk
— Michelle Malkin (@michellemalkin) October 23, 2012
Not one Hollywood Starlet for Obama has responded to FACTS about Obamacare rationing, drop in cancer screenings ==> is.gd/CqbCWk
— Michelle Malkin (@michellemalkin) October 23, 2012
Hi Hollywood starlets: Stop lying to women about Planned Parenthood & cancer screenings. @kerrywashington @evalongoria is.gd/EOKBg7
— Michelle Malkin (@michellemalkin) October 19, 2012
Dear libs rushing to protect Obama’s Hollywood Girls Club from us meanie right-wing gals: We’re not “obsessed.” We’re focused. #ladysmarts
— Michelle Malkin (@michellemalkin) October 18, 2012
If you think it’s a “waste of time” to expose lies & hatred Hollywood femmes are spreading, you live in a bubble of naivete & self-delusion.
— Michelle Malkin (@michellemalkin) October 18, 2012

And a bad mother, natch. For the horrible crime of having your own thoughts and beliefs and for standing up for them. Teaching daughters to be independent and strong, and to use their lady smarts, not lady parts.  But women who dismiss mothers and attack them? #WomenSupportingWomen. Because, vagina. Of course, only if it’s the right kind of vagina.
No Hollywood lib could w/stand toxic H8 that Left has 4 minority female conservatives: “Hope you get shot Uncle Tom”==> is.gd/ci3XkW

The head of the world’s largest scientific membership organisation has given his backing for a planned protest by researchers in Washington DC.
Rush Holt, of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), said that people were “standing up for science”.
His remarks reflect growing concern among researchers that science is disregarded by President Trump
Scientists across the US plan to march in DC on 22 April.
“I’ve never seen anything like it in my entire career,” the former Democratic congressman told BBC News.

“To see young scientists, older scientists, the general public speaking up for the idea of science. We are going to work with our members and affiliated organisations to see that this march for science is a success.”
Mr Holt made his comments at the AAAS annual meting in Boston as President Trump appointed a fierce critic of the Environmental Protection Agency as its head. Scott Pruitt has spent years fighting the role and reach of the EPA.
Campaigners accuse him of being too close to the oil and gas industry, and allege that he is “lukewarm” on the threat posed by climate change.
Rush Holt says that the concern among US scientists has gone well beyond the usual uncertainty that comes with a change in the Oval Office.
“It is partly because of the previous statements of the president and his appointees on issues such as climate change and vaccination for children which have not been in keeping with good science,” the AAAS CEO told BBC News.
“But mostly by what we have seen since the new administration has come in, [which] is silence about science. Very few appointments to positions are filled by people who understand science, very few comments about the importance of science; there is no science advisor in the White House now and we don’t know whether there will be one.
“And so the silence is beginning to sound ominous.”

There has been unease among researchers ever since Mr Trump was elected in November. More than 600 professors from one of the country’s leading research Universities, MIT, signed an open letter before his inauguration expressing their concerns.
It stated: “The president-elect has appointed individuals to positions of power who have endorsed racism, misogyny and religious bigotry, and denied the widespread scientific consensus on climate change… Science is not a special interest; it is not optional. Science is a foundational ingredient in how we as a society analyse, understand, and solve the most difficult challenges that we face.”
Among the signatories’ worries are the president’s statement that climate change is a hoax, his alleged muzzling of environmental agencies and his apparent interest in setting up a commission to investigate whether vaccines cause autism.
Prof Nancy Kanwisher, who is a brain researcher at MIT, explained why she helped organise the petition.
“This is the most frightening and serious threat we have faced in my lifetime,” she told BBC News.
“The political tactic of denying scientific fact is a huge threat to the health of our people. It is also a huge threat to our planet from climate deniers.”

Sarah Schwettmann, who is a PhD student working with Prof Kanwisher, said that many of her fellow students felt just as strongly as their professors.
“Science has unfortunately taken a political beating,” she argued. “It has been drawn into a realm where we have to stand up for the necessity of science in informing public policy and potentially averting the global crisis we see in environmental change and climate change.”
Ms Schwettmann has designed black-hooded sweatshirts for protestors. On the back is “MIT” in the shape of a clenched fist. On the sleeves is the electrical symbol of resistance.
But President Trumps supporters, such as Myron Ebell, who is a director at a libertarian advocacy group, Competitive Enterprise Institute, accuses the academics of being an out-of-touch elite – and says they should listen to the electorate.
“The people in the heartland of America who make stuff, dig up stuff and grow stuff for a living voted for Donald J Trump as president,” he told BBC News.
“The people living in New York City and working in the university towns across America did not vote for him. They lost the election and they are going to have to get used to it.”
There is little sign of that happening. All across the country many scientists are preparing for their march for science on Washington. They are in a battle to win the hearts and minds of their countrymen.
