Does this art challenge have to be completed during September 2024 and in chronological order?

No and no; Can be done any month, of any year (hence the “plus” after 2023 title), in any order you wish. You can even just do one of the prompts that catches your eye and call it at that; Despite me creating this prompt list, it’s your choice whether to add those rules in for yourself or not. I know all too well how both fun yet stressful art prompt lists can be. TLDR- you can make it a full-on daily challenge but that's your own call.

Can I circulate this Prompt list beyond tumblr?

Please do! I made this specifically to get more peeps thinking of SpecEvo Flora concepts and I know tumblr is only one bubble of many others out there with SpecEvo artists lurking about. Credits are optional, since the prompt list image comes with my tumblr url anyhow.

While I don’t expect this prompt list to reach far I’d rather play it safe and say no, please don’t to avoid a potential albeit unlikely barrage of @ notifs. Huh... Y'know what, I actually don't mind that partly because it's in a compilation of sorts, partly because they DO credit me and aren't claiming it as their own, and partly because they're responding to comments asking about me by pointing them in my direction.

I do wish they'd asked first and I of course wish they'd spelled my url properly lol but tbh I'm not pressed enough about this to report it or ask people to report it. I don't even have tiktok lol But thanks for looking out, I really appreciate the heads up!

Hi, I really enjoyed reading your Loki series on Ao3, and I wanted to ask if you allow borowing some of your worldbuilding? I'm not sure whether or not I will ever write a fanfic, but I thought about creating an acount where I could post the things I want to include in my fanfic (wich are often based on arleady existing works)

AO3 has a feature for exactly this situation! When you create a new work you can tag it as inspired by another story. Forgive my shaky hand highlighting in green, it's not a great health day for me:

I use the dark mode skin for AO3, so the colors will be different, but this is the relevant part. You check the box for "This work is a remix, translation, or was inspired by another work." Then the group of text boxes you see in the above image will appear. For a translation there is a special second checkbox, but for everything else you can drop the URL of the work that you are inspired by or borrowing heavily from. AO3 will fill in the author and title if it is an AO3 link on it's own, but you can link a story from any database as your inspiration with this part of the story creation tool. So if you read something on one of the older forums like Ink Stained Fingers you can give the author whose premise/first chapter challenge you are using a shout out. (Yes, some of those fic hosting sites from 1999 are still operating!)

Want to use my version of Jotunheim? Sad that my story stalled and want to finish it? Want to write a side story in the universe I crafted? Want to translate my story into another language? All perfectly fine with me, just drop in the link back to whatever story inspired you. As a bonus, readers of the inspiring work will be able to find yours easier.

Poorly Spun Threads is a story of deleted scenes I posted in this way. I said that it was inspired by the first three parts of Another Turn of the Wheel. In the above image you see the link at the end of part 1, A Timely Warning, that readers can use to go read Poorly Spun Threads. If you say your work was inspired by A Timely Warning, Another link will appear here to direct readers to you.

Translations are handled just a little differently, with the links to translations appearing at the beginning rather than the end of the story. Makes sense, since a remix or inspirational story is good to find at the end, but you would want to know if a story is available in a language you prefer right away.

end of the year art meme... i don't think i've posted one to tumblr in a few years but this is the place for more long form posts so i'm doing some retrospection. it's rambly and kind of corny engage at your own discretion LMAO

please don't look at my cringe teenage interests too hard (or the fact that i apparently had a misspelled url in 2013 lmaoo) but it's crazy to think about how i've been doing this for 10 years now... the past few years in particular have been uniquely challenging for me. without getting into it, my personal situation was basically constantly unstable. i spent most of my energy just trying to get by, and unsurprisingly my relationship with art suffered as a result of the perpetual lack of spoons i had. there was actually a point in late 2019/ early 2020 where i thought about giving up on art entirely. i was art blocked out of my mind and i hated everything i was drawing, picking it apart to pieces before i could let myself just enjoy making anything. the turning point for me was probably some time around april 2020 when i was finally starting to somewhat emerge from some of the issues in my personal life. funny how being stressed might make it hard to create, huh.

but to be honest, it's not even that things got uh, much better. not for a while, anyway. it wasn't until this year actually that things are... normal-ish (knocking on wood that it stays this way). but i'd still point to that time in 2020 being a turning point for my art at least, because that's when i finally started to draw to make things i wanted to make. especially when i was younger i was kind of obsessed with needing to get better as fast as possible. i thought a lot about trying to make my art look "better" rather than like.. i don't know... just making it? as cheesy as it is, this is something i owe ffxiv so much for because like, just genuinely, i got so obsessed with my wols and the characters i liked in that game that i wanted to draw them all the time. it's the closest i'd felt to being a kid doodling pokemon in my math notebook.

i'd be lying if i said my relationship with my art is perfect, or even *good*, right now. i still have a tendency to critique it much more harshly than is probably good for me, especially now that it's my only source of income. there's a lot of technical skill i lack. i'm a great combo of self-taught and lazy so i only know what i've taught myself and i'm allergic to actually doing studies lol. in the moment it was really easy for me to get in my own head about the quality of my work, especially now that my disposable income basically depended entirely on what i made from commissions. but i realized i can say i really had a lot of fun with my art this year. so, i'm pretty fucking proud of what i made (also to be fair! i think it all slaps! let me toot my own horn, its christmas) i don't really have anything concrete to say to close this off, this is just me rambling to myself. i don't really do this kind of thing often, but one of my regrets is that i didn't journal much in the past so i don't have many concrete records of things to look back on.

if i'm looking at this in a few years, or to whoever might be reading this right now, i suppose if anything i want to say it doesn't really matter how good or bad what you make is, as long as you had fun. i know its saccharine, and you'll just have to forgive me for the sentiment. but i suppose i think sometimes about how the word amateur technically means doing something for the love of it. and that's enough, really. i love my weird little guys (gender neutral), why else would i spend hours drawing them. love is how you survive the horrors, and that can be love for a dead ghost man from an mmorpg.

anyway a nap is calling for me now, i fought back against stew induced food coma for this. peace and love on planet earth.
