Thoughts that naturally cross your mind when a stranger buys you a macaroon.

Today at around 4pm, my roommate and I were lazily lounging around the living room when we decided that we should get up off our asses and go get some macaroons from the nearby food truck Sugar Philly. It would be some nice exercise, a breath of fresh air. The walk there lasted all of about 2 minutes and then it was macaroon time! Macaroons are pretty much my favorite desserts in the world because of the crunchy, taffy-like consistency of its shells. I don’t give a fuck about the filling, you could squeeze a dot of pure lard in between those shells and I could care less. I would still devour it in a disgustingly inhuman fashion. So, while we were waiting in line for these macaroons, a man about in his forties is standing in front of us finishing his order. He turns around and we get to chatting, just small talk really. He told us that his brother and he drive miles to get to this truck just for the delicious macaroons. He told us that the milk and honey was his favorite flavor and usually he is really into healthy foods but just can’t curb his craving for these specific sweets. Then, he very generously told me he would buy me a milk and honey macaroon because I had never tasted one before. He insisted, I “reluctantly” accepted. And then I had this succession of thoughts wander through my brain:

1. YESSSSS, FUCK YA. I’m getting a free macaroon. Today is great!

2. Oof, should I have challenged him one more time to buying me a macaroon so that I seem more polite?

3. LOL he didn’t offer to buy my roommate a macaroon. 

4. Why didn’t he offer to buy her a macaroon?

5. Oh no.

6. Is this like one of those things where a guy is luring you in by being nice/charming to you/offering you free food and then proceeds to do something creepy/offensive like tell you he saw you from “10 miles away” but “had to come over to say hello” to the “most beautiful oriental woman” he’s ever seen?

7. Okay, it’s fine. If he asks me for my number or anything I’ll give him a fake. 

8. Wow, am I just being incredibly narcissistic and thinking that I’m being picked up right now when in reality he’s just a nice man who wants to share his joy of macaroons to the rest of the world?

9. He really does have kind eyes. Also, he did tell us he has kids. A man with kids is less likely to be a serial killer right?

10. Whatever, I’ve watched tons of those “I survived” shows and YouTube videos. Even if I’m captured, I know what to do.

11. What is taking so long for my macaroon? JEEZ.

Finally, my macaroon arrived. The man took his order, said farewell, and walked away telling us to enjoy our evening. He really was just a kind soul and then I felt super guilty for thinking all those things about him. But, then I think about the countless other times where I’ve been in situations similar to this. These same thoughts have passed through my mind and what do you know, the guy turned out to be a creep! But, in a sea of creeps, there are some genuinely kind guys who just want to buy a gal a macaroon without strings attached.
