I'm putting my bet in now that Mozilla will abandon Manifest V2 support in two years under the guise of focusing development resources. They did this with XUL/NPAPI after Chrome became the dominant browser, they'll do it again with Mv2 and content blockers.

It's very obvious too given their recent focus on built-in tracker and ad block functions that they generally can compromise on to make their overlords happy. Eventually you'll hear Mozilla talking about how it's silly to have to support two different standards for "legacy extensions" when the built in functions are good enough. For now it's excellent PR to try to shave user share from Google but after the first year only turbo nerds will give a shit about it and then Mozilla will pull their usual scummery like they always do.

ChickenPaint（チキペ）と筆圧とWindows7と私。

ChickenPaintには筆圧機能があるのですが、「Windows7だとOSネイティブのサポートがないから筆圧は効かないYo！」と開発者さんのGitHubにあり諦めていました。ところがたまたまK-Meleonという32bit版のブラウザで別口の再現テスト（カーソルを引きずり続ける）をしていたところ、なんともはや筆圧が効きます。はてなを脳に詰め込み、再度GitHubを訪ねると「NPAPIが使えるブラウザと対応するWacomのタブレットを使っているならWeb Tablet FB Pluginというのがあるからそっちを使えばええんやで（要約）」との説明がトップページにありました。これはアレ、いつものポンコツです。

プログラムフォルダを見ると、32bit版と合わせて64bit版のWeb Tablet FB Pluginも存在していました。もし64bit版のブラウザでも使えるのなら、しぃペインターで使っているWaterfox Classicでも利用ができるため、ブラウザを切り替える必要がなくなりとても助かります。

ただ、今まで64bit版のプラグインがインストールされていたにもかかわらず、Waterfox Classicでは筆圧が効きませんでした。about:pluginsを見ても読み込まれていないようです。ChickenPaintが対応していないのか、ブラウザが対応していないのか、はたまたその他の原因なのかの原因を切り分けるため、一度プラグインのアンインストールと再インストールを試してみることにしました。

結果――それだけで筆圧が効くようになりました。(ﾟ_｡)長く使っている間に何かの競合があったのかもしれませんが真相は闇の中です。よかったとなんでやねんが脳内でワルツを踊る。

同じように迷っている方がいれば、何かの参考になるかもしれないと思ったのですが、よくよく考えるとサポートの切れたWindows7を使っている方はごく少数と思われるので、結論実験が成功した喜びとChickenPaintの簡単な感想をアピールするだけの間抜けな記事になりました。ヽ(ﾟ_｡)ﾉ笑

試した方法

Web Tablet FB Pluginのアンインストールをします。（32/64bit両方）通常のアンインストールでは細かなレジストリまでは削除されないようなので、アンインストール支援ソフトで実行。

使用しているタブレットドライバのファイル（WacomTablet_6.3.15-3.exe）をアーカイバで解凍。

解凍ファイルからTabletPluginsフォルダにあるfbWTPInstall_x64.exeとfbWTPInstall_x86.exeを再インストール。

NPAPIの使えるブラウザを開き、必要な場合はサイト訪問後、プラグインを許可（Waterfox Classicならアドレスバー左端の鍵マーク→「＞」ボタン→詳細を表示→サイト別設定→WacomTabletPluginを許可にチェック）してChickenPaintを開いてみます。ツールオプションの●が有効、○で無効。クリックで切り替えができます。筆圧が効いていれば成功。

以前はWacomのサイトからプラグインのみをダウンロードできたようなのですがバージョンが古い（2.1.0.4／最新は2.1.0.7？）ため、もしプラグインが付属していないWacomタブレットで試される場合は、ドライバーの過去バージョン（プラグインが付属しているのは6.3.24までのようです）からTabletPluginsフォルダを抜き出した方がいいかもしれません。

はじめてChickenPaintにきちんと向き合ってみたのですが、しぃペインターで好きだった鉛筆スケッチのような線も簡単に再現できて嬉しくなりました。筆圧が利く分服の皺等の影の部分で鉛筆感がより増してくれる気もします。

テキストツールが見あたらないので、小さい文字を多用する漫画は難しそうですが、ある程度なら手書きでなんとかなるのかもしれません。ただその場合、文字の練習が必要になりそうな予感がとてもします。(ﾟ_｡)

ずっと補正のないツールで描いていたので、ガタガタじゃない線だと自分の絵じゃないような気がしてきます。笑

レイヤーマスクがどういうものかもようやく知ることができました。元の絵を弄らず変更を加えられるのが不思議で楽しいです。これでまた少し、いつか高機能ソフトへ立ち向かうための防御力が上がった気がします。(=ﾟωﾟ)ﾉ（よわい）

レイヤーが一枚のみの場合だと、投稿時や保存時にchiファイルが生成されないようです。chiファイルが単にサーバーに保存した複数の画像（各レイヤー）を呼び出すだけのファイルなら全く問題はないのですが、しぃペインターのspchのように劣化せず保存ができるタイプの場合は、レイヤーが一枚でも自動で生成してくれたらうっかりを気にせず続きから描く予定の際にとても助かるなと思いました。

自環境で出た不具合

下記で解決：Waterfox Classic 2021.10／PaleMoon 29 未解決：Waterfox G4 4.0.2.1／Firefox 94

ブラシサイズを増やしたりカラーピッカーで色を選択しようとすると、クリックが効かなくなりカーソルを引きずり続けて決定ができなくなる。 about:config　→　dom.w3c_pointer_events.enabledをfalse

My company’s colleagues need IE to visit outdated banking sites, comes with many problems in Internet Explorer, and Microsoft decided to permanently remove IE browser (Windows 10/11) on February 14, 2023. Edge comes with IE mode, but Edge cann’t change IE mode automaticlly and has a 30 days limit for cutom rules.

Recently I tried a variety of dual-core browser like 360, Sogou and QQ browser. To be honest I don’t trust these softwares from Chinese tech giant, after installing them, I decided to search for the IE extension that was once available in Chrome and FireFox. Now Chrome and FireFox extensions are also not good choices, an additional executable file is required after installation, and we need to pay for advanced features.

The following is a discription from IE Tab official website. Did IE Tab always require this extra program?

No. Chrome used to support a technology called NPAPI (the Netscape Plugin API) which allowed extensions to access local computer resources. IE Tab used to use that functionality to access the Internet Explorer rendering engine. But Chrome removed NPAPI support, so we were forced to implement a new solution, and that solution requires a separate helper executable. From a technical standpoint, the only real change is that our code moved from an NPAPI .DLL file to a helper .EXE file.

I happened to search for Fire IE, an alternative to IE Tab, a plugin that works very well. This plugin works with older versions of FireFox up to 46.0, and there is a custom Firefox-based browser Pale Moon that still works with older plugins.

Have you ever heard of the Floorp browser? It's a Firefox fork made by Japanese developers and it seems to have some favorability among people who like Firefox derivatives

I'm reading that it benchmarks a little better than vanilla Firefox does, but other than that the only thing that seems interesting is the dual-panel feature and tab-trees which I remember seeing as extensions ages ago.

Don't get me wrong that is very nice to see out of the box, especially now that the old XUL/NPAPI extensions are all dead anyways. One thing however that sticks out is their insistence on this middle-approach to trackers ("malicious only"), which isn't surprising given they are JP devs and the culture over there is different. Of course this is also the general stance of Mozilla too since they rely on dick-sucking Google for revenue so I suppose it isn't a big deal.

Waterfox still seems to be best for absolute privacy and control, though my experience has been less than stellar the last few months. A lot of sites are broken for me now, and some things don't perform well which I've posted about previously. (I use the same setup in both WF and FF to eliminate extensions being the issue.) Firefox itself seems the best overall if you don't mind the horrors and want everything to work without question (mostly, still have Edge for a very small set of sites). It is nice to see a new entry into Firefox forks though, maybe Floorp will actually be worth using. I'll try to remember to test drive it sometime soon.
