4/30 - National Poetry Month #npm18
I wish you calmness in spring, I wish you warmth in summer, I wish you coolness in autumn, And I wish you rest in winter.
I wish you a placid mind, I wish you enthralled passion, I wish you a shared love, And I wish you a serene passing.

every day do something / that won’t compute...
This morning, I was reading Eugene Peterson’s Practice Resurrection, and wandered down a rabbit trail to Wendell Berry.
So, friends, every day do something that won't compute. Love the Lord. Love the world. Work for nothing. Take all that you have and be poor. Love someone who does not deserve it. Denounce the government and embrace the flag. Hope to live in that free republic for which it stands. Give your approval to all you cannot understand. Praise ignorance, for what man has not encountered he has not destroyed. Ask the questions that have no answers. Invest in the millenium. Plant sequoias. Say that your main crop is the forest that you did not plant, that you will not live to harvest.
 -- Wendell Berry
Take a minute to read all of “Manifesto: The Mad Farmer Liberation Front”. (If for no other reason because it has an epic title.)
PS: It’s National Poetry Month! I won't promise to post something every day, because let’s be real... that never works out. But I do have some ideas I’m exploring about poetry and the work it does in us, so I thought it would be fun to explore some of those ideas out loud here, as well as share some poems that have done my soul good over the years.

4/29 - National Poetry Month #npm18
A final mishmash of American sentences:
Riding high, the rusted hull waits for cargo and the eyeless bridge is dark and still.
Old stained glass pane: Broken petals frame a cracked face whose fractures leak light.
Receipts and pennies found in discarded coats; time capsules for nobody.
Dancing, the road pounder breaks asphalt to rubble to a rumba beat.
The soft down in the small hollow of the back draws a lingering touch.
Fireworks blossom in lowering clouds; "Tinkerbells!" cries the smallest child.
A raucous crow calls above bleached birch bones littering the gravel path.
I am not a robot yet there is a metallic taste in my mouth.
