[Minecraft winter drop spoilers but it’s just from the Minecraft socials]


So obviously Minecraft has just come out with some new blocks that are going into testing on bedrock for the winter drop. And like, man I’m SO excited yall should have hopped on sooner.
This test implements the eye blossoms, which bloom as eyes only at night, as well as resin blocks from the trees. Once again, I cannot keep emphasizing just how much each of these little details makes it seem like the pale garden is going for the route of something truly *alive*.
Obviously, I don't mean alive in the sense of a general ecosystem, because of course it is, but something so ancient, and massive like the aspen Pando, and almost sort of aware. It is silent in the day, it notices the players presence, the lack of mobs makes the land safe, if not a bit tense. It needs to protect itself at night, so its puppets, the *limb* of the garden, stand in the dark ready to defend. Now, the eye blossoms, telling by the name could become part of the gardens sensory system, considering just how dark the land becomes each night. How else would the garden know to send its puppets out, to recognize threat, which very well could be you? And the resin, which in my opinion is one of the most interesting, could become the pale gardens final attempt at self-preservation. Often, trees use resin to act as a sort of scab or Band-Aid, and it very obviously knows its way around defense systems, why not go the extra mile? The garden knows you're hurting it, though I do wonder to what extent of feeling. And all for a set of wood.

Helloooo I am Null :D gonna add to purgatory 2 lore because I was very adamant about adding them in hehe /silly
It was sort of a toss up in figuring out how exactly the team system would work in a formal kingdom setting. Were they performers, like a sports team? Guilds? Something different? In the end, we decided that the system works as a high-stakes “game” tradition within the Eyes Kingdom. It has been put into practice for many years. The games themselves were always pretty rough on people, contestants would have a chance to die, but more often than not it would lead to injury. Those who survive- and win- previous games would be granted entry to perform the next year.

Yet, something about the latest purgatory was *different*. The Eye had chosen new players (etoiles, bad, bagi, and tubbo) from other kingdoms to participate, and yet unlike any other prior competition, this time the players had no choice. Consequently, the game, as you would assume, was much more gore-filled, and with higher stakes of dying.
The Eyes reasoning, from what we can assume, was to implement what he considered a “test” on the surrounding kingdoms, whom of which he has seen rise (and fall, like GGN). Why he chose to do this in a manner that could be a literal war crime, is unsure.
But yeah! Teams wise, I focused a lot more on the crab team, because in this universe it is canon that sneeg has known etoiles. (Need more snetoiles Angst for me specifically- already have some planned- ). For his team to be one of the first out… even after the miscount… it almost seems like the eye *wanted* them out- for they did not have a teammate from another kingdom. They were disposable.

I'm not sure if this has been asked; but will purgatory 2 be incorporated in any way? I feel like it would be funny if there was a "Goose Guard" as a reference to Goose team, but no pressure :D!
aww thank you for saying it's cool!! I'm glad so many people have been enjoying me and Null's writing!! :D AND OHH BOY DO WE HAVE PURGATORY 2!! Okay so this took a lot of work, only because purgatory 2 seemed to be in a place where we had no idea what to actually do with it, Null was the one who really put in so much effort into making this part of the AU work!! He's got that dog in him that makes good stories. But in summary; The Watcher is a king of his own, ruling over a kingdom that every so often will hold games, where the participants are...less than willing subjects. Etoiles, Bad, Bagi and Tubbo all end up in this game after being kidnapped by the eyes workers. It's up to the four to try and survive the games while also getting attached to all of these people who very much just want to live another day. They all know it, an unspoken truth, even if they 'win' the Watcher will not let them go. They will keep playing over, and over, and over again until they break. Then they are just replaced with the next person who gets taken. A cycle that has worn down those who have been in multiple of these games, and one that terrifies the newcomers, now looking for any way out that doesn't involve a swift end. Will try and write down some stuff about the teams later on! but the idea of a goose guard is so cute im :( I miss goose...and raccoons...and crabs...Can we just have a purgatory 2 qsmp server plz...

So like, has it been CONFIRMED that the skeletons the dried ghasts hide under are the remains of other ghasts, or is that just something collectively decided by fans? Because on the one hand, if they ARE ghast skeletons, there are the same fossilized remains in the over world… which could correlate with the Uneasy Alliance advancement- where you *rescue* a ghast from the nether and take it home… let me cook
Even if they aren’t ghast remains, it is really interesting to see the same fossil patterns in both dimensions. I still definitely get the vibes of whale falls in regard to the soulsand valley skeletons, with the young ghasts likely sustaining themselves off of the bodies.
And of course I’ll acknowledge they could look the same only because they were given limited block generation types, but let a man dream okay.

Something about the creaking not spreading sculk upon death due to lack of exp, like yeah okay the puppets can be separate from ‘the universe said I love you.’ The real entity full of love is the hearts themselves. Once again adding this on to my ancient pale garden hc checklist. I have so many thoughts on how Minecraft works as a universe I need to explode.

[Minecraft live talk below, be prepared]
I’ve been considering how the new Pale Garden works as like, an ecosystem, and I think the idea of the Creaking being connected via the hearts is super super telling of how it all works!! Calling it a puppet for the forest that acts as though it were an extension: a limb or what have you, creates this concept of the entire Pale Garden being one living *thing*.
The most interesting real-life comparison my brain has headcanoned is Pando, which is that massive root system of aspen trees all connected in over a hundred or so acres. And like, that really breathes an extra bit of life into this pocket of the woods.
It’s quiet here because there’s only one beast that calls this land its home, and when it sleeps, it needs to ensure its body is kept safe. The Creaking is a protective mechanism and you just happen to be stepping around at the wrong time!

There is something so sickening about the exchange between q!sneeg and q!etoiles, the way in which from the very beginning they looked to each other in such high regard. The excitement from q!sneeg in the waiting room, hoping to get put on a team with etoiles. When put into context of the Blue Balls massacre that took place near the end...
The shift in q!sneegs tone from light to strained, the way he keeps himself moving as etoiles attempts to make amends for what he has done. For q!sneeg to be told it was just for the axe, that all the kill spam and looting was *just for the axe-* q!etoiles knows the game too well, being a seasoned vet at this rate, and he knows what type of behavior the game instigates. He also knows that q!sneeg is *good,* that he is someone to keep an eye on in competitions such as these. Theres something about knowing a man in such a way can make that guilt so much worse.
And, when the day is all said and done, we're left with the symbolism of q!sneeg tearing up every plant and flower he can find- something associated with life, growth, joy... and a certain other cucumber character- ripped out beneath him by his own two hands.

[Winter Drop and Story of the Illagers video talk below]
Now that the initial hype has been settled over the creaking and the winter drop [not really, I'm actually exploding over it] I really want to step back and just consider how the context of the Minecraft world here is changing. I find it so incredibly interesting how a new Minecraft lore video was posted about one of the mobs to be absolutely TERRIFIED of the Creaking shortly after its announcement - the illagers
I've been messing around in my experimental world, found a lovely patch of the pale garden absolutely surrounded by dark forest, only to find a big ol woodland mansion posted up a few blocks from this little border. And I could not just stop thinking like!! Imagine the illagers, living out in the dark forests due to their sickness and post-war riddled minds, having to just constantly think 'hey! remember to avoid this one teensy patch of spooooky forest! it'll kill you!!' The pale garden clearly is on the defense to keep itself alive, I've mentioned that before in a post about it's living ancient ecosystem, but something about their avoidance just makes the illagers feel more human rather than villainous. Like the recent Illager lore video states: they're sickly, they may like to tend to gardens, have an affinity for building totems, monuments, learning magic and transfiguring themselves, like that's all so inherently passive if you leave out the fact that they are 'aggressive' mobs. But just like the creaking, they attack when you approach, you as the PLAYER perceive them as the bad guys. I'd believe they too would have reasons to be defensive whether we know why exactly or not. I'll cook more with illager lore later I need to add this to my list of lore fanon bits to yap about- yall definitely wanna ask me for my thoughts on lore and let me cook on this i promise /lh.
I dunno, I just think as the game moves forward, there will be more substance to this entire region of worlds, more connective lore and whatnot. They did mention in the new video that we should expect to see more illager related things in the future. I do hope we get some sort of fixed up dark forest, for my own sake. In general, things are getting so much bigger, and yet everything small is slowly shifting along with it. and I definitely think that's in a good way.

I don’t know about WANTING to sniff them (cause most of them are sweating as fuck by now) but I do think clown pierce would smell faintly of popcorn/cotton candy and hannah would smell like iron and flowers

Clownpierce: You can definitely always tell when Clown is in the area because it smells like you’re straight up getting transported into a carnival. Like you said, the sickeningly sweet and buttery scents of a kettle corn, cotton candy, funnel cake, etc. I’m sure, from a distance, SOME people may find it nice, albeit a bit too indulgent, though most would just stand confused and wondering where the hell it’s wafting from- where HE is coming from. The closer he gets, the stronger the smell is, and some new notes begin to unfurl underneath: something undeniably strange. Not that you'd be able to tell until he's right behind you- CFGHVJB
I think Clown fits ‘Foxcroft Fairgrounds’ by Solstice Scents really well. Solstice describes this particular scent as an 'olfactory kaleidoscope,' which is most certainly telling of how the perceptions of him shift and change throughout the server. It starts similarly with its sweet cotton candy and cream soda, brushed gently in passing by a carousel of buttery confectionaries. In the Kingdom of Fools these notes gather, twisting and contorting along as you get closer to the territory.
When put in his presence, it starts to feel like the more complex sugar is being melted away- replaced instead with a woodfirey, burnt sugar, the smoke rising and billowing into the surrounding clear air [very nether, huh.] Whether or not you are on good terms will decide if this abundantly sweet smoke suffocates. And- if you are lucky enough [alive lol] to see him enchant, you may catch a faint scent of burning incense- the tendrils wrapping and twisting against his magic. The enchanted armor given away will also smell a similar smoky-sweet.
There is a section of reviews for this fragrance have said they find it overwhelmingly smoky or alternatively unpleasantly sweet, which I think will become more and more relevant as clown makes more enemies.
Hannahxxrose: SHOUT OUT FREAKY GNOMES,, where the kingdom stands heavy and heady, she stands in opposition, the scent of soil on skin and the song of a blade not yet sung. Naturally, like the name, shes always going to have her roses, thats a given- though I definitely think there's something fresher about the combination of her florals and her weaponry. A very slight sweetness takes shape that you wouldn’t necessarily expect from a ‘gnome�� that would live specifically *deep* within the earth. I think she tends to spend her time above more, connecting with her land and [more importantly] watching out for both her allies and enemies, and that ultimately reflects how she smells.
I’m going to have to go with the [now discontinued] ‘Shield Maiden’ by Poesie, a woody, clean-yet-dirty fragrance that melds her personal scent with her environment, its literally perfect. Wild rose and peony growing in a breezy, chill forest, shadowed by the great pines. A cold metal axe rests at the base of one of these trees, head digging in and exposing the dirt below. A lot of people have described that clean-and-dirty fragrance to be sort of odd, which considering her and her motives/alignments, that is a good type of odd.
As you get closer to Hannah, the sweetness from her flowers is cut in two by the sharp metallic scent of weapons and armor [biased to giving her pretty and awesome armor all knight-like sorryyy]- only for that to be emanated by the cold air. You can tell when she's been outside for longer periods of time as well, because then she begins to take on some of those more woody, almost green scents, and the armor even starts to become muddied up by the soil from her working hands. I can only imagine how the cold metallic fragrance shifts pungent when she needs to utilize her fighting prowess... kill a few kingsmen
I also do think, just as a fun addition, her roses become much more fragrant depending on her health as well! Just because they need energy to grow!!

The ending of Joehills first Hermitcraft S10 episode makes everything around the hermits feel so expansive, and yet so very tiny at the same time. I can’t fully describe the sensation it gave off, but it felt so different when paired next to the other first episodes I’ve watched thus far.
Like, we have a man, or rather the ghost of one, given a body within the Juppet after spending a whole season prior being incorporeal. Immediately, said Juppet is thrust into a group challenge, where he would be given proper introduction to how this new body of his works. And he seems to get that down just fine, completing what is tasked of his group, all the while figuring out how these soft-bodied digits can chip away at stone, or maybe the best grip strength to hold his freshly baked bread. Hey, he could even properly wear a helmet- or even better, improperly wear one.
But by the end of his episode, the camera pans out to a birds-eye view. As the viewer, we get a better look of the season-start blank canvas we are all used to as watching veterans. In the center, getting smaller and smaller the more we see this world, is Joe. Things are quieter, and he states he actually isn’t sure what he’s going to build, or where. And, in a sense, it feels as though he there is a lot more than housing that he is unsure of.
It must feel weird for a ghost to be back in the waking world- to inhabit in a tangible form once more, and relearn the fundamentals of what it means to be alive. To me, his season feels like exploration, expansion, whimsy, and simply figuring things out. And I think that’s really neat :)
I’ll probably think some more about the other hermits and what I have to say about them thus far. One episode in and I already have so many headcanons and analyses I want to share- so if anyone is interested I’ll be here rolling in the mind mud

Nothing truly insightful to discuss today, but I am very happy they are adding more ambience to this biome!! Though with the eye blossoms spewing orange particles… are those spores? Pollen? Some sort of sensory feedback system for the ecosystem. If the sculk can sense noise/vibrations, maybe this is how the pale garden sees…

I’ve recently got into perfumes, collecting them, looking into weird ones, history, whatever, and I just have the insatiable urge to apply scents to mcyt characters, for hermits, qsmp, any of em. I don’t think like, ANY fandom does that enough. Government assigned perfumes are IN. I already have a few characters I’m sure of but I’ll need to figure out more. If anyone cares to send characters my way I would be eternally grateful
