Established connection that was never utilized:

These two dueled one another for up to one thousand days, fought each other for the Numeron Code, and was the whole reason Astral was created in the very first place. 

Despite that, the show never went into anything with their cosmic dynamic. Or even acknowledged it much.

But think of all the missing scenes, or even canon compliant Added scenes, in fics you could produce by brainstorming even a little bit about them. 

There’s a variety of fun tropes to play with;

enemies-to-lovers, forbidden attraction, pure angel x fallen angel, garden of eden symbolisms, second chance, secret attraction, doomed yaoi, “was never meant to be, but became anyway”. 

To name just a potential few.

There’s a lot they could teach each other:

Astral’s arc through the series involved learning the slow acceptance of chaos, but a lot of it was surface level and from a very young / emotionally immature point of view. Don Thousand is the self proclaimed deity of chaos, its harbinger. Embracing it cost him his entire home. Think of the new emotions Astral could experience from learning about his early home world if he was forced to listen to Don Thousand’s perspective of it. Especially now that Astral has opened that connection to chaos again in their world . . .

On the other side, think of how Don Thousand might be affected by being forced to understand Astral’s innocent but earnest perspective. Astral represents everything Don Thousand lost when he was cast out and banished. To then have this same being allow your side to be told, for once, and defy its programming to do so . . . 

Make Shit Up. No one can stop you.

The ship doesn’t exist right now. You have the power to forge their dynamic using all the creative liberties you desire.

And again, it’s not like there’s nothing in-canon tying them together. There’s actually a lot. So you can either have a fun blast digging for it, or just make up your own stuff from scratch. 

Creatively, its an untapped well.

@zexalmonth I'm gonna be shameless and share one of my barian creature OCs from our bekunasch au where they have magical barian monster babies. This is Beki, whose name is ofc derived from Bekuta/Vector. He has a human form and is even attending Heartland middle school but his barian form is a sea dragon because Nasch loves all things marine life. Although Beki has an acid bite that can melt through anything, and nearly indestructible "skin", he is super sweet and sensitive and FRIEND-SHAPEd!!! I love him so much. He lives with his parents and siblings in a pocket dimension where Nasch used the numeron code to re-create his and Vectors past lives but in a peaceful time because.. um... they need therapy? Lol.

I love imagining Vector's palace as it could be had Don Thousand never gotten Vector under his control ...

20. What is their best memory together?

For purposes, I'll be using Numeron Code and Lunar Cycle for this one, since it's two of the established Dualism AUs with a set plot and ending!

Numeron Code : I think their best memories together are the simple ones where they're just playing games- whether by themselves or with the friends they've made along the way. Dueling has become a form of battle for them, something that decides life or death, whether they would be separated or not- and it's easy to forget that dueling in itself was what brought them together in the first place. Kururingo's music, particularly "Another Dearest" was a big inspiration for Dualism's dynamic in the first place, and it especially rings true for this AU. At the end of the day, they just want to play together.

Lunar Cycle : Lunar Cycle, in its entirety, takes place in a realm of dreams and memories- so the memories they make in there are kind of strange in a way. But, like Numeron Code, I think the memories they both value are the simple ones, where they were able to pretend they weren't in a glitchy reality; taking on the gym challenge together, helping the people of dreamworld Sinnoh along the way, even their encounters with Kris and Nikolai. The most important part of Lunar Cycle is, well, the cycling- and it's often Piper who bikes while Slater sits behind him, keeping track of their steps and saving their progress.

27. How far would they go for each other? Would they risk their own lives for each other?

They are very Lower-coded for a reason.

Ashe and I like to joke that they're many duos of certain media- Yuri and Estelle of Tales of Vesperia, Suujimatsu of Osomatsu-san, literally every duo in Yu-Gi-Oh, Madoka and Homura of Puella Magi Madoka Magica, etc.

Dualism was initially named Aibou, which itself was from Yu-Gi-Oh due to how important that term is. They went from being "partners" to "other halves"- they're halves of a whole, and in Numeron Code especially (or at least the second iteration of it), Piper does everything he can to keep that other half with him, as it fills a hole where his friends used to be.

Even in other AUs or scenarios, they care for each other to the point they would follow each other to the ends of the earth- whether it leads to a good or bad ending, as long as they're together, everything will be alright.

As from this collab with Ashe says,

"You made my dream come true," Piper smiles amidst the flames. "My dream- it's something we both share, right?" The screams of the souls he's hunted blend with those of the living- but he only hears Slater's voice and his song. "You've always been at my corner, even when everyone else left. You," He chokes up slightly. "Are my other half. My everything. I have you to thank for my victory." The silver coins that filled his pockets clattered to the floor, the sound of metal clinking against the ground morphing into church bells. An unanswered prayer remains unspoken. "You'll always have me in your heart- as you are in mine, partner."

A little fic about Ryoga/Shark and Astral/Apis's relationship before he ran away in my New Dawn AU :) btw, the flashback happens before Apis founds out that Adonis is his dad.

The school roof was always a strange comfort to Apis, even before his new friend group he just... Enjoyed being up there.

Apis had finished his lesson earlier than intended so he was given permission to leave class, this giving him time to be on the roof by his self for some time.

As he breathes in the pure air, a familiar, warm feeling snaked its way into his mind. He missed the days spent with Yuma and the others on the roof of Heartland Academy, but there was someone else he missed

Ever since Astral had used the numeron code, he was able to venture away from Yuma and the key. Though it was nice, it was extremely lonely to do so due to him being invisible to 98% of the population.

One particular cloudy day, he had decided to float to the roof after becoming bored of the lesson that Yuma was no doubt sleeping through. And there, he met a familiar face.

Ryoga Kamishiro seemed to be unkempt, his tie loosely tied and his hair knotted in multiple places, his eyes having bags under them.

There had been a incident after the war where many people turned their backs on the Barians, believing that they were no better than feral beasts, leading to harassment landing upon them. There was no doubt that 'Shark' had fallen victim to some of that horrid treatment.

"Oh, Astral." Ryoga said, looking at him with the dull expression. "Out of all of the people I expected to see me here, you were definitely not on the list. How are things?"

In truth, Astral felt awful for not being able to stop Ryoga and and the Barians from being harmed by people who failed to understand, but he didn't dare say it in fear of being misread and making it about himself.

"It has been well." "I can't help but notice that Yuma isn't with you, is that new? Or were you too scared to leave him before now?" 'Shark' teased, causing the Astral being to pout and turn away.

But even still, he couldn't help to giggle at the comment. "Perhaps. But, what about you? Are you not supposed to be in a lesson at this moment?" The comment made the former Barian emperor fall silent.

It was obvious, even if he didn't say it, constantly having to avoid the harassment had taken everything out of him, and it broke Astral's heart. "I apologize, you do not deserve that treatment, nobody does." "Hey, on the bright side, I don't have to deal with Rio's annoying voice or Vector, so I'm chill with it."

"Let's just say that people aren't treating me and the others the best, especially after all that's happened. So to avoid people ganging up on all of us, we've decided to not be seen together and not show up to lesson." He says, his tone more flat than it ever has been.

Astral laughed a bit more. After that day, they would never fail to meet on the roof each day to just... Talk. Talk about what? Anything really, they had found a comfort within one another that would be considered as taboo not even a year ago.

Apis held his phone and stared at the contact. It was Ryoga's. His mind was telling him to message him, assure him that he was okay and still alive, try to reach out. But his body wouldn't move, he was petrified.

What if 'Shark' didn't remember him? What if he was mad at Apis leaving without telling him? What if he tried to track him down? His mind filled with horrible possibilities before he was brought out of those thoughts by Yuki.

"Hey, Apis! How are ya doing?" Yuki clung around Apis's neck. "Oh! Hi, Yuki. I'm doing well, how about yourself?"

They were soon greeted by their others friends. "Honestly Yuki, and here I thought you only liked me." Minako said, making Yuki let go of Apis before clinging around her girlfriend.

"oh come on, you know you're my fave!" "Ew, get a room you two." Hayate said, smirking as he walked over to Apis.

As per usual, Saki was the last one there by 10 seconds, talking to Apis.

"You alright? I saw you leave class early, did anything happen?" Apis's face softened, putting his phone away before talking to his friends. Telling Ryoga could wait, at least for now

Day 3: 11th of August Let’s have a look through the looking glass: Take a character and make them the opposite of who they are!

Donk after lost the duel with astraland yuma do a nasty trick and take the numeron code and yuma making a fuse and new world with everything is change and nobody remember what happened before

Vector is the main character and take the place from yuma and go to school who got a necklace with the barian shape/ logo

Kaito take place from ryoga and want to save his bro who is in the hospital and he is a little bulling and serious at firts even he break the necklace of vector and take a duel

Yuma/don take the place from astral no have memories and needs recolect the over hundred number to unlock his memories but same time is a hide trick to awakes his real powers and being, yuma is always nice and helps vector have a duel bue everything change when he saw astral and feel he knows him and every time vector get a new number he start to feel afraid to get all them even he want to quit the mission but don take control of him making both continue the mission even he mock about astral

Ryoga take place from kaito collecting the numbers and over hundere numbers to save her sister

Erah take place from kotori now she is a human and friend from vector but she is a big fan from fourth aka zexal number who is the champion on tornauments and want a sighs from her and have a duel with her one time to declare her love

Astral, Kotori and the zexal forms take the place from the barians gangs but this time to save the astral world the exception here is their are the only ones knows about what don k did just their not remember what he took of them and why the name yuma is familiar for them

REESE WAS TALKING ABOUT THE TYPE OF DECKS SLATER WOULD USE.. and I think the thing about Piper is he doesn’t use any concrete deck of his own. Both before and after the horrors(tm).

The thing about Piper is that he’s always chasing after feelings of fulfillment, success, and being the top of his league. Being at the top of league guarantees a name in the stars (his mark in history.) and fills an empty void in his heart (at least he thinks so) and because he chases after this constantly, he wouldn’t find himself sticking to just one deck.

He’d use decks that make people angry and tick them off. Dominating control decks (stuff like mystic mine (which is horrible to think about in a Zexal-like duel arena)) and agonizing combo decks. He has experience with stuff like burn decks, and even exodia too. Whatever is the top, he’s played.

The meta changes constantly, so he must keep up, adapting to the newest deck by making it his own. So he can be the best. He has no desire to attach himself to just one.

But that’s before the horrors.

DURING the horrors, he ends up building a Jinzo centered deck. A deck that’s supposed to be unstoppable weapon unlike the one seen in the dominating meta. And it’s a deck he ends up making stronger himself with the inclusion of the number cards that he gathers for team plasma (which hurt him every time he uses them. Btw.)

Jinzo is a dark, machine type monster. Which falls back into the idea that Team Plasma is using him as a tool for their own goals. Which he was helpless to realize before both he and Slater are too late to realize. (And also is the opposite of the heralds, fairy, light monsters) And it becomes his duel spirit during this time. Unlike Herald of Perfection, who gives Slater absolute silence, Jinzo doesn’t shut up. Grilling him on every move he does and ordering him around. Like the tool he’s become.

His deck focuses on absolute control of the board. Making it so that, no matter what his opponent does, they’re completely shut down and helpless to fight back. (This gets turned against him with Ghetsis using his own deck against him. As well as using Jinzo, Layered (a card he didn’t even know existed) against him. Reflecting that even what little control he thought he had, never existed in the first place.)

After the events of the horrors, he and Slater don’t duel for a while. They deckbuild, sure, but a passion they had becomes tainted for a long, long time.

But during the time where they just deckbuild, he finds himself building obscure, rogue decks. Instead of focusing on nothing but tier 0. He’s focusing on decks he enjoys and makes himself feel happy and proud of what he’s made.

He’s not limiting himself to just one deck still. But instead of it being a desire to be the best… it’s just because he likes the game and is expressing his passion for it. And through his numerous deck builds, a different duel spirit manifests.

Ash Blossom and Joyous Spring is a staple among every deck. Yugioh players can’t escape it from both their opponents and their own decks. And no matter how many decks he builds, with varying gimmicks and strategies, one handtrap (Ash Blossom) always manages to work its way in.

He does manage to get his hands on his corruption deck. But even when he’s comfortable dueling finally, he takes a while to warm up to the idea of even playing it. He gets comfortable enough experimenting with Jinzo (albeit with Slater only.) but he’s still focused on just. Having fun and trying what no one else can think of.

The Relic Song being a special song in Blur/Blight canon and almost every AU ever with the exception of Numeron Code- Relic Song is just a personal song that Slater taught to Piper. It only becomes special once Piper becomes a Number Hunter, and that's the haunting melody his opponents hear him whistling before they duel for their life and he steals their souls.

Aka it's Haruto Tenjo's theme. And it gets whistled too.

Mizael+Kaito Au

Throwing this here because I don't know when I'll get to it.

AU: Numeron code got slightly out of hand, and now Kaito was living for a very, very long time.

And then he met a 10-year-old Mizael.

Slightly futuristic and SF ish...? Maybe...? Dueling is not that important in this AU.

No romantic relationship is intended here, ofc.

I first saw him on the top of the Tree. The, Tree, of course. Everyone knew what it was and where it was. You simply couldn't miss it. Be it when you woke up from your Pod or when you returned from traveling, it'd be the first thing you'd seen. It was tall, thin, covered by vines and foliage, stood firmly against even the strongest gust and loudest thunder. All of the kids and even adults in the village talked about climbing the Tree, but no one had ever done it.

Except for me.

I don't recall what drove me to it, but one day I stood underneath the tree when the day was dawning. I began climbing the moment when the first ray of sunshine hit my face, and I kept going. It was no feat for a brat like I was. Sure, I was in the taller bunch among my peers, but that difference was minuscule compared to the soaring height of the Tree. Though I didn't think that far ahead. I didn't even think about reaching the top. I only extended my hand out for the next protruding twig I could grab, pulled my self up, squeezed my feet between the vines, and repeat. I climbed for an entire day, no eating, drinking or resting. I didn't need to. I was so focused on the Tree beneath my body that I didn't have any spare time to consider even the basic needs. By the time I pushed my head into the thick foliage we used to admire from the ground, the night had already set.

And then my hand touched something cold. Inorganic. Something you'd never seen in a Pod that we all lived in. But it was a blessing for me -- my body was burning. Every muscle was throbbing, twitching, screaming at me for the torture it was put through. I didn't even have the energy to realize that I had just achieve something unthinkable. I was just lying there, flat on the ground, prostrated by exhaustion.

And then I saw him. Just his boots, to be exact, as I did not have the strength to look up. His footsteps approached and stopped at a distance. I almost mistook his gasp for the wind brushing the leaves.

And then I passed out.

I didn't know how long I was out for, but it must have been a respectable amount of time. I wouldn't know though, since the foliage almost covered the sky completely. Thinking back at it, maybe I should have been more alarmed by the entirely alien interior design and the unnamed equipments, but I wasn't. Because he was sitting by my bedside, holding a cup in his hand.

"That crack was left for emergency -- it would be too small for an adult anyway. Had you climbed up from any other angle, you wouldn't have been able to get inside. Now, should I condemn you for your intrusion, or applaud you for your bravery?"

I wasn't really listening to him. I was still tired, and whatever it was in that cup smelled heavenly. But I found more urgency in staring at him -- he was blonde, more pale than anyone I had ever seen. But it was his eyes -- I didn't, and still don't have the word for them. They were somewhere between grey and blue, with the shine of the sharpest blade. If he'd wanted, he could pin my down with a stare alone.

Of course, I never told him that.

He sighed and handed me that drink. It was creamy and sweet -- something I never particularly felt for, but exactly what my body needed.

"I am Mizael." I said to him with my coarse voice:"What do I call you?"

He fixed his gaze on me for a couple seconds more before he stood up.

"Call me Kaito. Don't say another word until I get you more water."

Eldritch Astral: or where the whole Astral race is like the Cthulhu of YGO. Mostly told through Kotori's perspective as she deals with the fact that her best friend is partner with an incomprehensible monster. Also the fact that Yuma cares more that Astral is interrupting his sleep than the fact Astral have golden veins outside of his body.

Angel Zexal au: Zexal is created by the Numeron Dragon and looks like those eldritch angel picture where they are vaguely humanoid with multiple set of wings and too many eyes. Also they are stupidly OP. Some how they got separate into Yuma and Astral. Yuma was found by the Tsukumo when they went on an archelogical dig and spent up until middle school inside the house until he could maintain the illusion that he looks normal (He kinda looks like a ghost with too many eyes and teeth)but had a hard time interacting with people outside of the Tsukumo because people always feel like there're something 'wrong' with him. Astral on the other was found by Eliphas and was use as a weapon for the Astral world until Kazuma send him to earth. Neither of them knew that they were Zexal.

Fairy Tail! Astral: au where the Numeron Code required a life to activate so Astral sacrifice himself and got transport to Magnolia as a human. Some time later he found Fairy Tail, the guild reminds him of Yuma and the Number Club so after awhile he joins. (Which is a few months before Lucy does).

reincarnated as a villai(ness??) au! Yuma: Getting reborn into his sister's old dating sim, Yuma could care less about romance and card game. (That was a lie, he did care about the card game). What Yuma cared about is finding a way to get a good night sleep without prophetic nightmares. And perhaps figured out what’s wrong with two of the love interests also what’s with The Vagabond? Ft. YumaxYuyaxAstral, Past!YumaxKotori And Past!SharkxYumaxRio, MC Vagabond as the suffering wingman.

Summary:Astral thinks he has to do this on his own.  Kite disagrees.

"I am sorry, Kite.  But this is how things have to be."

Kite's eyes narrowed.  "Is it?"  The holographic device slid onto his arm, and he felt the machinery humming on his arm. "I know Yuma's been kidnapped, but aren't you the ones who told me to accept help when it was Hart-"

"That was different.  Yuma's in danger."  Astral said, his eyes flickering to the cams.  He needn't have worried.  It had been child's play for Kite to hack them and run footage on loop.

"That didn't stop you before."  Kite took a step forward, and Astral's eyes flickered to the device on his arm.  "The both of you never let that stop you before."

"What's different now?”

"Astral?"  Kite called out, hearing his voice echo in the empty apartment.  Coffee bubbled on the counter, and Kite grabbed it instinctively and took a drink straight from the jar.

A plain manila white envelope sat next to the coffee.  Kite blinked at it.  His robotic drone hovered into the room, the propellers whirling.  "Kite!  I have completed the analysis for-"

"Shut up, Orbital," Kite said, squeezing his temples.  He tore off the edge of the envelope and a letter fell out.

Dear Kite,

By the time you read this letter, I will have already left.  Kite's fingers shook.  Burn this letter after you read it.  My partner and I have been compromised.

I love you, Kite.  No matter what happens, remember that,

"Orbital," Kite said, not letting his voice shake, "destroy this letter."  The vise of the drone clasped the letter, crumpling it.  "Disintegrate it."

"What are you g-going to do, Master?"

"What does it look like?"  Kite said, sweeping his coat behind him.  "I am going to find my idiot boyfriend."

That had been three days ago.  Before Kite had tracked down Astral through some hacking knowhow...and knowledge of what company he'd be sent after.

Kite had used to work for them, after all.

"I didn't expect you to track me down, Kite."

"You saved my brother."

Astral shifted, those vivid blue eyes meeting his.  "Yuma was taken, and now they're ordering me to steal some data from this building in exchange."  He slipped on his mask, the two-colored goggles sliding over his eyes.  

"Do you think they'd ask you to steal something meaningless?"  Kite snapped.  "You have no idea what they asked you to steal!"

Kite looked beyond Astral at the two double-doors of the lab.  "You worked here as a scientist, before Hart was experimented on."  Before we met.  Before two spies had crashed in to save his brother and Kite had begun working on his machines instead.

"They're working on something called the Numeron Code.  It was a project before I left, and it is far too dangerous to fall into the wrong hands."

"Be that as it may, I must save Yuma."

Kite smirked.  "I never said we couldn't save Yuma too."  He lifted his arm, showing the holographic device dangling off of it.  Orbital hovered out from behind his back and then above him.

"T-that's right!  M-master's got a few tricks up his sleeves!"

Astral paused, meeting Kite's eyes, and Kite met his stare head-on.  I won't let you down.  Like you didn't let me and my brother down.

"All right."  Astral said.  "Tell me your plan.  And let's save Yuma together."
