Part 2 - Should Carbs be in my diet?
Carbohydrates provide energy, however your body can use proteins and fats for energy in their absence. When you are in a low carb diet your body becomes low on glucose. When this happens your body breaks down its stored fat. This process creates an increase of ketones in your body resulting ketosis.
‘Ketosis as a result of a low-carbohydrate diet can be linked, at least in the short term, to headaches, weakness, nausea, dehydration, dizziness and irritability.’ – nhs england
Macro-nutrients are Proteins, Carbohydrates and Fats.
Each macro-nutrient has a place in your diet and all should be consumed within a healthy and balanced diet. The only difference with the macro-nutrient groups is the amount of calories they offer you per gram. If they provide calories, this means that they are also providing energy. In the absence of carbohydrates, proteins are able to be broken down into glucose for energy.
However , Weight loss isn’t about whether or not you eat a certain food group it is about calories in vs calories out. If you eat more calories than you burn then you will gain weight regardless of where those calories come from.
Therefore, When it comes to deciding what you should include in your diet you should consider the affects of the foods you are eating have on your energy levels and your moods.
 The Difference in calories of macro nutrients.
1g Protein = 4 calories.
1g Carbohydrates = 4 calories.
1g Fats = 6 calories.
