Heroic DOT Pothole Crew Aids Distressed Plane in the Bronx As you know, our pothole crews are heroes every day, repairing New York City's streets and filling thousands of potholes every year. This time, they really went above and beyond - helping to land a plane in distress in the Bronx. While making post storm pothole repairs in the center and right lanes on the north bound Major Deegan Expressway about a mile south of the city line, a NYC DOT arterial pothole crew noticed a plane in distress. Quickly thinking, they stopped all remaining traffic from proceeding in the remaining lanes (left) and thus kept all traffic from any impact. The plane eventually landed on the highway, right in front of the crew's vehicles. The DOT personnel immediately aided the three passengers and gave them shelter inside one of their heated trucks as emergency personnel were contacted. A potentially more devastating situation could have arisen if it wasn't for the efforts of this DOT pothole crew. Learn more about our heroes on the New York Times and the Atlantic Cities.

This is the final design that was chosen by the NYCDOT Urban Art program for their "Barrier Beautification" project. This will be a mural painted on traffic barriers that run along a bike path in the bronx. My design is inspired by many trips on the subway, and pushing through crowds on New York City streets. In using limited color, and simple graphic shapes I tried to capture how we all try to see whats going on around us, and at the same time be seen.
The site is located in the Bronx at Bruckner Boulevard, and Bryant Avenue. The design will span across a total of 9 barriers totaling to around 180 feet!
A big thanks to the DOT for commisioning my design, New York Cares for providing volunteers to help paint, my professor Dan Shefelman, and most importantly my mom. She was there painting with me all day.

DOT’s Urban Art and Safety Education programs combined forces to launch an innovative new safety campaign using art, haiku and QR code technology by artist John Morse. Installed at high-crash and locations near cultural institutions throughout the city, Curbside Haiku reminds New Yorkers of their responsibility to share our streets. This is how every city should be. The cars outside every day are stuck in traffic, childish drivers who never stop when taking corners no matter if someone is walking in front of them. Brooklyn is car hell. The smog is so thick the air tastes like burnt gasoline/oil. Every breath filled with toxic chemical spew. And the trucks are 1000 times worse barrelling down tiny brooklyn streets causing lung cancer and asthma. The cops charge bikes 300-1008$ for biking through a red light. The cops park in the bike lane. let cars use it as a parking lot.
