a couple months ago in august, i helped out with Tiffany Lockheart in making companion images for her Ardbert Week on twitter. i was looking to do it for all the days but i was actively stopped actually from two more - nonetheless i wanted to compile for tumblr what all i worked on! these were all made in the span of the week that Ardbert Week was going on.

WoL Lore: Ishita's Shards

Inspired by the lovely @starrysnowdrop, I have decided to make my own semi-comprehensive list of Ishita's counterparts on the various reflections. This is a headcanon for my WoL and it is one that I have put a lot of time and effort into. I, like Hali, also use the different Final Fantasy games, as well as Monster Hunter and Destiny, as the different worlds for those reflections.

Since XIV is an ongoing game this is all subject to change if we are given more info on the other reflections, but I am also not afraid of just saying, "Fuck it, this is my headcanon and I want it now." So it all depends on if I'm able to change things around without those changes being too drastic. I also have Ishita as the name of my MH and D2 character just for simplicity's sake.

Unsundered Self: Mnemosyne

Mnemosyne was seen as incredibly intelligent by her fellow Convocation members and she worked closely with Igeyorhm before being appointed to the seat of Azem. She helped develop concepts that aided in the protection and safeguarding of knowledge and she helped the people of Etheirys by being a voice of reason in difficult times.

Ishita is one of 3 shards that bear the strongest resemblance to Mnemosyne, the others being from the 9th and the 11th. She is an expert spellcaster and a formidable tactician. These strengths, along with her steadfast dedication to her friends lead her down the path of being The Warrior of Light. Though she wishes to know more about her unsundered self she is content in being in the dark, unsure if any knowledge gained would impact her sense of self.

1st Shard: Nyelbert, Magus of Darkness, (Rejoined during the events of Shadowbringers)

In my primary canon where Ishita and U'tala, my partner's character, are both the WoL Ardbert is U'tala's counterpart and Nyelbert is Ishita's. They are both powerful mages and seem aloof and cold on the surface, but they have a deep sense of duty to their friends and feel very strongly.

2nd Shard: Aqua, Keyblade Master, (Rejoined during the Calamity of Fire)

This one is extremely self indulgent, because I know it would be a miracle and a half if we were to ever get a KH crossover in XIV. BUT, I feel like if the KH universe WERE somehow connected the closest to Ishi's counterpart I can think of would be Aqua. She is an agile fighter and one of the most proficient wielders of magic amongst the KH cast. She is also dedicated to seeing her friends safe, even to the detriment of her own well being.

3rd Shard: Garnet Til Alexandros XVII, Princess of Alexandria, (Rejoined during the Calamity of Earth)

Garnet is intelligent if a little naive due to her upbringing, but that doesn't mean she isn't capable of thinking quick to outmaneuver and outwit her foes. She loves to learn, is a capable leader, and like Yuna, is a powerful summoner and she uses her power for the betterment of her kingdom.

4th Shard: Lunafreya Nox Fleuret, Princess of Tenebrae, Oracle (Safe-ish?)

Luna is incredibly strong of will despite the harshness in which she was subjected to live. She wasn't intimidated by anyone and she never gave up on her convictions. These strengths are shared amongst the other Shards, but they are on full display here as well as with Ishi, the primary Shard.

6th Shard: Ellone (Rejoined during the Calamity of Ice)

I'm gonna be perfectly honest, I don't know a whole lot about final Fantasy VIII. It was a little too weird for me, but I gotta have it in here somewhere, my brain won't allow me to NOT have it. So I figure Ellone was as close as I can get seeing as how even though she doesn't show up a whole lot she is still at the center of a lot of major as well as minor story arcs within VIII and she ties almost all of the characters together.

7th Shard: Jill Warrick, Dominant of the Eikon Shiva (Rejoined during the battle of Carteneau)

Since we got our crossover event I'm still figuring out what to do here, but for now it is going to remain the 7th Reflection. Jill is a calm person, but her quite hides a strong sense of justice. Ishi and Jill both keeps their feelings closely guarded and only really allow themselves to be vulnerable when they are either alone or with a person they trust wholeheartedly. In XVI Jill and Torgal have an almost inseparable bond, that's because Torgal is a decedent of the wolf that once protected the former Dominant of Shiva. Shock of all shocks, that wolf was named Fenrir.

8th Shard: Stiria, Eidolon, Half of the Twin Sisters of Shiva (Safe)

Since Shiva in XIII is split into two beings I headcanon Stiria being Ishi's counterpart and Nix being Ysayle's respectively. Not a whole lot more to say for this one if I'm being honest.

9th Shard: Ishita, The Young Wolf, (Safe)

Ishi on the 9th is a guardian. Guardians are people chosen by a massive space entity known as The Traveler (nudge nudge wink wink). Guardians are gifted with the Light of The Traveler and, for the most part, use their gifts to protect the solar system from any and all threats. Ishi is a bit of a rogue guardian, she does things on her own terms. She has a complicated relationship with The Traveler and she primarily uses Stasis, an ice based power that is connected to the Darkness, to combat her foes.

10th Shard: Yuna, High Summoner, Sphere Hunter (Rejoined during the Calamity of Water)

I follow the fairly common, basically canon, headcanon that FFX and FFVII take place in the same world. However, as much as I like FFVII FFX is my baby and it is where I place a lot of my focus. This Shard inherited one of Mnemosyne's physical characteristics, her heterochromia. Like Ishi, she too once placed the needs of others above her own and as she grew and became more open about her wants and desires she wasn't afraid to speak her mind.

11th Shard: Ishita, Hunter of the Fifth Fleet, (Safe)

I headcanon that a lot of the monsters in Monster Hunter were all concepts created by the Ancients, explaining their almost magical ecology. On this Shard Ishita is a Hunter, a person who makes a living off of hunting monsters. (Like it says on the tin.) She only really takes on hunts in instances where a monster needs to be relocated or is causing a disturbance to the local ecosystems i.e. invasive species that are taking more from local wildlife. She was also able to tame and befriend a Velkhana, an Elder Dragon known as The Iceborne Wyvern, aka Ysayle's counterpart on this Shard.

12th Shard: Celes Chere, Magitek Knight (Rejoined during the Calamity of Lightning)

Ishi, like Celes, was a very proud person in the early days of her adventuring. She was very independent and felt it was a slight on her pride if anyone offered her assistance, but as time went on she warmed to the companions shes made and she learns to be there for them the same way they were there for her.

13th Shard: Golbez, The Knight in Black, (FFIV)

Golbez, the traveling companion and friend of Durante, was Ishi's counterpart on the 13th. Despite his imposing size and quiet demeanor, he was always putting himself in harms way to protect those who could not protect themselves. He used his skills in sorcery to help cover Durante in their battles against the Memoriates.

Again this is all subject to change, but I am pretty happy with what I have so far. As much as I love Final Fantasy I haven't played all of the games and so I had to learn second hand about some of the characters I picked. Even so I've probably put waaaaay to much time into this, but I'm having a grand ole time so that's all that matters to me.

Since you have mentioned that starting them I would like to hear what are you thinking about ShB role quests like the idea, characters or the plot 👀

I have literally like, opened the quests for healer, tank, and (just yesterday) physical dps, but I am apparently speed-running the caster dps quests. I am about halfway? through those at lvl 74 and my next quest is lvl 76.

I don't really have any opinions QUITE YET except that like, apparently I care about the Edgelords a lot more than I expected and I've used any dialogue opportunities I have to defend them.

Just from first impressions, I feel like I'm going to enjoy Healer quests, and maaaaaybe Tank quests (my very quick impression of Granson reminds me of Erasmus so I'm mostly thinking about Erasmus instead of Granson lmao), but I LOVE the Casting DPS quests so far. I'm so curious about how the other Virtues will manifest and I'm like

already crying about Taynor? Cerigg is a nice boy too. I have like 20 screencaps of Nyelbert's total of 10 seconds in the quests so far. I have nothing to say in my defense.
