Minister of the FCT Nyesom Wike, has admitted the government cannot force landlords in the city to reduce rent
Tumblr media
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has stated that the government cannot force landlords to reduce rent in the city, as the cost of rent is market-driven. He stated that no government puts a cap on rent costs, and that everything has increased due to costs. Wike disagreed with complaints about rent increases and suggested that rent should not be singled out. He also asked if a law should be made to limit the price of a 2-bed room flat to N50,000 or N100,000. Wike stated: “No government puts a cap as regards the cost of rent. It is the market forces. “You are aware that everything has actually increased because of costs. The man who built the house didn’t build that he would not make profit at the end of the day. “I don’t agree with people always complaining about rent increases, there are increases in everything today, so rent should not be singled out. “Do you want us to make a law and say that a 2-bed room flat should not be more than N50,000 or N100,000, for example?” Read the full article

Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike has described the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, as the hero of the 2023 presidential election. Governor Wike said the decision of Peter Obi to contest the presidential election under the platform of the Labour Party, primarily prevented the north from retaining power after the end of President Muhammadu Buhari's tenure. The Rivers State governor said this during an interactive meeting with the Technical Dealers Association of Nigeria, Computer Dealers Association, Garrison Phone Dealers Association and Building Materials Traders Association in Port Harcourt on Saturday, March 11. Governor Wike explained that contrary to insinuation that he did not support Peter Obi, what most people failed to realize is that the Labour Party presidential candidate remains his hero of the election. "Obi is my hero. If Obi did not contest, power would have gone back to the North. The whole of South -South and South-East that PDP lost, if Obi did not contest PDP would have won. The hero is this election is Obi whether you like it or not. I am not here to please you, Obi is the hero. He may not have been pronounced as the winner, no problem, the law will take its course. If Obi did not run this election, power would have remained in the North. Whether he declared a winner now or not, history will be on his side that he fought and fought well." The Rivers State governor said the reason why he did not publicly declare support for any presidential candidate was because the PDP G-5 governors had unanimously agreed to ensure the emergence of a president from southern Nigeria to succeed President Buhari. Governor Wike, said while members of the G-5 governors assiduously worked for power to return to the South, the likes of former Rivers State governor and immediate past Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Amaechi, who is now soliciting for Igbo to support APC candidate, Tonye Cole, mobilised votes for Atiku Abubakar. "If Amaechi loves the Igbos, why did he not support Obi? Instead, he supported Atiku." #peterobi #nyesomwike #nigeriaelections2023 #mycelebrityandi https://www.instagram.com/p/CpqVLqyLWmB/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

'NGF loses focus in defending rule of law' - Wike
Tumblr media
Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike criticized the Nigeria Governors' Forum (NGF) on Monday for not showing support for Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki. Maintaining that the NGF had become a toothless bulldog as it has lost focus on its role in defending the rule of law. Wike maintained that the Forum used to be non-partisan and a powerful voice on national issues. Pointed out that since the All Progressives Congress (APC) took over the NGF in 2015, governors have been turned to beggars. The governor revealed this at a media parley held at Government House in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital. He said: “Before 2015, the Nigeria Governors’ Forum used to be very powerful as symbols of their respective states but APC killed it because they were protecting the interest of the ruling party. “It is quite unfortunate that I belong to such a forum. Nobody seems to respect the Governors Forum again because we have given ourselves out. “During one of the rerun elections in this state, my security aides were withdrawn, thus exposing me to danger. The Forum did not say anything because the Chairman was a member of APC. “I told them then that what they were doing was wrong. Now, they have become a Beggars Forum even when there are constitutional infractions. “You can see that APC governors say that they are progressive. You can see how progressive they are when they keep quiet when a fellow sitting governor is disqualified from contesting elections.” Wike Read the full article

Wike had vowed to set fire to the state of any governor who meddled in the political unrest in Rivers State, furious at their statement and stance. But when Wike appeared on Channels TV Politics Today, he stated: “I said it to the governors forum and I repeat without any apologies to anybody anywhere. You mean you want to violate the processes and constitution of our party. “After your meeting, you came out on national television as chairman of the forum to read a communique that their brother in Rivers state – whether legal or not – and I’m sitting as FCT Minister from that state listening, and you expect me to fold my arms because you are a governor? “You look at me and tell me that? Gov. Wike attacks Amaechi again
Tumblr media
The Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, has attacked a former Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, for allegedly trying to de-market the state. Wike spoke at a second term inauguration banquet at the Government House Port Harcourt. He said contrary to the false propaganda about insecurity, Rivers State has continued to grow her internally generated revenue since 2015. In attendance at the dinner were the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus; Senator Dino Melaye; Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogun. Others are, Chairman of Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers and Amayanabo of Opobo, King Douglas Dandeson Jaja; Founder of AIT, Dr Raymond Dokpesi, among others. Wike said, “Amaechi claimed on NTA Tuesday live that he did not bring the railway to Rivers State because of insecurity, what about Kaduna and Daura with very high level of insecurity, yet they took railway there. “Just this week, the President met with the governors of 19 northern states and they discussed how to stem the tide of insecurity in the region. Yet they were not denied projects. “For how long will Amaechi continue to de-market Rivers State. Was it insecurity that made him not to give the President 25 per cent during the last elections? “You claim Rivers State is insecure, but you came to the state to hold your birthday. Every Rivers indigene owes it a duty to protect the state. “When I came on board as Governor in 2015, we met an Internally Generated Revenue of N4.5billion. But now, it has grown to N8-9billion. If the state is not safe, our Internally Generated Revenue will not be on the increase. “Let nobody de-market Rivers State. This ugly politics will not work. We have not benefited anything from the APC Federal Government since 2015. “They are refunding money for Federal projects, but they delisted Rivers State. But I will not bow to anyone, I will only continue to respect constituted authority.” Governor Wike further announced that competence and loyalty would drive the setting up of his second term cabinet. He said only persons with 100 per cent loyalty will make the list. Read the full article

EndBadGovernance: DJ Switch challenges Dokubo and Wike to make a public appearance with their threats
Tumblr media
In the midst of the ongoing statewide hunger protests, well-known Nigerian DJ and activist Obianuju Catherine, better known by his stage name DJ Switch, has challenged both former Niger Delta militant commander Asari Dokubo and Federal Capital Territory (FCT) minister Nyesom Wike. According to newsmen, on Thursday, August 1, 2024, the 10-day statewide hunger protests known as "End Bad Government"—which draw attention to Nigeria's economic problems—began. Asari Dokubo had forewarned the organisers not to bring the protest to his area prior to the demonstration, arguing that their objective ignores the problems in the area. Nyesom Wike, the minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has also threatened to cancel the protests in Abuja. Additionally, on Thursday, the first day of the protests, Wike stated in a meeting with the security council in Abuja that there is intelligence indicating the demonstrators plan to damage property. However, DJ Switch, a well-known Nigerian performer, responded to Wike and Dokubo's comments over the weekend by challenging both men to face the demonstrators in public if they weren't afraid. In a social media post, the DJ, who was one of the organisers of the 2020 EndSARS protests, stated that food, not threats or violence, is the only way to end hunger among people. She twitted; “The only thing that can stop HUNGER is FOOD! Not guns, teargas, or threats from fat globs like Asari Dokubo and chicken feed Wike! I wonder why they are hiding now. Come outside let them eat you raw.” Read the full article
