Pakistan has reached six times in T20 World Cup Semi-finals, the MOST by any team. While Australia, England, Sri Lanka, India, New Zealand, and the West Indies have all appeared four times, South Africa has only appeared twice. Pakistan Beat NZ To Eye Semi Final Slot
T20 World Cup (19th Match) - Super 12 - Group 2
Middle order batter Asif Ali came up trumps for Pakistan as he slammed a quick-fire 27 in 12 balls to ensure victory for his team over New Zealand in their group 2 match of the T20 World Cup in Sharjah on Tuesday night.
The win put Pakistan on the road to securing a place in the semi finals after they beat arch rivals India in their opening match.
Chasing a getable 135 for victory, Pakistan were cruising smoothly at 63 for 2 until Mohammad Hafiz was brilliantly caught at long-off by Devon Conway followed by Mohammad Rizwan trapped leg-before that left them at 69 for 4 in the 12th over.
Pakistan hit further trouble at 87 losing their fifth wicket in the 15th over when Imad Wasim was leg-before to Trent Boult.
But Asif Ali joined the veteran Shoaib Malik and hit two sixes in the 18th over to put Pakistan back in the match.
Malik for his part showed just why Pakistan still needs him at the age of 39 when he stayed at the crease and kept Ali company to get the momentum back and remain unbeaten on 26 from 20 balls with two fours and a six.
Batting first New Zealand looked to be on course to make a defendable total at 90 for 3 in 13 overs, but a spectacular piece of fielding by paceman Hasan Ali off his own bowling to run-out Kane Williamson put Pakistan back in the match.
Williamson's dismissal for 25 put the breaks on New Zealand as they struggled to score only 44 more runs in the remaining  6.5 overs for a total of 134 for 8 as paceman Haris Rauf grabbed four wickets and was largely responsible for preventing New Zealand from making a big total.
Scores: New Zealand 134 for 8 in 20 (Daryl Mitchell 27, Kane Williamson 25, Devon Conway 27, Haris Rauf 4 for 22) Pakistan 135 for 5 in 18.4 overs (Mohammad Rizwan 33, Shoaib Malik 26 not out, Asif Ali 27 not out, Ish Sodhi 2 for 28)

New Zealand Cancels Pakistan Tour
Former World Cup winning captain and current Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan has been unsuccessful in convincing New Zealand to stay back and play in a three-match ODI and five-match T20 series.
His bid to get the series off the ground came after New Zealand Cricket said it was pulling out its players and flying them home on Friday following security concerns.
The matches were to start on Friday in Rawalpindi and both teams Pakistan and New Zealand had already prepared to play their first ODI.
“Following an escalation in the New Zealand government threat levels for Pakistan, and advice from NZC security advisers on the ground, it has been decided the Black Caps will not continue with the tour,” NZC said on its website. “Arrangements are now being made for the team's departure.”
The Pakistan Cricket Board said Prime Minister Imran Khan spoke personally to New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern and informed her that Pakistan had the "best intelligence systems in the world and that no security threat of any kind exists for the visiting team.”
NZC chief executive David White said the advice he received made the tour impossible to continue and that he was supported by the New Zealand Cricket Players Association.
"I understand this will be a blow for the PCB, who have been wonderful hosts, but player safety is paramount and we believe this is the only responsible option,” White said.
Pakistan became a huge security concern for all international cricket teams after terrorists attacked the Sri Lanka team bus in Lahore in 2009 that killed seven people and injured several Sri Lankan cricketers, including Thilan Samaraweera, who is among the New Zealand tour management as the batting coach.
