Okay, so I think I’ve discovered my problem with season 11. The episodes are good, but the storytelling lacks power. It is acceptable storytelling, but it is not the kind I would expect from a series finale. So, I'm going to break down where I think season 11 (so far) is failing and how I'd do differently below.

First of all, I think the Reapers are a useless addition. It takes away focus from the Commonwealth, and quite frankly I think they are stupid. So, throwing it back to episode one, here's where it went wrong, and how I'm changing it:

Episode 1:

No R*apers. Instead, Alexandria still needs food. So Maggie (who was in the Commonwealth and serves as our proper introduction to them) , accompanied by Lance, Mercer, and a bunch of other Commonwealth guards, head off to DC. Why are they not going to Commonwealth you ask? Simple. DC is a lot closer than Ohio, and Commonwealth doesn't exactly trust Alexandria yet. And what better way to earn trust than go on a mission? So, Maggie, Lance, Mercer, Commonwealth guards, Negan, Alden, Daryl, Dog, Gabe, and Lydia (yes Lydia, keep her in the back of your mind) go off. (Gage isn't going in this AU). While in the tunnel, Maggie and Negan have their same confrontation, which leads to Lydia jumping in front of Negan, begging Maggie to spare him. Maggie, (who barely knows Lydia, and only knows what she's been told by others, which is basically that she was a Whisperer--the same people who destroyed Hilltop--and turned on them.) She eyes the girl darkly, spits out "He didn't take people from you," to which Lydia responds just as sharply, "Yes, he did." This takes Maggie aback, which makes her lower her gun. The rest of the episode is the same, BUT in regards to Ezekiel, Yumiko, Princess, and Eugene in the Commonwealth--they are telling us things the rest of the Alexandrians don't know. We see their brutality, which leads us to think--can we trust the Commonwealth, and why does Maggie trust them? The episode ends with Maggie dangling off the train car, and Negan deciding to save her.

Episode 2:

Everybody is s h o o k by Negan saving Maggie, including her herself. I have no particular problem with this episode, EXCEPT--Lydia is the one who gets trapped with the walkers. Gabe, Negan, and Daryl want to save her. Maggie and Alden don't. At the last second, Maggie joins in on Lydia's rescue effort, mirroring Negan's actions in the prior episode. Lydia is saved, and Negan and Daryl beat the shit out of Alden for not wanting to save her. Maggie talks about her story, and Lydia shares one of her own, leading to the start of familiarity between the two. In the final minutes of the episode, we see our group come under attack.

Episode 3: Turns out, the CRM* (from World Beyond) has a branch in DC, and they do not like intruders. It's a bad fight, and we lose a lot of Commonwealth people. Lydia is badly hurt (don't worry she lives guys), and Alden is killed by a CRM soldier, leading to the scene where Negan drags Maggie away. He, Lydia, and Maggie run off to the Church, separated from the Commonwealth guards. Negan tends to Lydia's wounds. He tells Maggie "thank you for saving Lydia," and she says, "thank you for not making my son lose another parent." They start talking about parenthood, (because Negan is Dad at this point), which leads to a breakthrough between them. They air everything out, and it ends with Maggie concluding that "Glenn wouldn't want me to cause that girl the same pain Hershel has. I will never be your friend, Negan, but I can work with you. Now, let's go find my people." They carry Lydia off, and that ends the episode.

But sometimes she bubbles up with excitment though, or goes off on a million tangents without realizing, which hershel absolutley adores.
