Tavern: do you have any cozy settings (or, if non-cozy, favorite settings) in your world?

Coffee n’ San-tea in modern Waterford, big time! Famed for its comfy armchairs, eclectic menu and the prettiest view of the historic downtown district! Whenever I write/re-read a scene in that location, I find myself wanting to go there for a cup of coffee and an almond croissant SO badly!

Candlelight: share a gentle scene or talk about a favorite scene you've written.

I have a couple of really sweet scenes in development for my current project. One of the main reasons why I’m rewriting the story is I want to flesh out Annabelle and William’s relationship and, aside from mere attraction, I want to actually show them becoming friends, too. Their mutual interest in poetry and Shakespeare is a good opportunity for this. So, I have an idea for a scene where Annabelle, being the bold little weirdo she is, asks him if he was named after Shakespeare. He (embarrassingly) admits that he was actually named after a flower called Sweet William (they’re like really, really pretty flowers, too- I just love them!). Anyway! She gets jealous and says she wants to be named after a flower, too… and he tells her that maybe someday, in another life, she will be. Kind of alluding to the eventual existence of Marigold Casey. So sweet! 🥹💖

So, I actually haven’t touched my story since yesterday- where I spent a good chunk of the day writing and editing before posting chapter three. But these questions got me really excited to start chipping away at the next chapter! So thank you! 😄 I really want to have some humor and levity in this one, without completely losing track of the plot and that might be a little bit challenging because the last chapter was really heavy. I might have Benson do something goofy… he’s been a little more serious than usual. Hmmm… 🤔

PASTOR BENSON: //you told me that there was going to be an ice cream social!

GISELLE: That’s after the Q & A, P.B…

TOMMY: Says you! I’m currently sandwiched between two of the sweetest little sugar cones this side of//

LISA: //Tommy! End of the row, pal. Between P.B. and the curtain.

ANNABELLE AND MARIGOLD: Thank! You! Lisa!

LISA: Now! I brought you here today to ask you some questions about yourselves! Compliments of my dear friend, Tiny Spock!

MARIGOLD: Wasn’t he quite tall?

TRISTAN: It’s a Big Bang theory reference, Miss Casey. Not that you own a television or anything.

PASTOR BENSON: Ah! The Big Bang Theory! Barenaked Ladies! You know, they came to town one year and I went to see them? Long story short, I was not happy at all. False advertising, if you ask me.

TRISTAN: Uh. Ewww.

LISA: P.B. no. Just, no. Tristan, I’d like to start with you, if that’s okay?

TRISTAN: After I answer it for you, can I like… go? I sort of have a thing.

LISA: We’d love to have you stick around for ice cream…

TOMMY (winking): Who wants ice cream when you can have curly fries?

LISA: Right. I get it. You are rather… preoccupied. Do you have a favorite color, Tristan?

TRISTAN: Uh, monochromes.

TOMMY: Monotones?

ANNABELLE: Monochromes. It is an art term, typically referring to blacks and grays and…

TRISTAN (becomes almost uncharacteristically starry eyed) : Oh, and rose. I love… rose.

LISA: I understand. You can go and get your curly fries now…

Exit TRISTAN, pursued by a curly fry.

LISA: Annabelle? Could you tell us a little bit about your favorite book?

ANNABELLE: Well… my favorite book is a blank one! To fill with content entirely of my own making! My favorite story is certainly As You Like It by our wonderful Bard. It is just so very delightful! And hilarious. That’s what I love about Shakespeare, he knows how to merge beauty and seriousness.

TOMMY: You sure do, gorgeous! Unlike Tristan. I mean. What a train wreck.

LISA: Tommy. Rude.

PASTOR BENSON attempts to say the word, “rude” whilst cooing like a pigeon. It kind of works. ANNABELLE applauds it, at least.

LISA: Giselle. I understand that you have an interesting ‘favorite food’. Would you care to elaborate on it for everyone?

GISELLE: DEEP FRIED TWINKIES!!! You know, I tried makin’ those at home once. They just weren’t the same as that fellow with the food truck downtown!

MARIGOLD cringes. LISA pats her on the shoulder, but it doesn’t seem to help.

LISA: Hey, PB! Why don’t you tell us all about the time that you got arrested!?

PASTOR BENSON (dramatically, very, very dramatically): The thunder crashed! The lightning flashed! And down the alley… a hobo dashed! And from his pocket, a knife he drew…

LISA: No…

ANNABELLE (cheering): Continue! Continue!

PASTOR BENSON: … andcutacockroachrightintwo!!! Bahahahaaaaaaaa!

MARIGOLD: Not a hissing cockroach, I hope…

LISA: The time you were arrested. Please.

PASTOR BENSON: Very well. But fair warning, this is not for the faint of heart! Annabelle, you’d better beat it! I’m only kidding, toots! Righty-ho! I was having my wisdom teeth pulled. Two! Count ‘em two… wisdom teeth. I named one ‘Pain’ and the other one ‘Panic’. Worms, they were! Worms! But those worms had nothing on me! Because the dentist, wonderful fellow, gave me extra laughing gas! As I was laying there in a euphoric bubble of pink elephants and groovy lemon pies, I heard a voice. That voice, my children, was the voice of GOD! And He said to me, Douglas! … that’s me, by the way, I’m Douglas… He said, Douglas! The circus has come to town! I need you to cast your selfish, earthly desires aside and free ALL OF THE ANIMALS FROM THEIR CAGES!!! Let me tell you, Cats, I walked straight out of that office, high as a kite, found those flags from the big-top on the horizon and before I knew it, I was riding down Mainstreet on the back of a giraffe named Alfredo! 18 months in the slammer! And I had to clean up all of the caca from the streets. I still have those wisdom teeth, too. A blessing in disguise. They make you wiser, you know.

tell me abt the benson fam!

They've been in the works for a while to say the least.

The Benson family is old money, but for a cost. I don’t have the specifics figured out yet but there was a deal with some supernatural being and not many people in the family actually know about it.

On another note I’ll move on to the specific family members, also some extra info on Katie. (under the cut because it gets long)

Annabelle Benson is a complete and utter bitch, she views her children as possessions instead of loved ones. She has this goal to have the “perfect” child who she can raise to take over as the “leader” of the family.

Julian is slightly different with the fact he does actually love his kids, he just doesn’t know how to do it normally. He was born into the Benson family unlike Annabelle who married into it and he was raised strictly and cruelly. He does love his children but he very often manipulates them or gaslights them into doing what he wants.

Gabriel is the oldest of his siblings and he was considered “perfect” by his parents, until he came out as gay. He was treated like an outcast in his own family, constantly reminded how he messed up his own “perfection” by “choosing” to be gay. So, Gabriel ran away from his family, he cut ties completely. Gabriel had moved to Beacon Hills, but eventually his parents found him and they did what any overbearing rich family would do, they bought a house and moved to Beacon Hills to be closer to him.

Victoria Benson was an accident, her parents already had the “perfect” child and had no need for her. Vic grew up always being reminded that she was the accident and that “no one wanted her”. But then her parents had another kid. A planned child, even though they already had Gabriel, the “perfect” one. Vic felt like she was living in hell, until Gabriel came out and she finally had a chance to be “perfect”. She worked as hard as she possibly could until she heard the news, her mother was pregnant again and she could feel it inside of her that this one would be “perfect”. Finally having reached her breaking point, Vic put all the work she had been doing into applying for a university, one far far away from anyone in her family.

Katherine Benson holds a complicated spot in her family, with her brother wanting nothing to do with anyone who has the Benson name and her sister despising her for just existing. Katie had nothing yet also everything growing up, she had expensive dresses and all the best toys, but no one to talk to. Being alone for most of childhood impacted her social development in extreme ways, with her never having learned how to be nice and respectful. But even then Katie had always craved a friend, so when her family moved to Beacon Hills and she got to go to a brand new school where no one knew her, she took that opportunity and ran with it. Until everyone automatically assumed she was rich mean girl and stayed far away from her, well, everyone except for Stiles Stilinski.

Camille Benson was basically born with the weight of all her parents expectations on her, set to be the “perfect” one. Her parents took precautions with her, made sure she would never end up like her other siblings. Cami was pretty much taught at a very young age that she had to be “perfect” or she’d be discarded and she’d seen how her siblings were treated, just like broken toys.
