Everyone had someone they looked up to growing up, for lots of us, that was someone in the media, and for lots of girls across the country, they came in the shapes of Disney characters. For this day, we want you to show which female media icon your OC looked up to as a little girl. Whether that be Megara, Princess Leia or even Katniss Everdeen.

On January 29, 1959, eight year old twins August and Feyra Sherwood visited the local cinema to watch the eventual Disney classic, and it was from that first viewing that Feyra would grow up looking up to Aurora, also known as Sleeping Beauty or Briar Rose. As an adult, Feyra would be inspired by the character’s kindness and grace, when she discovers her father’s heritage to Narnia, and would continue to use those traits throughout her reign.

None of us can function because of Hera and Chopper. Also I would like to know about Jacen and Ezra. I have seen that mena Massoud is at least being considered (really hope they confirm soon). Also we need Jacen!

So I was reading Chapter 3 of @laughingphoenixleader's fanfic Space Married?, which is awesome and I love it so much, but anyway, there was a moment where Kanan tells Hera that he worries about her sleeping schedule sometimes, to which she responds, "I abandoned a healthy sleeping schedule at age twelve as one of my first acts of rebellion against my father."

And because I used to spend a lot of time looking at memes, an idea got into my brain. Everything I just wrote is prelude to this:

Basics

Character Pronouns & Gender Identity: she/her cis woman

Sexual/Romantic Identity: heterosexual (honestly if she had really thought about it and been able to explore her identity further it probably would be at least a little more complex. However Katniss really has not thought about it. Thinking about a sexual and romantic identity was the last thing she wanted, seeing it as something to be avoided)

Character District: 12

Why did they decide to join the rebellion?: Initially? She didn’t mean to. Katniss genuinely wanted nothing to do with it. A rebellion seemed doomed to fail, and something that would only get her and her family killed. 

The first who really told her about the rebellion brewing was President Snow, and he made the consequences of it very clear. Katniss never set out to be a rebel. She didn’t want to be an icon, she just wanted her family to be safe. When she thought about an uprising, she thought about its inevitable downfall.

Her first revolutionary action happened before she even knew about the larger movement and was never supposed to spark what it did. When Katniss defied the gamemakers plans she was just thinking about her and Peeta together against the gamemakers. She was thinking that either the two of them would die or they would both win. This was a choice she made for Peeta and herself. The idea of forcing others into a situation where they would win or die, especially when the odds that they would win were so astronomically small was not something she would even consider.

It was after the games, after Snow had threatened her, after she had talked it over with Peeta and Gale that she began rethinking it. She still wouldn’t consider herself a revolutionary. But Katniss was starting to feel like she wouldn’t be able to protect her family by keeping out of it. And then it felt like she had less to lose. 

Then the rebellion rescued her from the Capitol and revealed that they had kept her family safe. They were fighting for a better future and there was no going back. Katniss wasn’t just a part of the revolution, she was the face of it. 

Character Biography

Character Life before the 75th Games: 

For a child from the Seam, Katniss’s early life was not an unhappy one. It wasn’t an easy one by any means. There was never quite enough of anything, life was restrictive and they were always under at least a low level of scrutiny. Her father had to work long hours, and her mother was often occupied in trying to heal people who could not be saved. But her mother’s healing brought in at least some money from those who could pay and her father’s illegal hunting combined with his black market contacts meant that while there were definitely times of hunger, they never starved. Katniss felt safe, as much as that word meant in District 12. 

Katniss was an outspoken child, too much at times. But early on she learned to be more practical than expressive. Her father taught her how to stay safe and how sometimes that meant being silent in the face of injustice. At least until they were safely inside their home.

When her younger sister Prim was born, Katniss knew without being told that she needed to protect her. She loved her sister from the moment she got to see her. However this meant she had to be even better at controlling herself. Her father was there to help. He taught her that sometimes you had to grin and bear it. 

And sometimes they went into the woods. Her father brought her along with him to hunt and Katniss got to be out of the confines of the district for at least a few hours a week.

It was this skill that would save her when he died. After her father died in a mining accident, Katniss’s mother shut down. She couldn’t do anything for herself let alone for her daughters. And the Everdeens began to starve. Katniss managed to begin to hunt on her own, and then with Gale. She and Gale formed a strong bond through their mutual hunting and protection of their families. 

When Prim’s name got called at the reaping, Katniss’s decision to volunteer seemed less a choice than the only option available. Prim would never have survived. Katniss could never let that happen. 

When she arrived at the Capitol the wealth and excess there disgusted her. The other tributes and their skills scared her. And the other tribute Peeta Mellark–he confused her. 

His strategy, which became both their strategies to win the Capitol over, was to create a star crossed lovers storyline. Katniss would have appreciated a heads up. (this will be a theme)

In the hunger games itself Katniss survived by trying to avoid others until the tributes thinned out and then with Peeta killing the final ones. During the games she allied herself with Rue, a tribute from district 11 who reminded her of Prim. After a tribute from District 1 killed her, Katniss shot without thinking, the first time she had directly killed someone with a weapon. 

When the rules were changed on them at the last minute she and Peeta agreed on a plan. Either they would both make it out or neither of them would. They both made it out. They were crowned victors, proclaimed destined lovers. 

Katniss and her family moved into Victor’s Village and for once they had enough to eat every day. Katniss didn’t have to work to survive. She was supposed to have a hobby of design, but she still went out to hunt when she could. However District 12 was changing. President Snow was displeased with what happened in the arena and it showed in the new peacekeepers who showed  up in the district and the new, harsher rule. On their victory tour, Katniss was charged to try and prove to Panem that she had no rebellious intent. She needed to prove to President Snow that she wasn’t a thread.

She failed. 

It was announced that in the Quarter Quell, former victors would be reaped.

Character Life from the 75th Games to Present: 

The first thing the Capitol did after capturing her from the ruined arena was make her do some interviews. She was sedated when they picked her up and she woke up cleaned off and dressed to present. She didn’t know what had happened in between. They gave her cue cards. She still had some drugs in her system, and didn't understand what had happened. 

She refused

She heard Prim scream. Not two days later she agreed to do the interviews. She said she was okay. She begged Peeta to surrender himself to the Capitol. 

And then she disappeared into the cells and labs of the Capitol. 

The torture she went through is not going to be described in depth here. I will go into detail at a later point in a separate resource. I will leave it that they essentially tried to reprogram her mind. At some point she was convinced Prim and her mother were dead. She couldn’t remember whether it was by the hands of rebellion or the capitol. 

And she knew that Peeta had tried to kill her. He was dangerous. He had lied, he manipulated her and hurt her. 

When she was rescued, it was a couple days until Peeta was able to see her. When he did come in she tried to kill him. Since then she’s been trying to figure out what’s real and what isn’t. She’s working hard to be able to be okay around people, and interact with Peeta and remember the truth. Katniss has also agreed to be the Mockingbird, to do what District 13 wants of her.
