Azem being unsundered instead of Emet-Selch would make for some intriguing changes actually because Kassandra couldn’t see aether very well - not quite to the level the ancients usually could, and certainly not to the level of Hades or Hythlodaeus. She wouldn’t be capable of recognising an old friend in a sundered soul. Emet saw Azem over and over again as the fragments of her soul reincarnated, and it showed in his relationship with the Warrior of Light, but if it were Azem she would be faced with a reality where Emet was gone. Even if his shard was stood right in front of her, she wouldn’t be able to tell.

Alias: Archmage, Honeybee, Azem, several nicknames from her theater time.

Gender: female

Age: 27 in ARR, 32 in ShB.

Species: Hyur (Highlander)

Zodiac: aquarius / aries / cancer / capricorn / gemini / leo / libra / pisces / sagittarius / scorpio / taurus / virgo / unknown 

Abilities/Talents: Dancing, Acting, Diplomacy, Magic, Ranged Weapons,Playing Instruments, her own special brand of ‘diplomacy’, Botany, has become strangely enamoured by fishing for some reason, chocobo racing, 

(Her main canon jobs she started out with were Black Mage, Summoner, and Scholar. (She knew Dancer before even coming to Eorzea) She learned Machinist, Astrologian and Dark Knight during her time in Ishgard and later learns the basics of Monk from Lyse.

Urianger is another one of the people she has had a years long tight-knit friendship with first that evolved into a romantic relationship later on. Out of her family-group the one who gets her most next to Adriene is Saran due to their shared past. Nayan and her are most alike and have a special bond.

Lalapril Day 1: Arrival

Kass opened her eyes on a sky that burned with a white fire, surrounded by beautiful purple trees unlike anything she'd ever seen. Well, this isn't like any description of the Underworld I've ever read. Either everyone has it wrong, or I'm still alive.

Kass wasn't wearing her armor when she arrived, so the Exarch will give her a set unlike anything she's seen. And she quickly realizes there's not a single other Lalafell anywhere in the Crystarium, much less anything sized for them. But while people look at her oddly, they do have a name for what she is.

I have to say, I hadn't expected Lalafells to be one of my favorite races when I began playing FFXIV. My reaction at first glance was they were meant to be comic relief or maybe halfling inspired. Halfway through ARR, though, I kept telling my daughter that they had all the classic traits of dwarves, a race I do love to play (she managed to suppress her snickers until I hit Shadowbringers...) And I'm not sure you can get as far as the beginning of HW without realizing that Lalas are just as complex and diverse in personalities as the other races. Pretty sure two of the top five most hated NPCs are still Lalafells, while there are definitely a couple in the most beloved (Tataru, for instance).

And they give Lalafells every bit as much loving attention as the other races, whether it's clothing, animations, expressions, or camera angles in cutscenes. OMG, Kass has some great clothing. And I was really surprised at just how GOOD the expressions are.

Everyone looks *at* Kass when speaking to her. And in some cases, they even adjust body angles in a very Lala-specific way so it feels friendlier.

Or they change the camera angle, above and behind an NPC so Kass is more clearly in the scene.

There's never a moment when the game doesn't treat a Lalafell WoL as a serious adult. Not that people don't sometimes comment on your size. Lots of moments where it's funny when people react in terror to a Lala WoL. Or the Lalafells in the group are out in front to defend the non-combatants

Sometimes, the comedy of a scene is just that much funnier with a Lalafell. I'm convinced they chose the warrior trainer location with a Lala warrior in mind:

Even more than two years after starting to play, it's hard to explain how much that still means to me. Because more than a decade ago, I fell in love with Dragon Age: Origins. The dwarven origin stories were two of my favorites, and I particularly loved that the men and women dwarves had the same build. In fact, they absolutely HAVE to have the same build for the commoner dwarven origin to *work*. A fact which they completely threw out by the time they got to DAI (there weren't really any women dwarves in DA2 which was honestly a human-only game anyway.) Dwarves in DA: I were a very reluctant afterthought with that reluctance made clear because it was too much trouble to change camera angles, etc. for scenes with them, with the result that in a huge number of scenes, the camera was above the head of dwarven NPCs or there was furniture in the way. And they suddenly gave them extreme sexual dimorphism---my first thought on seeing a woman dwarf for DAI was that they introduced hobbits while men dwarves were at least twice as wide in the shoulders as in DAO, sigh. Which of course broke that DAO origin. Honestly, it would take a lot for me to get seriously interested in a DA game again because I felt I was sold such a subpar game as someone who played dwarves by preference.

So there's never a time I'm playing Kass in FFXIV that I don't appreciated the loving attention to detail, even if it's nothing more than an NPC looking down at her when she walks past.

Lalapril - Day 3

Kass now has 4 classes at 80+, and last night she finished the Healer role quests for Shadowbringers (Red mage is still 53-ish, so the magic DPS will be a while lol.) Other than a comment in the very first conversation about Kass's missing helm, there hasn't been any special dialogue for Lalafells/dwarves. But on impulse, I recorded the last conversation with Giott (which turns out not to be in the inn book, so good thing I did, lol) and when I compared it to a non-Lala conversation someone else had posted, I realized that some lines that were borderline flirty---were Lala/dwarf specific.

When you walk up to her, she says:

And she got this response:

Giott is stuttering a little and doing that embarrassed head-ducked-hand-waving emote.

But I found a video where a non-Lala picked the same dialogue, and they got THIS:

"Ha! Looks like you finally figured out how to tell a joke! Now's the part where I stare all misty-eyed into the distance, right?"

And she does NOT do the embarrassed emote. She stands erect with hands by her side. Completely different body language.

So...Giott may have a thing for a dwarven/Lalafellan WoD.

EDIT: So, apparently others have gotten this shy response, so it isn't dwarf/lala specific after all. Unless it's some early dialogue trigger that I can't trace now, it's possible she only has this reaction to women...

I forgot to do the level 80 dancer quest with Kassiya until tonight (the past few months have been hectic.) I really appreciate how they put in the extra effort to make Lalafells look good in scenes like this. Though obviously, there's more emphasis on arms than legs lol. My recording software is not the best, so I apologize for the pixelation at points.
