On to question 3--do you have a "system" for picking out names or finding face claims? Or do you look to certain sources for inspiration?

I'm not sure I'd call it a "system".

For face claims:

Sometimes, I get a general idea for a character like Nisha and then think back to actors I could use. I've always enjoyed Tiya Sircar and want her in more stuff. Other times, they come fully formed like Madison Egan. She was never anyone, but Brie Larson. I knew the character would have a rough journey and I knew Brie had the chops for it.

I do try to stick within in the same era which is why Carrie Fisher is an OC for two 1980's films. It really takes me out of a story if a face claim doesn't fit and I hold myself to that.

For names:

I tend to look at popular names for the year they were born for first names (if one doesn't come to me right away). As for surnames, I usually check the ethnicity and find a list.

I used to be really precious about name meanings and all that, but I'm older now and more boring.

Hiya from OC bingo! If your OCs could transform into any one animal at will, and they got to choose the animal, what would they pick and why?

Hi!!

Hmm. I don't know which ones to choose.

1. Nisha would be a tiger because she's fierce and South Indian. She would totally eat Logan.

2. Nicolette would be a red panda because she's small and cute and inquisitive. She probably puts her hands up when she's startled too.

3. Madison would be a horse because she's helpful and looks pretty, but will kick you in the face.

4. Margot would be a kangaroo who seems friendly but would definitely kick you in the ribs if you pissed her off.

5. Priyala would be an otter. Minding her own business. Swimming along. Possibly holding paws with another otter. Sweet and chill.

3. Tell us all about the OC you are most proud of creating.

I love my OCs. Honorable mentions would be Rashana & Jesminder Rao (Defending Jacob) and Madison & Margot Egan (Veep). The current owner of my heart and one I’ve spent a lot of time on is Nicolette Stark (Marvel). She’s the accident child of Maria and Howard Stark. She’s very protective of herself, flawed, funny, and loyal. I’m very excited to show you what she’s up to.

6. What’s the best writing advice you’ve ever seen?

In film school, I learned the importance of outlines. I was told writer’s block comes from not having things outlined and I agree with that 100%. I know it’s hard to outline, but it does help. Also, read On Writing by Stephen King.

11. Copy and paste a line of prose you are particularly proud of.

I cheated and posted a section

“What…the…hell?” He takes it and studies it, turning it over.

“Open it.”

His eyebrows shoot up when he reads the inscription.

“This is Banner’s?”

“Isn’t that hilarious?”

“Wow.”

“And the writing is so bad. Look at the preview.”

‘Geraldine was so overcome with the wild lure of lust that she threw herself into the arms of beefy abandon’? What do you mean? That never happened to you?” There’s a glint in his eyes that makes Nicolette smirk. Steve Rogers is fucking funny. She looks at him holding back her smile.

“No. Did you encounter a lot of beefy abandon in World War II?”

“Can’t say I have.”
