Hey there. Big ds9 fan. Rewatching the begotten, saw Odo pouring out the baby’s goo, and realized it might be interesting to know what it’s made of? Or any changeling goo really. You wouldn’t happen to know? If not, no big deal. Thanks :)

Honestly I have no idea. Mostly when Odo when to goo it was (very early, relatively primitive) CGI. I'm not sure if they ever had a practical for it. And if they did, I don't know what it was.

usually "odo ACAB" is a bit, but sometimes i see people say it seriously as the reason they can't enjoy the character. of course you can dislike any character for any reason, but odo is way more interesting than that! just having a morally beige guy in a law enforcement role doesn't automatically make it copaganda. odo's relationship to law enforcement (justice vs. order; the belief that being an outsider inherently grants him impartiality) is tied to his nature as an alien mystery character. it's interrogated in the narrative because it parallels and informs the larger story ("laws change depending on who's making them"; the founders destroying the galaxy to create order). YES odo is a cop and also a bastard, but his character is too complex and inseparable from the sci-fi genre to be a one-to-one parallel of the real world police!!... on the other hand, garibaldi,,,

#i have a lot of thoughts about law enforcement on b5 and most of it Shouldn't We Be Like Saying Something About This #i know the narrative shouldn't always have to hold our hands while we cross the street #but just watched one of the SEVERAL times garibaldi has a bad day and takes it out on an unarmed civilian while in uniform #and it's always a cue for us to worry about how sad he is #so the narrative IS holding our hands but we're walking into traffic i think #odo #deep space nine #babylon 5
