Running a booth, performing, and trying to snag fun photos in between can occasionally lead to chaotic moments like chasing the sun in armor, but with the right people and a bit of luck it can also produce pure magic. :)

A huge thank you to Liv F.H. for capturing this moment of @unicorn-shieldmaiden and I as the sun set on faire last summer.

I hope all my WA friends have been enjoying the gorgeous sun we've been getting recently, before we get plunged back into the cold. brrr

Grace Emily Ogot (May 15, 1930 – March 18, 2015) was a Kenyan author, nurse, journalist, politician, and diplomat. She was the first Anglophone female Kenyan writer to be published. She was one of the first Kenyan members of parliament and she became an assistant minister.

She attended the Ng’iya Girls’ School and Butere High School throughout her youth. She trained as a nurse at the Nursing Training Hospital in Uganda. She worked in London, at St. Thomas Hospital for Mothers and Babies. She returned to the African nursing profession, working at Maseno Hospital, run by the Church Missionary Society in Kisumu County, Kenya. She worked at Makerere University College in Student Health Services. She was the very first woman from Kenya to be published in English.

She gained experience in multiple different areas, working for the BBC Overseas Service as a script-writer and announcer on the program London Calling East and Central Africa, operating a prominent radio program in the Luo language, working as an officer of community development in Kisumu County and as a public relations officer for the Air India Corporation of East Africa.

She worked as a Kenyan delegate to the General Assembly of the UN. She became a member of the Kenyan delegation to UNESCO. She chaired and helped found the Writers’ Association of Kenya. She became one of only a handful of women to serve as a member of parliament and the only woman assistant minister in the cabinet of President Daniel Arap Moi. #africanhistory365 #africanexcellence
