#oh also the theme and ending songs give me the impression that we're getting a much angstier sonic game than what we've previously had

Last Twilight ภาพนายไม่เคยลืม Ep 4
This show continues to impress me a LOT, and I've got thoughts on P'Aof-ian structure and themes, but right now I'm just all up in my feelings.
Anyway! got carried away an distracted midway through, but here's the liveblog, you know the deal. (for anyone who doesn't: I try to watch largely without subs, so I'll inevitably end up romanising names in different ways from the subs. sometimes I remember to go back and 'fix' that, sometimes I don't.)
they seem to be emphasising sounds in this scene, I like that
oh we're ASKING now
the emphasis on other senses! SENSES!!! I love this
FLIRTING
I love this
HIS FRIEND
OH car and songs
is that a P'Bird song? that sounds like a P'Bird song (one google search later, turns out IT IS I'm ridiculously proud of myself for guessing right 😂)
CALLED IT (sorta) haha of course Mawk likes Paper Planes' Bad Boy!!!
look at the ROAD gdi Mawk
Phawjai doesn't hold back and I LOVE her for it
FRIEND
I love how Phawjai tries to do a lot right,
Day you're so GONE
annnnnd Phawjai cottoned on
Gee~~~
I love that Mawk just tries to give him an out
I think this might be the first time he told someone directly
he's venturing out so much!!
and everyone's teasing Day about Mawk, I wonder when the reverse starts
a fan!!!
Mawk just observes, I love that
NOOOO it's the bus stop music
did they borrow Mark's trophy for this? 😂
there's SOMETHING with August, we'll find out I'm sure
is he your ex, Day? is that it?
this is so sweet
oh, that looks delicious
asdfasdfasdfsd wtf
Mawk looks so standard!Jimmy gorgeous here 😂
product placement time??
oh this is HAND PORN, wow
and the music does not help, aaaah
that gulp!
Day is so GONE asdfasdf
what an asshole
oh this is gonna go badly
and this now that they just mentioned his record, oh, this is gonna be a problem
is this Mawk and Rung's parent's house?
GOOD FOR YOU Phawjai
oh no, she's pregnant?!
shittttt
I love how this is also a theme in P'Aof's works. Real people problems, man.
why is this bar familiar?
oh, this will get overwhelming, with the noise and all that
oh this is gonna go badly
!!! I love how they made this a way of like, asking weird questions without making it weird? if that makes sense
this sucks, he was so confident and now …
don't just grab him, Mawkkkk
this could be awkward or great
this flirting in front of EVERYONE'S salad, I cannot
oh I worry for Mawk here
helLO autotune 😂 but that's P'Bird's song again!!
they're both so sweaty
that's such a cute picture!! he's smiling so widely. Mawk's gonna catch him looking for sure.
it's EP 4 out of 12 and one of them is sleeping on the floor I SEE YOU, P'AOF
is he gonna fall over him on his way to the bathroom? because that seems like something he'd do
oh???????????????
no WAY Mawk is sleeping through that, he's gotta be pretending
peak drunk behaviour, Day
of COURSE he's awake
August is back next ep, and apparently he has NO idea why Day just up and left. this is gonna get awkward.
this show just continues to be so good, and I'm grateful.

streetlight manifesto: a comprehensive review*
*of one album
streetlight manifesto (SM) is an American ska band founded in New Jersey in 2002, consisting of several members of other musical collectives, such as Catch 22 and Bandits of the Acoustic Revolution. alright i'm done summarizing their wikipedia page. i just learned those things. let's review the album Somewhere in the Between (2007).
1. We Will Fall Together
youtube
physically impossible to start off stronger than this! the band is made up of so much talent, several members being former orchestra members, etc. WWFT is sort of your summary for the overarching themes of struggling with religion and fear of death.
If you listen to nothing else from this list, listen to this one! the brass is incredibly sexy (I say brass instead of being specific because there's horns, and trombone, and saxophone.. i mean it's kind of everything and i have a hard enough time telling the difference), the bass is simply devious, and the times it focuses on just guitar are so clever.
not to mention the lyrics! this song in particular is a sort of fuck you, when we go down, it'll be together, with those of us we trust and love.
And when we fall we will fall together No one will catch us so we'll catch ourselves
and in the face of a religion that is in practice only violent and threatening, when things seem this hopeless
They're coming after all of us with everything they've got With the fury of a soldier who will answer to his God So how will we fight? All we have is logic and love on our side
anyways! WWFT is simply maddening in its perfection. it's a rally, it's a war cry, it's a warm embrace in the dark. and how could the rest of the album possibly hold a candle to it? (somehow, it can)
2. Down, Down, Down To Mephisto's Cafe
this one starts out as if it's angsty 90s grunge, but oh, this is no Creep, this is no 1979. we're not lamenting loss of belief and alienation here, we're riding a sick bass line down to hell :)
I will say that in an album that is just so fast, the slower start can be a little jarring, but we're early on, and it's for a good cause, so it doesn't particularly bother me! especially not when we have such hard-hitting lyrics such as:
Someone shouted "Everything's for nothing" (Somebody shouted, "All is lost") But I can't buy that nonsense too
Even in the pits of despair, ostracism for one's lack of belief, facing the idea that there is nothing after this life, perhaps, everything is not for nothing.
This is a fun song in the same way Keasby Nights by Catch 22 is a fun song ("My my my how the time does fly when you know you're gonna die by the end of the night!" is so revitalizing to repeat over and over), because that whatever we're all gonna die, let's do a kickflip about it mentality is awesome, but the emphasis on love and kinship and atheistic morality is so, so important also.
Give 'er a listen here
3. Would You Be Impressed?
AGAIN! you would not think things could get any better after those two. Yet the song opens up with a fresh sound, grittier vocals, and a darker tone. the horns in particular are so eerily announcing... something. and with the song's condemnation of apathy, of cruelty and of detachment from the world, judgement day may not be too far off base.
youtube
the song progresses, proclaiming various horrors in the world, from "it's not my fault" to "it's all my fault," the former in protest of responsibility, the latter in stark realization once it's too late. well, that gets pretty dark, but the song itself is absolutely wild.
4. One Foot On the Gas, One Foot in the Grave
well, it was inevitable in an album full of 10s. OFOTG,OFITG is a solid 9 :/ if only because of the slow start, again! if this was your average mid 2000s pop punk/indie rock album, it would be par for the course, but this is ska, and so there's kind of a high demand for your music to be thoroughly adhd.
that being said, we do pick up speed relatively fast, and it's a plucky consideration of questioning one's ingrained beliefs. give it a whirl if you so please
5. Watch it Crash
oh boy, are we back to the 10s. we have some of the most rhythm guitar heavy moments in the intro, and it so suits the desperation and resignation of the lyrics:
It said "We can't just blame it on our mothers Claim everything they did was always wrong" And there ain't no turning back, when our train is off its track And there's nothing we can do but watch it crash
the resounding, nearly ironic cry for "Mercy, mercy me!" paired with this sort of watching it all burn feeling is so real? there's always a cloying desire for the security that religion offers, that there's some force watching out for you. and it can be hard knowing there's not.
but! at least we have watch it crash. listen to it :)
6. Somewhere in the Between
this is THE epitome of that thing that's like, emo/punk/goth is when life sucks and you ___ about it, and ska is off to the side like life sucks but we got a fucking sax solo! doot doot doot
We have an absolutely joyous brass riff throughout this song about how we are all going to die.
Maybe the times we had, they weren’t that bad And everything else was part of our path We sang: “I don’t know where we go from here” This is the anthem, the slogan, the summary of events And we all just idealize the past So you were born, and that was a good day Someday you’ll die, and that is a shame But somewhere in the between was a life of which we all dream And nothing and no one will ever take that away
not only that, but this quivering, sensual instrumental in the middle-- how's that for something amazing in the between? this song is a masterpiece honestly. like-- yeah!
youtube
7. Forty Days
once again-- how could you top SitB? well, with Forty Days. we've got this sultry, swinging riff opening a song about the haunting creep of past sins.
with regards to the vocals, i get a Mad Caddies vibe from this song, just with the way the singers sound. a little rough, discernibly edgy.
These lines are kickers:
What a way to begin, we inherit sin
the christian belief that we inherit sins from our ancestors, and that we are born into a sin that can only be cleansed by belief-- well what if you don't believe?
I've tasted seven sins, so they won't let me in I knock knock knock until my knuckles are bruised and raw Stuck in the middle with my blood in a puddle on the floor We made our beds, we'll judge ourselves
I love this set of lines for its rebellion, the "no one can judge me but me" attitude, the knowledge that one's lust for life will be one's eternal downfall.
What a waste! So many decent people at the gates
and when we all get to heaven- the challenging of traditional religious morality, the idea that a perfectly good person could be turned away for lack of belief.
and then while you contemplate all of this, we have a pleasantly clean but complex guitar solo. anyways, it's a must listen, i think.
youtube
8. The Blonde Lead the Blind
and we're back to cheerful ska riffs :)
this is a fairly stand-alone song, and can be about popular culture leading those who subscribe to it, or about religion and its affect on those who subscribe to it... well i guess they're both fads, aren't they?
the chorus is delightfully rebellious:
Did you lose faith? Yes, I lost faith in the powers that be But in doing so I came across the will to disagree And I gave up, yes I gave up and then I gave in But I take responsibility for every single sin
let's take a moment to wax poetic about the skill of this band, yes? let me be a hater for just a split second and say that it's a little disappointing to hear so much popular music that doesn't ooze musical talent. it absolutely requires technique and expertise far above my comprehension, but i kind of like to just hear a song where i know the people are ridiculously talented... like yeah these guys are Professional Musicians. okay i'm done lol. TBLTB here
9. The Receiving End of it All
i believe this song references the fact that SM was robbed not once, but twice on their tours of Europe... hence "That motherfucker, he took everything we had"... well considering the other lyrics, it's probably not that, but this is a fun and essential SM fact. no, i don't have any others. just preaching for the album lol.
this song stands alone just a bit, in that it's about a failed relationship. it may or may not relate to the themes of religious separation throughout the rest of the album. it does, however, go very hard.
youtube
10. What a Wicked Gang are We
any instrument that can trill is brrrilliant in my book, and this song therefore does not disappoint at all. This is the final track on the album, and holds the position well. it's a biting address towards America as a whole, evidenced by the use of "Tis of Thee" like, as in, "my country".
I mean, in that regard, it's nothing particularly unusual though, just about how the political class is running this country into the ground... pretty standard stuff in the punk sphere?
however, it does wrap the album up quite well. shifting the focus from religion and fear of death towards something that we can control is so smart, relevant in 2007 and unfortunately still relevant now! it's so terribly easy to get depressed in the wake of all this, but do please remember. at least we have killer sax solos.
youtube
to sum it up: yeah good album . i'd say more but tumblr is groaning under the weight of all my links. sure hope this posts.

Friday AMV Recs
This week's recs are fandom specific. Mobile Suit Gundam specific that is! Mobile Suit Gundam is a massive franchise, with plenty of timelines to get you confused! Today, we're focusing on entries in the Universal Century timeline (aka the main one). These AMVs are arranged more or less in order of when their show takes place. Visual spoilers!
Sound of War by Skyking AMV - Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin
Origin is fundamentally a prequel and this really uses that for all its worth. The slow build towards war gives me chills and the editing is well done. The inciting attack is almost more impactful in this format as we figure out the tragedy as it unfolds via context clues. The shot choices are really effective. Also, I am not immune to the hope of a good Amuro ending cameo!
War Pigs by I Forgot My Pen - Mobile Suit Gundam (multiple UC)
Listen, gundam is fundamentally a "war bad" franchise. The gundam are cool and marketable, the action is fun, Char is probably here, and war is bad. This AMV does a great job of combining an anti-war song with the action and core anti-war theme. The action feels exciting and almost wrong in that feeling which is hard to pull off. The timing and sync are both great.
Combat Harness by EnQuatre - Mobile Suit Gundam: Thunderbolt
Oh boy! Time for the inherent tragedy of war! The escalation of tone as the song goes on is impressive. The editing choices and sync in this AMV are inspired. I love the shift from scene to scene in tune with the beat. The emotional through line and almost frantic energy towards the end is really effective. Makes me sad every time!

Crimson eyes and those stupid little white lies
Part 1: Before you, there was him.
——————————————————
The prologue is up on my page now! (Go give it a read) along with the introductions for each character :)
Song: Nirvana (smells like teen spirit)
"We still feel as if we're teenagers because we don't follow the guidelines of what's expected of us to be adults, this song also has a teen revolutionary theme."
11 months earlier, day 1 of UA:
April 24th 2022
Mission plan: find the successor of one for all.
I pull out a cigarette from my jacket pocket, a dirty habit I'd picked up from my so called brother, I sigh, leaning against the bus stop, the fog dense today.
I light it and take a drag as I look down at the uniform surrounding my body, UA, the most prestigious school, the one I'd be attending, I smirk slightly and wonder to myself how they'd managed to pull this off.
I take another drag, letting the smoke fill my lungs, it was currently 7:15, the bus was due at 7:30, HE didn't want me to be late, opting for me to make a good first impression, if that even mattered at this point.
I roll my eyes at the thought, the music flowing through my body from my earphones, I close my eyes as I hum slightly, my foot tapping along, if only I'd been born 30 years earlier.
I open my eyes once again as I throw the cigarette to the side, suddenly feeling nauseous, I step on it with my boots, the platforms making loud contact with the ground, it was cold even though it was the end of April time, the tights uncomfortable against my legs as the green plaited skirt flowed just to the mid section of my thighs, I didn't wear the blazer, not really caring for being told off, I was here to do a job, not make friends, I still maintained the red tie with the white button up shirt, and a black sweater over the top, trying to be normal was never something that sat right with me, not like I'd ever get a chance of that.
I stare out in my own little world, checking the time once again...7:19 time seemed to go so fucking slow, I hear footsteps over the small hum of my music, I don't pay much attention, putting the lighter back into my pocket, not noticing that I'd been playing with it, I sigh once again, my foot still tapping along to the rhythm.
"Y'know that shit will kill you right?"
Says the voice, I turn ever so slightly, my dual-coloured white and slightly burgundy eyes making contact with the stranger, I make a mental note of the purple staring back at me.
"Maybe, but at least I can control that outcome."
I shrug slightly taking an ear bud out.
He raises his eyebrow amused for a second.
"Nice scar."
I look at him as he stares at me emotionlessly, the scar prominent but healed, on the left side of my face, large enough to be noticed but only if you want to be a prick, going from the end of my eyebrow to the top of my lip.
"Kinda rude don't you think? At least I don't look like I've slept rough, trouble at home?"
I challenge back to him.
He snickers as he puts his hands up in surrender, he does a once over taking note of my uniform. "UA? Same here, what class?"
I notice the change in his demeanour, and take account of the exhaustion written on his face, I lean back against the bus stop plastic wall.
"1A, you?"
He looked surprised for a moment.
"Same. I didn't see you at the entrance exam."
"Got in through recommendation." I say to him repeating what I'd been told to say the night before.
"Oh, you must be pretty powerful them, what's your quirk?"
I smirk slightly with a teasing tone "you'll just have to wait and see but from the likes of you I can sense that you have a mind control type of quirk."
He stills slightly, his resolve shifting.
"How do you know that?"
I smile sweetly
"just a guess."
He looks at me suspiciously before nodding "you're mysterious, I like that, you wanna get some coffee? I'm in need for caffeine before school."
I look at him for a second "I don't even know what to call you and you want to go and get coffee?"
He smiles slightly as he holds out his hand "Hitoshi shinso and yourself?"
I grasp his hand and shake it back
"Y/N"
He pauses "what no last name?"
"Nothing of importance."
He nods and I look at him before I interrupt the silence.
"Coffee sounds good, black two sugars if you're offering to pay"
He rolls his eyes before slowly leaving the bus stop, it's 7:29 and I see the bus coming down the road, I sigh before following him out.
"Maybe I should take it as a warning that you don't have milk in your coffee." He says suddenly
"Prefer the bitterness." I reply simply
He chuckles.
"Yeah I can tell.." he pauses before speaking again "what are you listening to?"
He motions to my remaining headphone in my ear.
"Smells like teen spirit." I say and offer him the other not currently in my ear.
He accepts and smirks, "I like you even more now."
———————————————————————
Flash forward - March 29th 2023
He looks at me, shock and hurt written on his face, it's silent between us both as we stare at one another.
I start to speak, the words on my tongue but he beats me to it.
"Don't. How could you fucking do this?!"
He shouts the last part making me wince, the corridors of UA becoming a ghost town due to recent events.
I stay quiet, looking away, ashamed.
"I trusted you. you were my friend.”
I turn and look at him harshly, tears threatening to fall.
"Well that was your mistake Hitoshi." I say quickly before taking a step towards him.
He steps back.
"I'm sorry." I try to reason with him.
"Those words mean nothing to me anymore, as far as I'm aware, you. are. dead. to. me."
The words cut through me like a knife would to a lamb but I know I deserve this, I nod once and step back, starting to turn away, I pause.
"Be careful, who knows what may be lurking in the dark."
I warn him, he's confused I can feel it, he looks away before opening his mouth to speak, but before he can say anything, I vanish, leaving him, cold, alone and betrayed.
————————————————————————
April 24th 2022
7:55am
The things I've learnt about Hitoshi Shinso in the 30 minutes that I've known him:
• he likes cats
• he's an insomniac
• he also likes his coffee black
• introverted
He's weird, but not in the 'I'll haunt you in your dreams' weird but in the sense that he doesn't like people, he's to the point, honest, in an embarrassing word he's cool.
I hold the coffee against both my hands, as we leave the coffee shop, it was busy mostly packed of other students excited to return or start their journey at UA.
'They're fucking eager' I think to myself as I subtly roll my eyes.
Hitsohi sees me doing this and shakes his head amused.
"Not a fan of people?"
He questions.
I look at him, "you could say that."
"Should I be honoured that you joined me on this beautiful morning?"
He asks sarcastically but with a hint of playfulness.
"Maybe." I say as I smirk at him.
Maybe in another life you both could have been friends, my brain points out, as I continue to glance at him.
"Do I have something on my face or am I just that handsome?" He teasingly asks me.
"Just wondering how you tame your hair in a morning." I glare slightly "it's like a birds nest on there"
He rolls his eyes, "Geez thanks for that, I'll keep that in mind."
I snicker.
“Sorry that came out insensitive.”
"It's fine, I'm also wondering why you've decided to go for the 'good girl French braids' this morning, as you are far from good."
He shoots back with his own smirk.
I raise my eyebrow
"how do you know about French braids?"
"I've got a sister"
he replies.
I smile slightly as I nod
"Oh, must be nice."
Is all I say as we continue our way to school.
We walk in comfortable silence, it's nice to not have the exhaustion of having to talk, I check the time 8:05am, 10 minutes until class starts, I feel some nervousness but shove it down.
Emotion is weakness, weakness is sin.
I breathe out as UA comes into view.
"You ready?"
I ask him.
He shrugs.
"I suppose, ladies first."
He says putting his arm out, insinuating that I entered through the gates before him.
I roll my eyes.
"You do realise there is literally enough room for the both of us."
He chuckles, "I'm just being nice."
"Come on you idiot, you'll make us late."
I say amused as I grab his arm and pull him through the crowds, we end up just outside the doors, I stop for a second to admire the building before looking at Hitoshi, we nod at each other before entering, making our way to the first official class of the day.
This, as it would come to be, the first day I met you
————————————————————————
So this is the first official chapter, it's a little slow I know but she'll be meeting Katsuki very soon ;)
Any ideas/guesses on what her quirk is?
Let me know your thoughts!

Jaws and Order
Oh, today's about Dark Light and Unholy! That's not an uninteresting combination. And hopefully that should ring a bell for some of you. If the name Bob Ezrin doesn't light up like a shiny little light bulb above your head by now, you should start giving some serious thought to your Kissialization.
To get down to business, I'll reveal the subject of the day: Song intros.
Of course, I'm concerned at this point that Dark Light and Unholy both have rather outstanding song intros by Kiss standards. These swelling, ominous rock and metal noise crescendos that seem to come out of nowhere. And let's be honest, we're all really into it, ain't we? I could of course also mention Detroit Rock City, but that wouldn't really apply because its intro works more like a radio play, but also happens to be produced by Bob Ezrin (1). And that could basically have been the end of this topic for today if my actual issue wasn't still outstanding.
I think it's safe to assume that the intro to Dark Light is inspired by the theme of Jaws, right? I think it would be foolish not to, just as this cinematic ingredient is of course Bob's doing, especially as there is no intro at all on Ace's Don't Run demo. But I chose Dark Light and Unholy for a reason, and that reason is of course that I strongly suspect that Unholy's intro would not have come about without Dark Light at all. Gene's shredding (2) on the demo also builds on Dark Light (and Jaws), it's just that it starts in the middle of the theme when everything is already in full swing. Bob's intervention last but not least gave it the epic dimension.
For me, dear people, this case is as clear as daylight: Without Jaws we probably wouldn't have gotten Unholy at all, who knows? But don't worry, I don't really want to go that far this time.
I'll be sending my acknowledgements to Steven Spielberg and John Williams anyway.
Side Note:
(1) And what about Hate? Or Psycho Circus? Well, that would be a not bad question, but ultimately, to my ears, both of them would fall into the category of themed sound collages with radio play elements. In Hate, Kiss are sitting in the rehearsal room babbling and turning up the amps before they get started, and Psycho Circus, well, gives us the impression of being in the middle of a fairground or circus … before Kiss gets started. But even in these two examples you can clearly see paraphrases of Ezrin's handwriting.
(2) Or Mister Vincent's. I can't really say for sure.

Talking about a few songs I associate with my favourite aonoex characters bc i enjoy shoving my music taste in people's faces and analysing the shit out of nothing <3
Recent chapter spoiler warning lessgo, also mentions of suicide tw
THE MAIN MANS HIMSELF
Tumblr media
Still feel - Half•Alive
"I am not a slave, so pick me from the dark and pull me from the grave"
In my mind, this is his themesong without a doubt. Its reached the point where wherever i hear it it makes me really happy because I associate it with him so strongly :,D might just be because I found it while getting back into the fandom when Ren was kinda transitioning to my favourite so they came up together but either way, absolute banger. The bit at the end when everything drops and the lead singer belts his heart out, I always love to picture Ren doing the same in the illuminati uniform with Yamatanka building around him and I've never wanted to learn how to animate more in my life cause my GOD he's so cool.
My favourite song for my favourite character <3
Preach - Saint Motel
"Oh im down on my knees, mercy"
Its so happy and bouncy?? And the vibes are immaculate?? Matches well with the themes of religion as well, this one definitely shows his flirty loverboy side more, it gives the impression of some lovestruck idiot stumbling over himself every time his crush does anything and honestly, sounds like something he'd do. Good song makes me go :))))
Your Love (Deja Vu) - Glass Animals
"You eat us up, you live like you're on camera"
I feel like this one captures his spy side a little more than the others. The lower notes in the main verses give a secretive feel, like he's halfway through a mission and trying trying stay silent. But it's also flirty in a more smooth way than wholesome crushes like the rest. The lead singer has such a gorgeous voice too i'll praise glass animals until the day i die 🥺🥺 God tier song god tier vibe 1000000/10
Do It All The Time - IDKHOWBUTTHEYFOUNDME
"Now we're so young but we're probably gonna die, it's so fun we're so good at selling lies"
Now THIS is a song for a spy working for a secret deadly organisation, all about world domination and having a great time doing it. Renzou is a free spirit and loves the freedom of his job, and this song really captures that for me. He knows he's in danger, but he's living his best life and he's having a great time doing it baybeeee B)))
Sweet Talk - Saint Motel
"You could yell 'piss off won't you stay away!' And still be sweet talk to my ears"
Ren is a persistent little shit when it comes comes crushes and this song shows it, a song about a guy who's so infatuated he doesn't care if he's hated or laughed at, he just loves hearing their voice. I see this as a bit of a yukishima anthem tbh, I feel like in the early stages of their relationship it would be pretty one sided with Shima trying to win him over and Yukio shutting him down so this matches that pretty well :>
Cant go five minutes without talking about them can i-
Honourable mentions-
Talk too much - COIN - very flirty and cheesy considered it as his themesong for a while
Toxic - Britney Spears - self explanatory :)
Razzmatazz - IDKHBTFM - everything they make shows his spy side imo, good for daydreaming
Van horn - Saint Motel -honestly anything by Saint Motel or Half•Alive reminds me of him, great bands :D
YUKIO MY BELOVED
Tumblr media
Yukio was weirdly a lot harder for me to find songs for. For Renzou i have a giant playlist I add to over time, supreme comfort playlist egegegeheh, but Yukio's is a lot shorter for some reason. I guess his vibe is a little difficult to get down but a while scrolling through my main playlist and I think I have a decent few that at least match his character development and plotline.
Stressed Out - Twenty one Pilots
"Out of student loans and treehouse homes we all would take the latter"
Pretty self explanatory really, mans was forced to grow up and mature way faster than he shouldve had to, having a high stress job by the age of 13 studying for two meister all while studying to be a normal doctor as well. Not much of a surprise he has so many mental issues by the beginning of the story. I dont listen to much TOP but the few songs I know seem to fit Yukio pretty nicely :)
Oh Klahoma - Jack Stauber
"Those aren't meant to bend, no those arent meant to bend"
Another song based on depression, but with a much quieter feel, much lower energy. I feel like this one more links to his tendencies of delf destruction, and how alone he feels as he faces his battle. Like he's singing into the void hoping for something to reply, but nothing will. Man :(
The Fall - Half•Alive
"I'd jump off and into your arms but i cant trust the fall"
I feel like this one highlight his story to Rin in a really realistic way. Yukio has a good heart, he's kind and wants to love his brother and open up to him he wants to get better. But he's so deep in his pit of depression and conflicting feelings over his brother that he can't bring himself to, he sees no way out. God I wanna write an analysis on his character so bAD-
Baby Hotline - Jack Stauber
"Numb, I've been burning with haste and I'm realising now it's a terrible waste"
We just keep getting darker huh, didn't pick very pleasant tunes for this boy did I. A bouncy, happy song about a girl calling a suicide hotline, lovely. But i feel like it describes his mental state pretty well, outside he seems ok. Sure Rin picks up that somethings off, but once Yukio assures him he doesnt really persist above asking him a couple times. But below the facade he's really reaching his breaking point, and I love how this song contrasts those two tones in a scarily natural way. Absolute banger
Fireflies - Gorillaz
"And if you say goodbye too many times, the sentinels will find me and switch me off this time"
One of my absolute favourite Gorillaz songs by far. The melody is so gorgeous, melancholic in the best kind of way. For Yukio I feel like it signifies how trapped he feels as Satan's son, he's hit his lowest point and he doesnt know how to start moving back up. But the song also has a hopeful feel to it, as if even though he feels lost, he will get better. In the recent chapters we see a moment of reconciliation between Yukio and the people around him, with Suguro forgiving him and tye two brothers finally getting a chance to to things out. Before everything went to shit lmaoo. But with that i really hope that after all the fighting is done, Yukio will finally get the chance to see how bad things have gotten, and reach out to get better. And this song shows that for me :D
Honourable mentions!!
Creature - Half•Alive - the first song I ever added to his playlist, there for sentimentality tbh
Cane shuga - Glass Animals - the plonky noises make the happy chemical go buckwild, not sure why it reminds me of him it just kinda does really
I Earn My Life - Lemon Demon - mans is overworked give him a break :( ngl i don't associate it with him much but i wanted to edge a lemon demon song in somewhere-
Dead inside - Younger Hunger - whenever I hear this I always imagine a really cool animation of him and it always plays out the same way and MAN I wanna animate so baDD
Absolute wordvomit woohoo, hypervocused on this instead if doing the assignment due this evening I'm a fantastic student. This was kinda fun tho!!! I might do other characters at somepoint, these guys are my favourites but i have a bunch of playlists for other characters like Amaimon and Shura, recommendations are welcome too!!

The Sound of Life - Chapter 13
Tumblr media
During that time they also spent a few days on the set of Phantom. Jessica Harper, who played Phoenix, showed them around. William Finley was busy with his headaches. Winslow met him in the cafeteria where the actor was sitting with an ice pack on his head. He was wearing the leather outfit, but no make-up and his hair was messy.
"Hi," Winslow greeted him.
"Hi," William replied with a weak smile. "Jeez, how did you survive that helmet?! It's killing me!"
Winslow laughed. "I didn't really pay attention to that."
William chuckled. "I can imagine that." He put the ice pack down and sighed. "So, how you been doing?"
"Quite well. I met Michael Jackson a while ago."
William raised his eyebrows. "Really? Awesome."
"And you?"
"Yeah, well, most of the time I've been shooting the stuff here." William laughed. "I hope I'll get it right. I tend to act rather dramatically."
"Well, I am drama in person, so don't worry about that." Winslow grinned. "What are you guys shooting today?"
"The Beef scene. Kinda controversial stuff."
Winslow raised an eyebrow.
"Of course we're all rooting for you, man," William quickly assured him.
Winslow smiled. "I haven't met your Beef yet. What's his name?"
"Oh, it's Gerrit. Gerrit Graham. Funny guy." William laughed. "The cast gave him the plunger as a Christmas present. We painted it gold."
Winslow laughed as well. "A golden plunger?! How many times did you shove that thing in his face during the shower scene?"
A smile spread on William's face. "Six times."
"Six times?!" Winslow laughed. "Oh dear."
"It was a lot of fun."
"Oh, I believe that." Winslow chuckled.
The door opened and Phoenix and Jessica came in. Phoenix was holding Melody.
"A baby!", William squealed as soon as he spotted them.
"You mean me or Leach Junior?", Jessica asked.
"The cuter one."
"That would be me," Phoenix said and sat down next to Winslow. She smiled. "Hi William. Cool costume."
"Thanks."
"You look like my Pa," Melody said.
William laughed. "I hope so!"
The door opened and another actor walked in.
"Hi Gerrit!", Jessica greeted him and Winslow turned around.
Gerrit did not quite look like Beef, but Winslow was secretly happy about that. He wasn't sure whether someone who actually looked the same wouldn't have triggered something in him.
"Stay away from me, I'm having a cold!", Gerrit announced. "Hi Mr Leach, Mrs Leach. I'm Gerrit Graham."
"Hi."
"Hi."
"Brian asked me to tell you guys to buy some junk food."
Jessica jumped up and did a little chicken dance. "Junk food night!"
"Hyping us up before the Life at Last scene," Gerrit explained.
"Sounds like Brian," William laughed.
"Put on your shoes, Will, we're going shopping!", Jessica yelled.
What followed was a bizarre scene that could have been straight from a comedy movie. The cast, still in their costumes, and the Leaches marched out of the Majestic. People turned around in surprise. Somebody yelled "Hey, look, it's Winslow Leach!" He signed a couple autographs and the squad entered the supermarket. They marched straight into the candy aisle.
Five minutes later they left with five bags full of crisps, popcorn, chocolate and cookies.
They watched the final product a couple weeks later in a small room with a projector at Paul Hirsch's. Melody was at Lucy's. Phoenix and Winslow didn't think the movie would be suitable for a seven year old. Brian brought popcorn. Gerrit brought Pepsi. They all sat down comfortably and Paul Hirsch clicked play.
The movie started with a narration about Swan read by Rod Serling. Winslow raised an eyebrow. "Wow. You actually got the guy to do this?"
"He loved it," Brian replied.
The black background with the white bird then faded into the Juicy Fruits performing Goodbye Eddie Goodbye. It was obvious they were enjoying themselves a lot. Winslow had a good laugh at William's face in the poster scene.
"The Juicy Winslow Leach at the piano," Phoenix commented and the crew laughed.
The movie proceeded with Philbin and Swan discussing some evil plan in their box.
"I actually have no idea what they were talking about," Winslow noted. "Might as well have been the weather."
"Probably not," Jeffrey commented.
Everyone agreed that the shot with the camera circling around William playing the piano was great. They had a good laugh about his dramatic headbanging.
"I was lucky my glasses didn't fly off," the actor chuckled.
The next scene was Philbin stealing Winslow's music. George Memmoli played his part really well. And Winslow laughed like crazy at the way William pushed "Philbin" against the wall and the sound of shattering glass in the background.
What followed was Winslow being thrown out of Death Records. Brian complained about the Swan Song fiasco with Led Zeppelin. Then came the scene in which Winslow met Phoenix. Both leaned forward.
"This is gonna be interesting," Phoenix commented. This was followed by a "Jessie, your singing is amazing, by the way."
"Thanks," Jessica smiled.
"Your chemistry is on top," Winslow noted during the scene. "Ten of ten."
Phoenix laughed at Jessica's confused face after William flashed her with "I would never let my personal desires influence my aesthetic judgement". "Yes, I probably looked like that!"
"You did," Winslow confirmed.
Later they had another good laugh at William in a flower dress trying to sneak in. "I wish I'd witnessed that happening!", Harold yelled. Then Paul appeared.
Winslow was honestly impressed. The friendly little man had perfectly embodied Swan. This guy who was frequently referred to as the Human Muppet had captured the evil spirit like he'd been destined to play Swan. Winslow shivered. He wasn't the only one.
"Was that really acting?", Archie asked.
"Hopefully," Jeffrey mumbled.
"I don't want to know what ancient evils we unleashed," Harold said.
Paul just laughed. "Who knows."
The next scene was the cops finding a beaten up Winslow. This was followed by William dramatically yelling into the camera that he was innocent.
"That was brilliant," Winslow commented. "Perfectly on point!"
"You have no idea how many shots this face took me," William replied.
Next up came some evil little man announcing that Winslow's teeth would be pulled. The real Winslow bared his teeth and pulled a werewolf number which caused some giggles.
The scene then faded into Winslow's escape from Sing Sing prison. William quickly told an anecdote about all the times the scene with the box had gone wrong while Winslow's on-screen counterpart raged through Death Records.
Winslow knew what was coming up now and so did Phoenix. He suddenly felt her hand in his and turned his head a little to see her giving him a little reassuring smile. He was well aware that she was afraid that the following scene would trigger something in him.
It didn't. William saved the day. As soon as he realized what a bomb was about to hit he burst out dramatically explaining how the scene had almost gone wrong and how he almost became Winslow's "Exact Doppelganger". Winslow objectively admired William's remarkable acting skills and secretly wondered why the actor wasn't famous yet.
The next scene caused Brian to explain why the split screen he'd used was a stroke of genius. The crew listened in amusement until the bomb exploded.
Next up came a bit with Swan in his office and then Winslow confronting him. The height difference between William and Paul was utterly hilarious. The scene was followed by Jessica singing Special to me for the audition. Everyone marveled at how similar her voice was to Phoenix'.
Then came the scene in which Swan adjusted Winslow's voice box and made Winslow sign the contract. Next up Paul singing Phantom's Theme with montages of William and Jessica with a black background. It looked wonderfully dramatic.
The next trigger came up now. It was Beef.
Thanks to the fact that Gerrit didn't look quite exactly like Beef Winslow relaxed again. However, he had to admit that accent and attitude were on point. Gerrit blushed when he told him.
There was the epic scream scene which caused Winslow's to have a laughing flash at the drama of William's acting. During the shower scene Gerrit mentioned that he did not recommend snorting powdered lactose. His acting in that scene and the next one were hilarious. Then Harold performed Somebody Super Like You followed by Life at Last and during Life at Last Winslow excused himself for a few minutes and left to prevent himself from getting a panic attack. He came back in to George Memmoli yelling "Somebody get a fire extinguisher!" and thoroughly enjoyed the Old Souls and dressing room scene, as well as the first rooftop scene. During the second rooftop scene Phoenix wrapped herself around Winslow, who made it a point to marvel at William's acting and compliment him on it until the actor was blushing.
What followed was Paul confronting William. Again everyone was crazed at how this human muppet played Swan. Then came the tape room and the wedding, and after a very dramatic death scene for Swan they got the ending which was slightly differing from reality: Winslow's death.
Phoenix laughed at how Jessica managed to look so desperate. "I just thought of school," Jessica commented. Winslow was delighted by the dramatic ending scene with the flaming bird sealing William's doom. "Awesome. Perfect. Like, really perfect. Great job."
"Release?", Brian asked.
"Hell yeah, release!"
