i've mentioned this before but—argh.

so i have this tendency to make layered backstories to the wips i'm writing/planning to write. which is, on paper, a good thing right? (heh, on paper). but in actuality, no, it's terrible, because the backstory ends up essentially...having so much material and impact on the 'main' story that really, it's a prequel. or not a prequel, but a first book in a series. only i don't want to write it. i want it to be backstory.

take my oracle wip for example. it's an isekai novel, where my MC ends up in another world and does a bunch of things and it all turns out terribly. however, where i want to start the book is post-culmination of all his horrible-no good-very bad-decisions. oracle wip is supposed to be the story of the fallout, of him suffering the consequences of his prev choices and trying to get revenge and go home and really, continuing to make terrible decisions but intentionally this time, because he's deeply messed up. i don't want to write about how it all went wrong...but the impact of how wrong it all went is lacking because it's currently all backstory.

the plot of the main storyline is 'MC wants revenge and to escape' and like. who cares? there's no emotional engagement because this is, to readers, an unknown character. and yes, i know writing for an imaginary audience right now is dumb, but i am also the audience. and though i know and care about my MC, I also...don't feel very fulfilled by the main plot. i know in my bones that the backstory needs to be actual story for it to hit the way i want it to hit.

but i don't wanna write it. and why don't i wanna write it? because....because it kinda feels tedious to me? or something????? i don't know why, but i suppose i feel like it's a bother to go through all the work of writing a story where everything goes wrong. not a bother but like....like a lot of work i don't want to sign up for? hm....am i actually intimidated about striking a balance between 'characters genuinely doing what they think is right' and 'unfortunately what they think is right is NOT' and also just uhhhh developing the characters and world and all, rather than just jumping in?

 —WAIT AM I TRYING TO WRITE A 'SEQUEL FIC' FOR MY OWN STORY WHICH DOESN'T YET EXIST?????

omg i totally am. the backstory is the 'canon' and oracle wip is my 'sequel fic' and i'm mad about having to write the CANON LMAO THIS IS HILARIOUS.

(explanation: i have been a semi-prolific fic writer for years and years, though i have always been trying to write og works. i just find fic way way easier).

Hmmm dates are really a treat because we rarely find time to just ourselves 💀 we have a list of both high energy and low energy date ideas that can include others or just remain a tango for two ..

High energy faves -> we love going to night clubs together, just anything that's got a fun vibe!! I think we're both pretty big party-ers, and we love a good hole-in-the-wall karaoke bar even though im a TERRIBLE singer 🤣 I think a lot of date nights go from "Let's be good and head home around 9" and then we both end up walking through the door at 4 am since we're just terrible about egging each other on with the good ol: "come on, just one more stop!"

Low energy faves -> This is when the week has just been. 'A Week' HAHA. This usually involved take out, saying we're gonna watch a movie and then 5 minutes in falling asleep on the couch. I think we also count giving each other haircuts a low effort date, anything that involves some good quality 1 on 1 time <3 BIG on self care nights, we both pick out a facial mask at the store, a couple of special food treats and share a couple smokes and do a hair mask... 😩🥂 UGH. NEED!!!!
