It seemed like clickbait at first, just another Holotuber desperate for their 15 minutes of fame. However, one particularly curious Rodian had clicked on the link while waiting for her lunch at Dex's and the opening lines of the holovid had immediately caught the attention of everyone in her vicinity.
“Hi everyone! I’m Jedi Master Kit Fisto and, with permission of course, I’m posting this to share some behind-the-scenes clips of the Jedi Council. Most of these are going to have no context, but that makes them funnier. So without any further ado, let me introduce our very own Master of the Order, Mace Windu without any context! Buckle up gentle beings, prepare to have your whole galaxy shaken.”
“Is this real?” A twi’lek whispered from beside her, his eyes impossibly wide. She shrugged. The Jedi were not exactly the most popular beings in the galaxy after all.
The first few seconds were nothing but a black screen before it began shaking and moved to show a round room filled with multiple chairs and large windows, which led to Coruscants skyline, indigo’s had begun to bleed to black. The camera panned to the right in which you could see a hologram of Shaak Ti and Kit Fisto curled up in his chair next to her. Briefly, Adi Gallia and Eeth Koth were in the shot.
Kit looked across the room with a shit-eating grin. “Dead Sifo-Dyas? More like kawaii desu baka Sifo-Dyas”
The camera quickly oved to the left to where Plo Koon had reared back in surprise. Master Yoda was letting out evil cackles while Mace Windu stared with a hard expression. “Blocked” He threw his hands in the air.
Chuckles and Kit’s pleads filled the room as the camera flipped to show the filmer to be Saesee Tiin. He grinned. “Council Session number 21: Kit Fisto gets fucking Removed from the Jedi Order.”
The clip stopped and went to a rainbow screen.
The Twi’lek giggled beside her, his green skin flushing a bit. “Wonder what else is in there?” hey shared a look.
The rainbow screen cut to a pair of fuzzy socks padding their way through a hall to a dimly lit kitchen. The sound of kitchen utensils echoed as the filmer peeked around the corner. A chrono displayed the time as 4:12 AM, the year set as 48 BBY. A younger Mace milled around the kitchen in a simple amethyst purple sweater and earbuds. His head bopped softly as me mixed whatever he was making in the bowl.
A young voice came from behind the camera. “Master… what are you doing?”
Mac looked up and removed an earbud. “Making chocolate pudding.”
The filmer now known as Depa Billaba made small noise. “It is four o clock in the morning, why on earth are you making chocolate pudding?”
Mace shrugged with a smirk. “Because I’ve lost control of my life.”
Depa snorted and the camera flipped to show a 16 year old Depa wearing a matching smirk.
A young Mon Calamari cooed and pointed to a drawing on the wall signed DB. “Aren’t they the cutest? He looks like such a proud dad.”
Another clip began playing, this time it was set during the afternoon, the sun shone through the council chambers windows. The camera panned to show the worried faces of each council member present. Only one seat was empty. A few council members were whispering to each other in concern, eyes constantly going to the doors or the seat. The doors creaked open to reveal Mace rubbing his eyes.
Adi rose a brow and chuckled a bit. “How long have you been asleep?”
Mace yawned and slumped in his seat. “I was awake for two hours on Tungsday”
Adi frowned. A couple muffled “Oh Shit’s” came from the other Jedi. “That doesn't answer my question... You know its Primeday, right?”
Mace’s reply was cut off.
“That’s…. very concerning.”
The Mon Calamari nodded. “Sounds like a mini coma to me.”
That didn’t exactly bode well for the Jedi if they only got rest from sleeping in coma’s.
The camera shook as the filmer seemed to adjust its setting before flipping up to show a med bay where injured clones were resting. Mace was pacing while Obi-Wan Kenobi sat cross-legged on a bed. “Look at me, okay? I can’t eat, I can’t sleep. I’m a wreck!”
Obi-Wan smirked a bit but rose an eyebrow.
Mace sighed. “I mean, sure I still look good, but that’s just genetics.”
The camera panned to where a clone in armour with purple paint sighed and shook his head like a friend watching their friend get back with their ex for the 50th time. “General please.”
Another Rodian snickered at the clone’s plight.
The camera cut to where Mace and Saesee were laying on their backs, Mace had his legs propped against the wall of the council chambers while Saesee had starfished beside him. “What did we learn, Master Tiin?”
Saesee grunted and shrugged. “I have no idea”
Mac sighed. “I don't fucking know either. I guess we learned notto do it again.”
Saesee nodded serenely. “Yep.”
Mace dragged his hands down his face. “I'm fucked if I know what we did.”
“Yes, it's hard to say.”
Mace blew out a breath. “Jesus Fucking Christ.”
The Rodian laughed as the clip cut itself off. “OH goodness, I thought Jedi weren’t allowed to feel emotion?”
The camera cut to a small group of Masters sitting in a room full of waterfalls and plants: children could be hear giggling in the distance. A small title in the upper corner of the screen read. The Room of A Thousand Fountains.
Eeth was sitting with his arms planted in the grass behind him. “Let’s play truth or dare.” Mace was laying in the grass beside him. He shrugged. “I’ll play.” Eeth grinned. “Truth or Dare?” Mace hummed. “Truth.” “When was the last time you slept?” Mace blinked. “Dare…” “I dare you to go to bed.” “I hate this game.” Suddenly a large cloak was thrown over Mace and one Plo Koon was there the next, a vehement “SLEEP” hissing out of his mask.
The clip stopped.
The Twi’lek blinked. “I-is that a regular occurrence in the temple?”
A dark room filed with a large holoscreen and multiple Jedi appeared after the previous one. Mace was staring at Anakin Skywalker. He pinched the bridge of his nose with a sigh. “I'd like to offer you some friendly advice.”
Anakin frowned at him and shook his head. “I don't need your help.”
“Consider it unfriendly advice then, dipshit.”
The clip cut off.
The next video was of Mace walking out of the council chambers. “Do not come over to my house. If the house is on fire you may knock once, if I don’t answer assume I set the fire and I want to burn to death.”
“MACE NO-”
The clip stopped.
The Rodian stammered. “D-do they get therapy? Do they have time for therapy!?”
Hysterical laughter could be heard as the camera shook. “Mace when did you become such a comedian?” The camera moved to show Mace.
“I'm naturally funny because my life is a joke”
It suddenly cut to show Depa sneaking up behind Mace with a grin. She held up a finger to her lips before jumping to cover Mace’s eyes with her hands.
“Guess who!?”
Mace startled and reared back slightly. “It’s either my former Padawan or the cold, clammy hands of death.” The filmer snorted.
“It’s Depa!”
“Dammit.”
“He sounded genuinely disappointed then.”
The video was shorter with Mace sitting in The Halls Of Healing. “Master Windu you need better self-care habits.” A Twi’lek was admonishing.
“Self-care is drinking 20 cups of Caf and Lightsaber Dueling a Sith Lord.”
The Twi’leks sigh was longsuffering.
The Rodian blinked as the video ended, the next one already loading.
The Mon Calamari whistled. “The Jedi are…. Different to what I expected.”
The Rodian nodded.
“Yeah…”

MCU Loki: Speculations on the “Loki” series
So, for the fun of it I’m gonna speculate on the whole “Loki” series.
For start Time Variance Authority.
In the comic the TVA seems to represent the lawful alignment. It doesn’t mean it will do the same in the “Loki” series, Marvel sometimes change things but let’s pretend they left this unchanged.
Before you start thinking this is a good thing, let’s remember the lawful alignment doesn’t define the moral axis of something, merely the ethical one. General Thunderbolt Ross and the Krees can be considered as lawful as Captain America and Rhodey, only the first two are lawful evil while the last two are lawful good.
Karl Mordo in “Doctor Strange” instead moves from lawful good to lawful evil.
For the TVA what matters are the rules. They are, of course, sure that respecting the rules is a good thing, and if this requires to wipe out an entire temporal line… well, no problem of theirs.
In short the TVA are your sort of guys who might decide that no, the Avengers shouldn’t have gone back in time and hamper with the timeline and save half of the universe because… it’s against their rules.
Here they seem worried that Loki has changed things. I would argue that it’s the Avengers that went back in the past and change things but let’s explore what it means if Loki didn’t met up the same fate as the one of the ordinary timeline.
Well, for start the Bifrost doesn’t get repaired as Thor used the Tesseract to repair it.
This might mean that, for start the Nine Realms will have to do without Asgard’s protection but, in more MCU terms that Thor won’t be able to go back home. There’s to wonder if he’ll manage to make peace with Jane and reach for her when she will be possessed by the Aether.
If he doesn’t, as a result, the Aether can fall more easily in Malekit’s hands, who will attack Earth directly instead than Asgard.
We might not end up having Thanos because the Dark Elves win and wipe away people themselves, turning the whole series in a variation of “War of realms”.
Okay, no, I don’t think we’ll get “War of realms” but it’s a pity.
What I wonder if the fact that they have Loki and Moebius interact is because one is chaotic and the other is lawful and the theme of the story is going to be this.
Chaotic again, isn’t necessarily evil, it only means you don’t respect the rules.
Scott Lang from “Ant-Man” is chaotic good for example. The Vulture from “Spider Man Homecoming” is chaotic evil.
Same as Karl Mordo Loki tends to change his moral axis at need. Prior to “Thor” he’s chaotic good, in “The Avengers” he’s Chaotic evil, in “Avengers: Infinity War” he’s back on being Chaotic good again.
So the whole show can open the discussion of how respecting or not rules should be tied to moral values. We shouldn’t respect a law aimed at hurting others… but we shouldn’t break law carelessly either as there will be consequences.
For example…. There’s a scene showing Loki in Pompeii.
Should the people in the city be warned mount Somma (yeah, it’s mount Somma which erupted, what will remain of it after the eruption will be named Vesuvius) is about to erupt and therefore saved or should we let them all die because, after all, their death is kind of already happened from Loki and Mobius perspective?
It’s a question that, in a way, was opened and ignored in “Avengers: Endgame”. The Avengers decide to save all the people that were blipped away by Thanos… but what about the ones he killed previously?
The half of Asgardian refugees, Heimdall, Loki, the dwarves on Nidavellir, the people on Xandar he wiped away to get the power stone, the people that die in the battle of New York, that was still caused by Thanos even if he didn’t oversee it personally, Gamora’s family and people?
Thor arrives in Asgard and is forced to face that most of the people there will be dead… would it have been really bad if he warned them against Hela so that more could survive? If he saved his mom and then asked her to find an alternate way to get the same ending with the Dark Elves only this time it doesn’t include her dying?
It’s questions worth making because they touch our moral axis as, if we do nothing, we let those people die/dead.
For a greater good? How can we know the result and for who’s the greater good? For us?
So anyway this has the potential to be cool, because when the lines on the moral axis blur and you don’t know anymore if something is good or evil, the decisions are taken by the ethical axis.
And someone lawful would just say ‘the law says so therefore letting those people die has to be the good choice’ while someone chaotic would say ‘screw the law, it can’t be good, I’m gonna save my mom and worry about consequences later’.
And this is awesome material for a story.
Though, of course, they can also take inspiration from “Agent of Asgard” in which old Loki, despite thinking that nothing would change even if Loki were to try to be good, still changed the past so that Loki could have a better chance at life and could make a more informed decision in the end.
(the scene of Loki’s decision is “Agent of Asgard” is AWESOME and way better than whatever redemption arc the MCU came up with by the way so I’m all to get that if they do the appropriate work)
Going on.
In the comics Mobius is a bureaucrat, cloned for his job and who knows nothing else but it.
Of course Marvel can portray him differently but let’s assume they’ll run with this.
So it can be that for Mobius everything is just ‘data’ and people are merely ‘entities’ and this not because he’s evil but because that’s how he has been taught to live.
He studied all of Loki’s life, but that’s it, for him they probably were data, not someone’s life, just a list of facts with no emotional value attached.
Studying Loki’s life is a job, and he might dedicate to it with the same mind setting of a student studying Caesar’s life.
He might not stop to wonder how painful the stabbing was, how horrible it could have been to see that his son was among the stabbers, how desperately he attempted to protect himself as he tried to flee and how brutal the others were as they continued to stab him even when he fell and lay there defenceless.
All he might care for is he died in 15 March 44 BC, attacked by around 60 men and stabbed 23 times, one of the stabs given by Brutus and that’s it. And then on March 15th put on Tumblr a stabbed Caesar salad and joke on his death because, by now Caesar is no more viewed as a person, just as a historical record.
For Mobius Loki might be just a record and even if Loki sits in front of him, he’s no more than data and someone to use. If Mobius gets an arc in which he develops he might learn to view Loki as a person, which doesn’t necessarily mean he’ll stop being lawful.
He might learn to feel sorry for him but still say ‘but the law says this is it’ or he might shift his ethical axis.
It would still be an interesting plot.
And for Loki too there’s potential for things to be interesting because he might, for once, to feel in control.
Most of Loki’s life is dictated by him not being in control.
He didn’t get to decide to be a Frost Giant, picked up by Odin, raised by an Asgardian and revealed the truth too late. He didn’t get to decide to be the less favoured son and he came to believe nothing he would do would make him worthy in Odin’s eyes. He was sent by Thanos to conquer Earth, manipulated by the sceptre. And now the TVA has captured him and they’re forcing him to cooperate.
If he’s given the power to affect the past he might grow to believe he’s actually not forced to submit to other people’s choices but that he’s in control of his fate.
It’s part of the point of “Agent of Asgard”.
Old Loki came to believe no matter what he did, he couldn’t change things, he would always be the ‘god of lies’, but the Loki of “Agent of Asgard” instead decided he would be something else and became the master of his own fate.
It would be a good development.
Of course, I’ve not the slightest idea if Marvel will go according to this route.
There’s really too little to judge and I’ll admit I won’t like it much if the point is not so much to save Loki but save Lady Loki because, no offence to Lady Loki who might have an even worse past than Loki, but it’s Loki the character I grew to love and I wish would be saved.
Last but not least, as I feared the whole ‘You've literally stabbed people in the back like fifty times’ quote produced a lot of discussing when it shouldn’t have.
Like, we miss most of the content but, from the look of it, it’s not like Loki, on his own, decided to pay a visit to the TVA and to help them. They captured him, he even though they wanted to kill him, they very likely forced him to cooperate.
Now, in this case any guy with an ounce of brain does what Tony did when he was held captive by the Ten Rings and they asked him to build them weapons if they don’t want to end tortured or killed. They say ‘yes’, gain their trust and then build a Iron-Man suit behind their back with whom they can stab them. In the back, yeah, because that’s what people with a modicum intelligence and no magic hammer should do with guys who overpower them and held them captive.
It’s a basic survival skill, not a proof you’re untrustworthy. People don’t own captors to be trustworthy to them and this message must never be allowed to pass.
You has to be trustworthy with people who deserve it, not with people who force you to be subservient.
So yeah, I hope Loki will stab the TVA in the back because no matter how lawful an righteous they feel, they clearly impose to everyone their law and no matter how much they claim they make the world better, they’re clearly sacrificing people.

Perpetual Motion
“A place where there isn't any trouble. Do you suppose there is such a place, Toto? There must be. It's not a place you can get to by a boat or a train. It's far, far away. Behind the moon, beyond the rain...” It’s at about that point that Dorothy starts singing about a perfect place, a land beyond the rainbow, full of bluebirds and lemon drops, where dreams come true and everything is just peachy keen. Dorothy, in a way, is defined by the way she sets her sights on the horizon, and that same tendency emerged in the self-portraits that I chose for the first part of this project. Each person was defined by movement—through either time or space—but always towards an end goal of happiness; each of my three themes dealt with different ways in which people tried to find that happiness.
My first section, entitled “Personal Lives—Personal Loves” was at first meant just to be about ineffable and often obsessive loves, but as I read and reread the snippets, another aspect moved to the forefront—each person who talked about this thing they love, be it a song or a movie or a book, they seemed to shy away from really owning their opinion. “I don’t think this song would have the same reaction with anyone else. Or that anyone else would get it the way that I get it. I don’t mind that people don’t get me or get the things I get” (Trevino) and “When I explained it to my boyfriend, he said I was crazy, which was utterly correct” (Wallen) are prime examples of this attitude, an attitude that springs directly from our increasing use of the internet as a means of communication—platforms like Twitter and Facebook especially—and our newfound ability to constantly change and edit our opinions. I was taken in by the same need: in my original draft of my first self-portrait, I ended my story of obsessive love on a “this probably makes me sound crazy” note. “Unlike newspapers, which would eventually publish corrections in a box of printed spinach far from the original error, bloggers had to walk the walk of self-correction in the same space and in the same format as the original screw-up” (Sullivan), and the same goes for anything you post on a social media platform.
“Success in the Electronic Present requires the ability to adapt instantly and to be multifaceted” (Butt), and part of that is a certain distance from opinion; as Liz Gilbert would say, “You have to stay mobile, movable, supple. Slippery, even” (Gilbert). If you stand by your love for, say, Evanescence during a goth phase in high school, with no hedging or prevarication, when you later decide that really, black is not your color, odds are you’ll be hit by a barrage of comments about why you have suddenly changed so much. However, if that love had been couched in terms of “it’s stupid but I love it,” that love would be much easier to run away from later. On the one hand, our culture of personality rewards passionate displays of feeling, but on the other hand, the need to be approachable and likeable when writing about yourself makes it hard to allow for loving something too much.
There is also, of course, the movement between different emotional states—the Oprah narrative of hardship, overcoming hardship, and becoming a stronger, better, happier, more complete person through that mastery of hardship. I once was lost, but now I am found, and in the future I will find many more things. My exhibition explored this idea in the middle section entitled “Everything Is Okay—Comparatively,” and I feel that “comparatively” is the most important word in that title. As my dad likes to say when I complain about difficult times in my life, “If I hadn’t been there, I wouldn’t be here.” Happiness is inherently relative—strawberries taste much better when they aren’t Brussels sprouts. As Elise wrote in her second self portrait, “But that’s just it. I’m only 22. As long as I don’t do anything stupid, I have plenty of life ahead of me to accomplish the goals I have for myself…I’ll have my own version of happily ever after” (Cho).
This attitude is reflective of much of what Butt claims in the Xena essay; we are constantly remaking ourselves, constantly in motion—like sharks, we die if we stop swimming. “In the episodes immediately preceding ‘The Way,’ Xena is tormented by the question of whether she has followed, and is following, the right path in her life. In ‘The Way,’ she learns from Hanuman that for each person there is only one ‘way,’ but once found, that way can be applied to be successful in any situation” (Butt). Life is a path, and we know how far we’ve come by looking back at where we’ve been, and the choice of so many people to define themselves through that movement is interesting. Even if they were trying to avoid the travel narrative trope, movement still worked its way into their portraits. Chronological narration is easy to digest—it’s expected, and just as the new Timeline feature of Facebook conveniently organizes so many random snippets into a coherent narrative, it is easy to define the self in that same movement through time.
What I find most compelling about this is the tendency to frame happiness as not a static point but as a pause on a continuously moving path. As I noted in part one, the “pursuit of happiness” is something America was founded on. Not having happiness, living within happiness, possessing happiness—pursuing happiness, as if it exists somewhere over the rainbow. “That’s why I like this song, I feel like there’s something perfect just out of reach, but I’m coming up on it” (Trevino). Just as the impossibility of the existence of a utopia exists within the very structure of the word, none of the self-portraits I read claimed a perfect happiness, or a state of happiness that could be inhabited permanently. Happiness is a project, a hobby, but also an acceptance of the current state of affairs—and why not, if you are constant coming up on “something perfect” on the horizon? In a very Taylorist move, happiness has become something to be accomplished efficiently and in small, sensible steps.
Another way in which my collection of self-portraits incorporated definition through movement was in the classic travel narrative, the Gilbertian story arc of self-discovery, the constant search for that perfect somewhere on the horizon.“The iconography…places the viewer in the position of the tourist who, in Dean McCannell’s words, “simply collects experiences of difference (different people, different places)” and “emerges as a miniature clone of the old Western philosophical subject, thinking itself unified, central, in control, etc., mastering Otherness and profiting from it” (Nakamura). Just as getting some distance from a problem allows you to see it more clearly, getting distance from familiar surroundings can allow you to see yourself more clearly: self-identification through what you are not. The assumption that travel will change you is inherently problematic, at least as far as I see it. As a friend of mine said, “Even if you go to India or France or whatever, it’s still the same person in France or India that was in Seattle.” Travel will only change you if you want it to, and even then, arguably that change could have happened without the traveling. Toward the end of the conversation, the same friend remarked “Travel if you want. Sure, maybe it’ll change you. But traveling just because you want to ‘find yourself’ is dumb.”
Another attitude that I feel is prevalent is the idea that somehow moving to a different place will make you happier. If you are unhappy in a place, clearly the place is at fault—and the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence, so why not climb over and live a better life? “In the figurative sense, this is a border that is always moving—as you advance forward in your studies and realizations, that mysterious forest of the unknown always stays a few feet ahead of you, so you have to travel light in order to keep following it.” (Gilbert).
To lean on an impressively over-quoted line, “be the change you wish to see in the world,” but then take it a step further: become the change you wish to see in yourself. The constant remaking of the self that is required in our Electronic Present is like aiming at a constantly moving target—but if all of these explorations of the self have illustrated anything, it is that that remaking must be an internal choice, without relying on the crutch of travel. The prevalent cure culture of this country these days leads to the commonality of self-definition through a quest for happiness and self-improvement, and “along the way we generate more options, more opportunities, more connection, more diversity, more unity, more thought, more beauty, and more problems. Those add up to a more good, an infinite game worth playing” (Kelly). At the end of her journey, as she is about to click her heels together and “no place like home” herself back to Kansas, the Tin Man asks Dorothy what she’s learned from everything that happened. She looks thoughtful for a moment, and then gives her answer in her halting, accented voice: “Well, I - I think that it - it wasn't enough to just want to see Uncle Henry and Auntie Em - and it's that - if I ever go looking for my heart's desire again, I won't look any further than my own back yard. Because if it isn't there, I never really lost it to begin with! Is that right?”

    ‘A child has lost some thing and has to reclaim it before their abusive over involved parent to find out,’ (well it has been done slightly better not good, with slightly more realistic children, who didn’t have personalities) was dead upon arrival [Stale]
   How to make it better?
   Have it be    Obi-Wan and Anakin
    Obi-Wan already shown to be a bit of a control freak and overly scrutinizing of Anakin‘s actions
     Causing          Anakin to have such an over emotional reaction         [obi-Wan still around]
  Or      (And the story can still work with Ahsoka]
  Have Anakin show those tendencies;
   Possibly replicating Obi-Wan‘s behavior
    Or
     just being a dick
     And at some point has given us so got a ‘never lose your light saber’ order paired (possibly) with a, ‘find the thing that you lost,’
       Leading to Ahsoka emotionlessly          searching for the light saber
       The tension coming from the audience’s knowledge of what           can happen to her
