First time in ages that an NWSL game has been at a reasonable time in my timezone and I'm free!

Just so happens it's Bouhaddi and Marozsan's first game with OL Reign as well - looking forward to it!

what are your nwsl predictions?

Hmm this is really tricky because we don't have a large pool of games to decide how the season will go. But I like this because at the end of the season I can reference this to see how off I was lol. Given what we've seen now and the potential of teams both on the roster and on the field, my predictions are:

Rankings:

Portland Thorns (GD of at least 5 or more).

NC Courage.

OL Reign.

Gotham FC.

Houston Dash.

Chicago Red Stars (or 7th).

Orlando Pride (or 6th)*.

Washington Spirit.

Louisville Racing FC.

Kansas City FC.

*I truly think that the Pride could be in contention for the 6th seed IF Ash and Ali are not called up to the Olympics AND Marc develops his rookies/offense (esp. Kornieck; she has a lot to offer if coached properly). It’s a very tall order, but if they put their head down and work, it could produce something. If these two conditions aren’t met, likely Pride will be 8th or 9th seed maybe. Chicago needs big things from Pugh and Watt if they’re gonna make the championships in my opinion, and this is where I think Syd and Kornieck could take care of business granted the Pride have enough support and gas to make it work. 

Final: Thorns vs. Courage OR Reign (Thorns win by 1-2 goals).

Golden Boot: Debinha or Kristie Mewis; whoever doesn’t win is runner-up.

GK of the Year: AD Franch; Runner Up: Kailen Sheridan or Ashlyn Harris.

MVP: Crystal Dunn; Runner Up: Midge Purce or Sam Mewis.

Rookie of the Year: Trinity Rodman; Runner Up: Emily Fox or Taylor Kornieck.

Coach of the Year: Mark Parsons; Runner Up: Freya Coombe.

Defensive Player of the Year: Sam Staab; Runner Up: Becky Sauerbrunn.

For some spicy, bold (unrealistic but maybe possible) predictions:

Louisville makes the playoffs by climbing the ranks during the Olympic window; they’re a feisty young team and show a surprising amount of chemistry for an expansion team that is underrated and definitely something worth watching out for as the season goes on.

Gotham pull a reverse Uno and make it to the final by ousting the top-seeded team like Portland in the semi-finals, and subsequently win the championship. They have a stellar keeper and a great backline and the queen Midge Purce to given them an attacking advantage.

Houston start out strong but drastically fall once the internationals are gone (esp. Daly, Mewis, and Campbell). They may fall even as much to risk getting knocked out of a playoff spot by Louisville or Orlando.

Chicago doesn’t make the playoffs, and is ousted by Orlando. All CRS have really done to try and fix their offense is add Mal Pugh, but if she is gonna get called up, they’ll be screwed without Naeher, Ertz, and Davidson. Honestly, they are gonna have a tough road ahead of them.

OL Reign wins the championship. Their line up looks too good to be true at the moment and they could take it all if they can build good chemistry with their international players. Though the Olympic window will call on King to lead the front line and give the Reign a fighting chance.

The new owners of the Orlando Pride fire Marc Skinner mid-season, hire a better coach that actually gets work done, and the Pride sail through to the finals vs. Portland. Sydney Leroux scores the game winning goal off an assist from Marta. Ashlyn Harris wins Goalkeeper of the Year and WOSO Twitter riots. Vlakto resigns from being USWNT head coach.
