Digimon Hunters was such a brilliant love-letter to the series so far, and it's a massive shame it was never dubbed into English. I know a lot of people didn't like it, but it was so exciting seeing all the previous Goggleheads (and Masaru) on that boat.

The owner looked at him from his chair, and put both hands on the table.

“Dude,” the visitor then approached and slammed his hands on the same table, “I can’t live here forever! You said something depends on those kids and that they will help me find him but…”

“Don’t lose your patience, Lance my boy...”

“Sigh… Right, sir. But like I said I can’t keep playing the babysitter role forever. I have my own life. And I have this mission to find--”

“Yes, I know. But first you need to form an alliance with Kudou Taiki. Isn’t it the right moment for that, boy?”

“That won’t work! He will think I’m a creep!! And you said I can be caught so--”

“Yeah, sorry to butt in but he’s right!” the voice from Lance’s XrosLoader spoke. 

“Then, you have to wait a little more.”

“E-enough with that ominous talk! Tell me what you’re hiding, why do you want me to form an alliance with those kids!”

“... Do you want the truth?”

“Yeah, my bud and me want the truth, right?” And he showed the XrosLoader to the man.

“Riiiiiiight! We must know everything! If you want our help tho.”

“Alright… We will tell you the truth.”

I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THIS WOULD END UP BEING, but i think it's because i forgot and well, this is too old already... It was in my drafts, probably i was writing this for the LXW AU Little Story Fragments project.

i am happy with who i am but i am also deeply envious of my eight year old younger brother, who's always had a skill and interest in a thing that's very easy to make a career out of, so he just went straight into the specialized schools straight into a job... and i've kept flopping around like a fish on land with no idea what i'm going to do this whole time. maybe i'm just bitter that i HAVE a skill i'm passionate about and really good at, but there's basically no infrastructure for turning it into a decent, stable job. sighs

Still, there wasn't really MUCH the little ex - bellboy could do than LISTEN as the man sat slumped over at Shush's counter on his fifth glass of At Least We Gather for Now. This was an improvement over Mister Sunday's first night on the train. Garth had downed SO MANY glasses of Shush's Rustic Special that day. He was fairly certain that the drink had only a little bit of alcohol and was ninety - nine percent DIESEL FLUID.

Reparing a Verge Watch

I recently repaired this english verge watch c1800. Like most watches of its age it had a laundry list of problems:

The click in the fusee was worn to the extent that it slipped, causing the cain to come of and quite possibly fly around the watch.

The screw securing the balance cock was missing, the balance was loose in the case. Presumably someone had been in the watch before me and lost it.

The balance staff was bent, see above.

The hairspring was very badly bent, see above.

One of the case hinges had a broken pin, a corresponding dent in the back of the case suggests it was dropped.

A lot of the steel parts had significant rust, including the fusee chain.

The repair is detailed below:

The Click

The hardest part of the repair was making a new click. The worn click was no more than 2mm long in any dimension and made of 0.5mm thick spring steel with a 0.55mm pin protruding from one side. I started with a small piece of 0.6mm spring steel which I drilled a 0.5mm hole in.

I changed the design of the click from the original in a few ways:

Made a notch for the click spring. The click spring had been bent inwards by a previous repairer and I didn't want to bend it back in case it broke by fatigue*.

Added a second tooth, totally unnecessary but there was space, it should last longer and it makes it obvious that its not an original part (I wanted it to be clear to anyone taking apart this watch in future which parts are original and which are replacements).

Increased the length of the 'heel' because there was space.

After shaping the part I enlarged the hole with a broach until a taper pin in it was a good sliding fit with the hole in the fusee.

I filed the pin flush and polished the faces of the teeth with a very fine oilstone. Here is the new click installed with my thumbnail for scale.

The Case Hinge

One half of the broken hinge pin was easy to drive out with a punch but the other half was stuck fast so I dissolved it in alum. I made a replacement pin from short length of spring steel wire shaped into a taper using a file.

The Rest

Everything else was pretty standard watch overhauling and is not that interesting. I have attached a picture of the hairspring before being straightened out just to show how bad it was; it took several hours to get into a useable shape. It is beyond me why anyone would leave the balance cock rattling around in a watch.

The watch now runs although it is currently gaining 10min/hr, probably due to wear on the crown wheel and palates.

*I know I could have annealed it but I wanted to do as little as possible to the watch to preserve it as much as possible.

Tremblay

Tremblay's watch is a luxury piece. Probably a Tudor Style Fluted Bezel 41mm.

An uncommonly plain watch from Tudor. The clean face and delicate fluted bezel makes this a popular choice for people who want a luxury watch that just looks nice. it’s the newest and most expensive watch among our Conclave cardinals.

My watch friend knew he was corrupt the moment he saw the metal bracelet.

'Metal bracelets always cost more. You wear metal bracelets outdoors. If someone is wearing one indoors, they want you to notice them.’

eta: What does this tell us about his character? watch friend: nothing. He’s a basic bitch.

Tedesco

Tedesco's watch might be a ✨vintage 1960 Oris 671 KIF✨ (or a Clues Triomphe. We cannot agree.)

It's so generic-looking, we thought it was a Daniel Wellington at first.

A watch that one buys because of how it looks. The person wearing it hasn't seen much of the world and thinks this is what class and luxury looks like.

But then my friend clocked the bevel and alligator strap. Nevertheless, Oris is old and traditional / conservative and boring to the point of being generic. That's why it left no impression. It's devoid of character.

Oris is undeniably quality Swiss watchmaking, 'but it's easy to forget they exist because they're not creative. They don't experiment outside their comfort zone.'

My friend adds that "Anyone with a decent-paying job can save enough to buy an Oris in their lifetime. It sits somewhere above a Tissot, but below a Tudor. "

Additional note: like Tremblay, Tedesco's watch has a black dial, projecting an image of refinement, quiet confidence and charisma.

Bellini's Seiko Dolce is actually swankier than Lawrence's battered Orient Bambino

The Orient Bambino is the good sourdough passed down through generations by grandma, recipe unchanged.

Seiko Dolce is that good sourdough from that one niche bakery in the cool part of the city and you can't get it anymore because it's limited edition.

The watches in the movie are worn upside down

A clear example is when Lawrence tears open his toiletries at night.

If Lawrence's watch is worn correctly in the screenshot, it means he loses his temper with his toiletries at 6.30p.m.

But the scene that precedes this was so dimly lit, it had to be late at night. As late as, say, midnight...

The more obvious clue is the crown (the dial). It's facing the wrong way.

We don't know why.

I can only guess that a wardrobe assistant put the watches on for the actors and accidentally tied them as if they were wearing the watches themselves.

He simply couldn't just drink the beverage without an honorary toast.

Huh. What a weird thing to hear from the child - or maybe he just thought that since there was always a part of him that was aware of who they truly were. When you're mad in the shop, you're not doing good work. Put your tools down, and go do something else. Good advice. It'll save you a lot of grief, broken parts, and painful mistakes. Problem is, if you were the kind of person to listen to "good advice," you wouldn't be in the shop. You'd be off getting gratified with some much easier hobby, like doing cocaine or setting yourself on fire in a religious protest.

For years, I thought that getting insanely angry at small problems in the shop was just part of being, well, in the shop. It's normal to lose the tool you just had in your hand five minutes ago. It's understandable to throw a wrench at the garage door when you break a brake fitting off. And it's certainly perfectly fine to scream at a bolt that you can't reach until you pass out from pure rage, only to wake up a few minutes later and do it all over again. That's why this hobby is so enjoyable when things actually work.

I thought that it was normal, because that's how everyone I grew up around dealt with difficult mechanical problems. Rage and grit. Stick to it, and don't let it be the boss of you. Then I had to quickly go to Switzerland, for reasons that I cannot legally elaborate upon. There, I began a new life. I met a Swiss watchmaker, Nils, who liked to work on clocks in his spare time. We started to hang out.

I never saw Nils get mad. Even when he shot the world's tiniest one-off spring into his carpet, a hundred-year-old treasure never to be seen again, he would just sit down and start making a new one. Sometimes, he would even start fixing my mistakes, after seeing how mad I was getting. I began to feel embarrassed at my childlike attitude.

Finally, our time together had to come to an end, when I fled his idyllic mountain village in order to evade Interpol. Nils may be gone from my life, but his lessons remain. Now, when I bash my hand into a razor-sharp, rusty heat shield while trying to remove the last fucking exhaust bolt, I just go inside. Then I swear really loud at some clocks instead. Makes me feel better every time.
