Updated thoughts on the Eras Tour changes

Taken on their own (like, as songs) the cut songs (The Archer, Long Live, Tis The Damn Season, Tolerate It, The 1, The Last Great American Dynasty) are much better than the songs chosen for TTPD (But Daddy I Love Him, So High School, Who's Afraid of Little Old Me, Down Bad, Fortnight, The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived, I Can Do It With a Broken Heart) on the whole and tbh it's not really a contest.

BUT in terms of performances looking at what was cut vs how TTPD act is staged the latter is stronger. Long Live was a good inclusion to the tour because we only have oneguitar song besides it per show (the first surprise song) (EDIT: I forgot about ATW10MV so it's actually two) and so little Speak Now as is. TLGAD and Tolerate It were some of the more theatrical numbers and also should have stayed (Tolerate It being theatrical yet chill was cool and unlike anything else on tour). But the other cuts are fine from a performance perspective. (I assume it was because of dancer costume changes but tbh TTDS should have never been the opening song to the Evermore set, Willow packed a much bigger punch in that regard.) The 1 (and previously Invisible String) being performed on the roof was cool but we still get those visuals just with Cardigan, which originally had a performance that looked very similar to several of the other Folklore songs.

TTPD choreo and aesthetics are very good and even if certain song choices were not it the performances gave life to some of them, much like they have for songs like Vigilante Shit. So I can see the appeal there and why some people might see this new version of the show as stronger.

(THAT SAID the cuts still should have been spread out a little amongst the eras. Some of the more generic pop numbers should have gone in favor of the three that I said should have definitely stayed.)

When I left NYC last week I could only take one guitar that might get destroyed under the plane in baggage - it wasn’t gonna be my ‘59 Les Paul Junior so it had to be my ‘89 Kramer Baretta! But ya know what - it’s a pretty solid axe. I had my guy in NL fix her up & screw down that silly Floyd Rose tremolo and - Voila! I used this & my ‘68 Tele on tour with Company Of Wolves in 1990...and in the video for “The Distance”! (Find it on YouTube.)
