Happy Birthday good sir. Hope your making ears bleed and hearts melt somewhere today. @reignwolf came to @newportfolkfest a fews years back and took that whole "go electric" idea Dylan had to an other level. His set at the Quad stage was one of my all time favorites. Dripping with sweat and so excited to have been a part of the fest. . The story I heard told, was that Johnny was the Sunday headliner and during his set break, he insisted that Kris be allowed to keep playing during the break. The following year, Janis recorded Bobby McGee. She died before it's release. Last summer, I had the honor of joining the Texas Gentlemen on a cross country trip from Dallas to Newport, to document the surprise guest performances of Terry Allen, Joe Ely & Kris Kristofferson at the Newport Folk Festival. It was to be Kristofferson's first return to the NFF, since his 1969 appearance as Johnny Cash's guitarist. Patty Smith was set to join Kris to sing Bobby McGee, but 10 mins before set time, she was stuck in traffic and clearly wasn't going to make it. Chase McGillis sent Margo Price a text that simply asked, "Do you want to sing Bobby McGee with Kris Kristofferson?" I'm sure her response was short and may have contained an expletive or two... It turned out to be one of the most talked about moments of the entire weekend, that was otherwise also filled with epic moments of love, light and sound. ........... Folks meet Curtis! He's already a veteran @newportfolkfest fan at the age of three. I thought he looked so cool in his oversized lifeguard hat so took a minute to take a photo. When I create these I always make a point to get mom and dads contact info so I can send a print. Here is what his mom Holly shared with me : My son's name is Curtis. He is 3 and this was his 4th time at the festival! He was born in May and we decided not to miss it his first summer and he attended his first time at 2 months old! His Dad and I have attended every year since we started dating and this was our 7th time attending. It's now a family tradition and a treasured time for us all to spend time together in a magical place experiencing love and music. It's been an incredible way to mark his progression and watch him enjoy different things each year. His highlights this year were the special appearance by Nathaniel Rateliff and the crafts in the kid tent. Thanks again for capturing this, we have a new baby on the way and this was our last festival as a family of 3. This is such a great way to remember it by!!! I love grabbing a coffee from the Coffee Guy in the morning prior to gates opening at @newportfolkfest and heading over to the line. I get to chat with old friends and cherry pick images of the scene. This little busker was too cute. Front of the line strumming away and excited for the weekend.
