Name: Caesar License: Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (knockoff/custom) Manufacturer: JG Toys Year: 2016? Material: plastic, fabric and metal clothing Height: 1” Type: custom 1:6 scale figure head sculpt
Bring me the head of Caesar! Detailed 1:6 custom/knockoff head. Nicely done. Sadly doesn’t fit inside the helmet of my yellow space suit.

Name: Monkey King Wreaks Havoc, Ghost Version Platform: Journey to the West Artist: Jei Tseng Manufacturer: J.T. Studio Year: 2016 Material: plastic, fabric clothing, metal details Height: 13” Type: designer1:6 action figure
The very cool, gray and red Ghost Version of J.T.’s latest Monkey King. His best. Sleek. Sculptural. A sneer with a smile. a swirling cudgel. Great detail (love the shoes)...and the best stand ever—a wisp of his flying cloud.

Name: Ray Platform: Primates in Concrete Jungle Artist: Jason Siu Manufacturer: ACI Toys Year: 2013 Material: plastic, plush hair, fabric clothing Height: 13” with gorilla head (12” with human head) Type: 1:6 scale designer action figure
One of Jason Siu’s two multi-headed DJs—each includes a human head, stylized ape head and speaker head. This is Ray, with his gorilla head. The other character is Brad, who has a chimp head. Cool DJ accessories. Great detail. His boots are the best part.

Name: Yuan Kong (with conquered Chilie base) Collection: War in the West: Time Wars Artist: Winson Ma, Winson Classic Creation Manufacturer: Gate Toys Year: 2017 Material: plastic, plush, fabric and metal clothing Height: 12” Type: 1:6 scale designer action figure with conquered creature base
Finally—Winson Ma’s reimagining of the Monkey King! The futuristic, time-traveling Yuan Kong, with cyber mask and armor, stands atop the remains of a vanquished Chilie (a mechanized Bull Demon King that Facebook entertainingly translates to “e-cow”). Based on his one-off figure created for Animation-Comic Hong Kong 2007—and now part of a fully-developed storyline, War in the West: Time Wars. Brass mask with mirror-like eyes, staff made from 2 swords, fire sword, big gun, extra hands (with and without gloves), a sword hilt to stick in his backpack—and a stand that is a character in itself. Unbelievable detail. A work of art. I have no room to put this!

Name: Nikko, Leader of the Winged Monkeys License: The Wizard of Oz, 1939 MGM film Platform: Barbie, Signature, Hollywood Dolls, The Wizard of Oz Winkie Guard Ken Doll and Winged Monkey Manufacturer: Mattel Year: 2006 Material: plastic, vinyl, fabric clothing, feathers Height: 5 7/8” Articulation: 5 points Type: 1:6 scale doll
The only 1:6 scale flying monkey that I’ve found. (Mattel/Barbie produced an earlier porcelain version in 2001.) A little stiff, but he has real feather wings! The Winkie Guard he came with is kinda cool too (but not a monkey).

Name: Dr Gori costume on Takara Henshin Cyborg 99 King Walden II Figure License: Spectreman Manufacturer: Takara Year: 1999 Material: plastic, fabric clothing, rooted hair Height: 12” Type: costumed action figure
Dr Gori, Space Apeman and mad scientist from the Simian Planet E (along with his gorilla henchman, Karras) tries to save Earth by enslaving us polluting humans—but is stopped by Spectreman. I was immediately taken by his evil blond shag and mod lavender leisure suit. Spectreman was a Japanese series from 1971–72. There are fun clips on YouTube. The figure is actually a transparent Henshin Cyborg (the forefather of Micronauts) figure from their 98-99 relaunch with a removable costume (like Captain Action).
