He wished he could dream about paradise instead - a place that makes him happy, fills him with warmth and comfort he's been seeking for, at least internally so, for however long he's existing so far. Perhaps his brain lacks the image of what he considers an oasis - he's only ever been met with pictures of his old home, the people he's met there, the missions he's been a part of - and what came after; An escape, a rough landing, exploitation within white-walled, sterile rooms.

The same goes for the concept of a family, for the matter - he's never had one, so he can only guess what it must feel like to be part of one.

"What does it feel like to you, to dream about... your family?", he asks, out of pure curiosity.

They stared at nothing, doing the calculations and math in their head to try and decide the outcomes on the question posed.

Standing up he grabbed his cane and stood up to let them in, "Doctor McCoy, this is a surprise, come in." He stepped to the side and asked, "can I get you something to drink?"

Now how could she possibly try to argue with him when they both knew they were talking about her? That conflict is clear in how her brows knit together, eyes distant as her expression falls somewhere between vacancy and frustration. Despite all of that, she was appreciative of his reassurance... She really was.

Kirk flicks his eyes up toward McCoy, then back down to his monitor. Four crew members dead--several more injured--because he'd made a bad call, because he'd misread the situation... because he didn't have the experience most Starfleet captains had, or at least that was what Starfleet Command would say.

Thing is, he can't think of anything he could've done differently. Putting up shields earlier would've been seen as a sign of aggression, and they'd been trying to avoid conflict. For all the good that had done.

He blows out a breath and finally leans back, pinching the bridge of his nose. He knows McCoy has gotten just as little rest as he has, given how many people had come through the sickbay.

"I know, Bones." And he appreciates it, although it's not easy to say that. Finally, he grins unhappily. "Hope you never regret that.

Pavel grumbles to himself and attempts half-heartedly to bat away McCoy's hands. "It is not that bad," he counters, even as he gives in enough to settle his own hands. As much as they ever can be settled, that is, fingers fidgeting with each other in his lap. "I have a headache now." The 'now' is tacked on as if to make it out to somehow be the doctor's fault, though the both of them are smart enough to know otherwise. Pavel can be smart and hate the fact that if he's injured, he has to deal with it. One day he'll be able to just think his way out of injuries, unrealistic as that dream may be. "I have interesting dreams, for your record."

Isiah let out a small, relieved sigh of relief at that, going to the pointed kettle.
