大麻山と高山の石合戦の伝説を紹介したいと思います。大麻山に入植してきた忌部族が小野族と争ったという内容です。

伝えるところによると忌部族の大将である大麻比古は馬に乗って海を渡ってきたといいう。つむじまがりな神さまである。折井の浜につくと馬から下り、これからは舟で行くと言って馬の鞍を海に投げ入れた。それが折井海岸の鞍島になったという。舟に乗った大麻比古は大麻山に登っていった。大麻比古が山頂に立って周囲を見下ろすと、現在の小野の原に人影が見えた。目障りだ追い払えと大石をポンポンと投げ出し始めた。驚いたのは小野族である。命からがら西に向かって逃げ出した。大麻比古は手を緩めず、逃げる人達めがけて石の雨を降らせる。小野族は高津川を死にものぐるいで渡ってようやく須佐の高山に辿り着いた。この辺りは小野族の勢力範囲で、さっそく大麻山に向かって反撃しはじめた。大麻山から石が飛んでくるのに対し、高山からも負けじと石が投げらる。しかし、大麻山から投げる石が勢いよ高山の頂上をかすめるのに対し、高山から投げ出された石はようやく大麻山の麓に届くばかりである。こうなると迷惑は周囲にも及んで、仲裁するものが出てきた。すったもんだの結果、小野族の先住権は認められて小野に戻り、忌部族側は山を領分とすることで話が決着した。高山の西側の海は今でも大石が海底にぎっしりと埋まっている。大麻山が投げた石であると伝えられている。

この伝説は再話されたものです。つまり、脚色されたことで元の伝説の内容が分からなくなってしまったのです。
