Just curious… &  I don’t mean this in an oh woe is me kinda way, but why do you guys follow me? What stood out to you that made you decide to follow  &  what did you find yourself sticking around for? What are your thoughts on my portrayal  &  headcanons for Chris? Just in general I’d like to know because I’m curious  &  peeking at how many people have followed  -  idk. Brain is… bweh.

(01) Is your OC superstitious? Mostly no, but James does believe in some superstitions such as four-leaf clovers, bad luck comes in threes, don't open umbrella's inside, breaking mirrors, horse shoes, and rabbit foots. He also believes that some of these items fall into the Cursed Object category.

(14) Has/would your OC ever made a deal with a magical or supernatural entity? Part of this question depends on what magical or supernatural entity it is. Currently, James will avoid approaching such entities as, honestly, they are far more trouble than they're worth to get what he'd potentially want from them. Mostly, however, he avoids them due to a bargain his parents made surrounding the birth of him and his twin, Jacob, as he has no idea whether or not his Forgetting spell worked beyond this plane of existence.

(25) Does your OC believe any conspiracy theories? If so, which ones, and why? James' analytical, rational thinking brain is not particularly prone to believing in conspiracy theories. However... he does believe in secret societies such as the Illuminati. His belief stems from the discovery of exceptionally vague and subtle references to the organization in the journals and spell books of his ancestors.

(29) How likely is it that your OC would be charmed by and fall prey to mermaids? It's not a question of likely, it's a matter of when James would fall prey to a mermaid. His knowledge of lore and myth would give him a boost in resisting, but James at his core is human. His magic is finite and he is not infallible to the charms of supernatural entities.

There's a tendency to portray the mazoku lords as being like. One Big Quirky Happy Family, which I think is mostly just fans deliberately bein' goofs but does get portrayed seriously or semi-seriously enough for me to go "Hm."

Quick info dump explanation: There's the dark lord Ruby Eye Shabranigdu, the most powerful of mazoku, basically our equivalent of Satan and wants to destroy the world. He made five subordinates named (iirc) Chaos Dragon Gaav, Hellmaster Phibrizzo, Dynast Grausherra, Beastmaster Zelas Metallium, and Deep Sea Dolphin. Each of those five mazoku lords has made various subordinates of their own, referred to as the mazoku generals and mazoku priests. Xellos, general-priest of Zelas and her only subordinate, is also the only one who appears in the anime.

Anyway, there's a tendency to have it like "Shabranigdu is the grandpa, the five mazoku lords are his kids, and the generals and priests are the grandkids :)" with things like Xellos referring to the mazoku lords aside from Zelas as aunt or uncle. Again, this seems to be mostly a joke but you know how it is with fandom jokes that kind of start getting treated as actually how things are.

I don't particularly care for this because I straight up think it's OOC for them to relate to one another in a familial way or even have much affection for one another. The most I can see is the priests/generals having a sense of fealty towards and a desire to be valued by the specific lords that created them, as well as all mazoku-kind being like. Shabranigdu is the most powerful and the most important of us, his goal is our goal. But I don't see them hanging out or calling each other auntie or nephew or anything.

-I just wrote out this whole ramble and then I remembered that there's "Rezo is a sexual predator who probably molested his grandson" content out there. Actually that is the worst fanon. The Mazoku Bunch is fine, actually.

tbh I'm not sure what blorboficiation means. The character the fandom most obsesses over??? Probably Xellos and/or Zelgadis, but I feel bad calling them the "worst" because I like them and think they're interesting. Good blorboficiation.

Uhhhh I think I'd like to see more stuff of the various minor characters, from one-offs like Ashford and Miwan, to more secondary characters like Zangulus, Martina, or the Overworlders from TRY. Slayers in general I think does have an interesting world and I kind of wish it was explored more in fic, which tends to be very centered on shipping tbh and doesn't really prioritize other stuff.

-Related, this may be part of why I am not as bothered as other people by the main party becoming more supporting protagonist-ish in the later seasons.

limoncello and narancia is a potentially terrible two-person combo because narancia will get an idea for an absolutely bonkers stunt that can only truly go wrong and limoncello, knowing full well that it can only truly go wrong will say "wow yeah, that'd be so cool if you did that, you should try it :)" just to see if he eats shit. (that said, if he does pull it off he will get the coveted limoncello "wow, you actually did it, you squirrely little bastard" award, which is high praise--it might even include a hair-mussing that doesn't turn into a noogie three seconds in.)

duality of limoncello is her being like "if you fuck up in a fight that's on you, i'm not gonna help your dumb ass" and then smooth criminal absolutely coming in clutch should narancia ever need some kind of cover from attack of its own volition because i love the stand-betrays-its-user's-true-loyalty schtick.

Disclaimer: I will admit that for this one, I don’t actually know if my opinion is that unpopular, however, when browsing tags/fanfics, it certainly feels like the other one I’m referring to for contrast is the way more popular opinion.

Also, warning: this is fairly rambly and written just as a stream of thought. I was having trouble pinning down my thoughts and organizing them, so I ended up just putting them down as I had them. My apologies for the lack of coherency this may or may not create.

When browsing tags/fics, I see a lot of ‘fix it’ fics for BatJokes—that is, a lot of fics where Batman ‘cures’ the Joker (some slow burn, others not) through their relationship. That’s all well and good for the people that enjoy that, but I’m not one of those people. For me, it ruins what I love about the ship.

I’ll be honest, I tried to explain what it is I find so compelling about the ship, but I can’t really explain it. The best I can do is to say that I find fix it fics unsatisfying because, to me, they erase who the Joker is as a character. 

Also, I enjoy batjokes as a very unhealthy ship (not to the point of noncon, but definitely ‘guilty pleasure’ level for Bruce). I like the fics where he’s constantly questioning why he’s doing this, where he’s telling himself he needs to stop, but it just keeps happening and happening until he finally just gives in/throws caution to the wind and accepts it very begrudgingly. I like the slow burn and build-up fics where the author points out how shitty he feels about the fact that he’s just fucked the Joker, aka the madman mass murderer, and where he’s constantly judging himself for that and wishing he could take it back, but then the Joker comes back and there’s an opportunity to do it again, and he just can’t help himself.

I guess in a way, the flavour I personally enjoy their ship in, is similar to addiction. Batman is drawn to the Joker, as much as he hates it and knows it’s bad for him, but he just keeps allowing it to happen anyway. The Joker is drawn to Batman because the attention is a literal addiction for him, and he needs more and more and more of it.

And sure, Bruce sometimes makes excuses to himself to justify it, e.g. Joker commits fewer crimes while with him, or giving him (sexual) attention generally means he’s less likely to go out and seek attention in other ways, but it’s not a full-on cure. More like a makeshift bandaid. The Joker still has a tendency to kill people if he’s bored; that’s just his nature. He’s still got a tendency to commit heinous and/or wacky crimes, because that’s what the Joker does, and if the Joker’s NOT doing that, then he’s not really the Joker in my eyes.

This got kind of long and rambly and disorganized so I’ll go edit a disclaimer on the top, but the tl;dr to take away from it is: I like my batjokes to be unhealthy. I like Bruce to be full of regret and angst, and Joker to be in it for the attention, but also still committing crimes on the side. And I don’t want Joker to be ‘cured,’ or Bruce to settle down. I want pretty much just normal Batman + Joker, but plus sex, forever and ever and ever.
