abbott fandom went downhill quickly. i know it always goes like this… there’s a tipping point where it’s no longer a small group of besties vibing about their interest. but the way there are racist micro aggressions circulating and 50% of the fandom seems to be watching exclusively for lisa ann walter’s tits

#it’s typical but sad #at a certain point it becomes a practice of regurgitating the same tropes that have been accepted as ‘fanon’#instead of engaging with the text and situating it in its milieu #or putting it in conversation with contemporary social problems that the text itself doesn’t explicitly address because of its genre/form #the main reason this show interests me is because it makes me think about what it means for #a Black churchgoing woman of a certain age to come to terms with her sexuality #(and then is sought out a Duke UP book on those themes lol)#so to watch the landscape devolve into all of this… boo #okay i’m done being cynical and mildly elitist now
