“Question,” you whisper, softly stroking his hair with languid passes.

“Hmm.”

“Are you a light sleeper?”

He moves his head upward, and you think he’s aiming his eyes as high as possible. Adorable. “Kinda. Why.”

You pause, inhaling and exhaling deep before admitting, “If I get nightmares, I wake up.. uhm. In a tiny panic.” Stopping your brushing, you sigh. “Sorry if I end up waking you.”

“It’s all good.” He slides a hand up your stomach. “Do you get them a lot?”

“Not as much lately,” you muse, heart aching at the way his palm’s warming you through his shirt. “But… When it happens, I play something calm. Try to relax until passing out again.”

“Mm.”

“Just crossed my mind, is all.” You start your journey across his hair again. “Probably won’t even be an issue.”

However—as all timing goes—it does end up a problem. Because hours later you wake with a jolt, breathing hard and mind in a frenzy.

But Yoongi is there, half-conscious and pulling your trembling in with a strong arm.

“Fuck,” you stutter out, breaths harsh and gulps loud. “Damn it.”

He only whispers that it’s okay to your temple, and you shudder for what feels like minutes until you hear the faintest of murmurs. Of hums.

Hums?

Stilling, you hold your breath.

Because though Yoongi’s voice in the dark is rough, his low notes are soft in all the right places.

He’s…

Oh.

Your eyes slip shut in endearment, tension and panic melting from your shoulders in an instant.

As he keeps singing, you nestle into his side, knowing that you’ll never have to play something from your phone if this happens again.

All you’ll need to do is think of this moment.

The moment that Yoongi chased away your dread in the slowest, calmest, most thoughtful way he ever could.

“Don’t want to…”

“It’s late.”

“You’re late.”

A quiet huff.

“And you’re tired. Just sleep.”

“I’d…” You drift off, not knowing how much time passes before you exhale. “I would if I was there.”

“Yeah. Cus I’d make you. Like now.”

“Mmph.” You breathe in deeper, feeling like you won’t have a say regardless in a few seconds. “What’re you gonna do.”

“I dunno. Maybe work on something.”

Your acknowledgement is more of a sigh than spoken syllables, already one foot into unconsciousness. The only thing you remember whispering with some effort is a low, quiet,

“Night, Yoongi.”

And exhaustion finally takes you.

When you wake up a few hours later, you expect the phone to be off and the call done.

So when you hear static and soft hints of breathing next to your head, you think you’re still asleep.

And you don’t have the heart to end the call.
