does the weight of being robin (or any other hero) make you feel insecure at times? do you feel as if you can't live up to other's standards of you? ( for the question meme. )

the short answer is OF COURSE IT DOES. 

but it’s because tim knows what that legacy, that identity means to people. because tim knows, remembers what it meant to him. robin was his hero long before he ever thought he could ever be like him. tim’s insecurity is very much about other people’s perception of robin though, both the people who believe in him & how his actions reflect on the rest of the bat family & of course batman himself.

this is why losing the robin identity, becoming red robin is both a blessing and a curse for tim. a curse because it was his identity, the robin mantle was acting as tim’s security blanket in a very unstable world. it was something that was taken away before tim could realize that he didn’t have to cling to it. but it was also a blessing because red robin didn’t really have positive connotations. it was an identity in which tim felt he had the freedom to do what he felt needed to be done, to act on a sort of pragmatic gray moral edges reality. and it’s nice to be judged only on his own actions and not have them blamed on somebody else. 

as red robin his successes belong to him, and so do his failures. 

as for living up to other people’s standards. professionally, in the mask, yes. he’s gotten relatively confident in his abilities as a vigilante and a capable team leader. personally, as tim drake (brother, friend, boyfriend), sometimes.

i mean, i remember... way, way back in the day, some absolute nutjob made the grossest claim about a particular sherlock character, demanding that no one ever make them a poc simply because of what canon dictated. because canon said this character was from a particular place in england, they couldn’t be a poc. WHAT ? pardon me, but are you or are you not aware of the fact that these are fictional ?? characters ??

tbh it was so messed up in the past, and i hope it has become better over time.

         “   you’re   hurt—badly!   ”         the   words   FRANTICALLY  spill   out   before   dick   can   properly   get   to   her,   racing   to   where   she   had   fallen   &   practically   throwing   himself   on   his   knees   in   order   to   asses   the   wound.   all   he   saw   was   scarlet,   &   mangled   flesh   around   her   torso-   his   breath   HITCHING   in   his   throat   at   the   sheer   severity   of   it.   this   wasn’t   how   the   night   was   supposed   to   go.   bright   blue   eyes   welling   with   denied   tears   glance   only   briefly   to   the   villain   responsible   for   this-   down.   good.   one   thing   out   of   the   way.

         “      hang   on,   babs.   please   just-   focus   on   my   voice,   okay?   you’ll   get   through   this.   ”            a   faked   calmness   washes   over   him   as   he   hastily   fumbles   around   in   her   utility   belt   for   something-   anything-   that   could   help.   normally   in   times   of   panic   his   brain   copes   with   jokes   or   snarky   comments,   DESPERATELY   clinging   onto   his   false   facade   of   coolness,   but   there   was   none   of   that   this   time.   just   racing   thoughts   as   he   attempts   to   somehow   apply   enough   pressure   to   stop   the   bleeding.   but   the   wound   is   big,   gaping   even,   &   some   FEARFUL   part   of   him   can   only   see   her   as   the   corpse   he   is   terrified   she   will   become.       “  du’ dera.   li’   sa’ eer,   du’ dera.  ”

literally would have made so much mor e sense to show that bond that jason & babs had... as batgirl & ro b in, them teasing each o ther, & babs  nudging him into place. but also like lowkey knocking him out of the way bc she cant let anything happen to this smol thing. like the two of THEM taking on the joker ?? it would’ve linked up so much better w the gam e + added so m u ch to the audio diary. ( i mean the audio diary is already more i deserve in th is  life !! ) but like babs saying come home would’ve hurt so mu ch. bc we could’ve seen muc h they cared about each ot h er?
