Tumblr media Tumblr media
What is Herpangia/Oral Ulcers in Kids/Adults Herpangina is a viral illness that primarily affects young children. It is caused by a group of viruses known as enteroviruses, and typically causes a sudden onset of fever, sore throat, and painful mouth sores (also known as ulcers) on the inside of the cheeks, gums, and roof of the mouth. Treatment for herpangina is primarily aimed at relieving symptoms, as there is no specific cure for the underlying viral infection. Some steps that can be taken to manage symptoms include:

Over-the-counter pain relievers: Acetaminophen or ibuprofen can help relieve the pain associated with herpangina. Staying hydrated: Encourage the child to drink plenty of fluids, such as water or fruit juice, to prevent dehydration. Rest: Getting plenty of rest can help the body fight off the infection and allow for faster recovery.   Soft foods: Eating soft, cool foods like yogurt, applesauce, or popsicles may help soothe the sore throat and mouth sores.

Oral antiseptics: Antiseptic mouthwashes or sprays can help reduce pain and prevent secondary bacterial infections. It is important to seek medical attention if the child experiences any severe symptoms, such as difficulty breathing or swallowing, persistent high fever, or signs of dehydration. Your healthcare provider may recommend additional treatments or tests depending on the severity of the illness.
