Discover The Sweet Benefits of Eating Dates
Tumblr media
Dates have been around for centuries, and for good reason. These chewy, sweet fruits aren't just delicious, but they're also packed with nutrients that can benefit your overall health. Plus, with their versatility, you can add them to any meal or snack. But are dates good for you? Let's explore the many benefits of eating dates and explore how you can use them in your cooking and healthy baking. As always, let's start with a simple question.
What are Dates?
Dates are a type of fruit that comes from the date palm tree, which is native to the Middle East and North Africa. Once dried, they have a sweet, rich flavour and a chewy texture, and are typically oval or cylindrical in shape. They come in many varieties and can be eaten both fresh and dried. A staple food in many cultures, particularly in the Middle East, they are often used in cooking and baking due to their natural sweetness. Dates are also highly nutritious, packed with fibre and a ton of other essential nutrients. So, not only a delicious treat but also a healthy one! Types of Dates There are many varieties of dates grown, each with its unique taste, texture, and sweetness level. Whilst we are used to the soft wrinkled brown fruits that are dried, many cultures also eat fresh dates which look and taste totally different. Fresh Dates Fresh dates are plumper, more juicy, and have a less intense sweet flavour than dried dates. They can be eaten as they are or used in cooking. Dried Dates Dried dates are much sweeter and have a chewier texture compared to fresh dates. Some are dried more than others and they range from the softly sweet eating dates to the harder block type commonly used in baking. They can be used as a natural sweetener or eaten as a healthy snack. Our raw pitted dates are sourced from the best organic farms in Tunisia
Are Dates Good for You?
Dates are not only sweet but also incredibly nutritious. They are packed with vitamins and minerals, including potassium, magnesium, vitamin A, and fibre. Additionally, dates have a low glycemic index, which means they won't cause a sharp increase in blood sugar levels. Here's a rundown of the major nutrients found in dates. Dietary Fibre: Dates are rich in dietary fibre, beneficial for digestion and keeping you full for longer periods, thereby contributing to weight management. Potassium: An essential mineral for heart health, muscle strength, and nerve functioning, dates are an excellent source of potassium. Magnesium: This mineral found abundantly in dates aids in hundreds of biochemical reactions in the body, including protein formation, muscle movements, and nervous system regulation. Vitamin A: Vital for maintaining eye health, dates provide a good amount of Vitamin A. Copper: Dates provide copper, necessary for the production of red blood cells and aiding in the absorption and use of iron. Iron: Good for anaemia prevention, dates contain plenty of iron. Vitamin K: Essential for blood coagulation, dates supply a decent amount of this vitamin. Vitamin B6: This vitamin plays a crucial role in brain health. Fortunately, dates are a good source of Vitamin B6. Antioxidants: Dates are rich in antioxidants like flavonoids, carotenoids, and phenolic acid, which help protect the body against inflammation.
The Health Benefits of Dates
So, what are the benefits of eating dates? - Natural Sweetener: Dates contain natural sugars and are a healthy alternative to white sugar . - Promote Digestive Health: The high fiber content in dates aids in digestion and can prevent constipation. They are often categorized as a laxative food. - Bone Health: Dates are packed with several minerals, including phosphorus, potassium, calcium, and magnesium, all of which are crucial for bone health. - Boost Energy Levels: The natural sugars in dates: fructose, glucose, and sucrose, provide a quick energy boost when needed. - Improve Heart Health: Eating dates may help reduce LDL cholesterol levels in the blood, which is a leading contributor to heart-related problems. - Promote Brain Health: Dates are beneficial for boosting brain health and functioning and reducing the risk of neurodegenerative diseases. - Rich in Antioxidants: Dates are a good source of antioxidants, which can help prevent the development of certain chronic illnesses. Remember, even though dates are high in fibre and various nutrients, they are still fairly high in calories and best consumed in moderation. Calories in Dates When it comes to calorie content, dates are energy-dense fruits but their calorie count can vary widely. A single Medjool date, one of the most common varieties, contains approximately 66 calories. In comparison, a Deglet Noor date, which is smaller and less sweet, has about 20 calories. Just remember that not all calories are created equal, and the calories in dates are anything but empty.
Dates as a Natural Sweetener
As a nutrient-rich source of natural sugars, dates make for an ideal natural sweetener in place of refined sugars. Are dates full of sugar? Yes, dates are indeed rich in sugar, but it's important to highlight that this is natural sugar and not the processed kind often found in unhealthy snacks and junk food. A single Medjool date contains about 16 grams of sugar. This sugar, however, is accompanied by a ton of nutrients and fibre, making it a far healthier choice than refined sugar. So while dates are high in sugar, they provide a nutrient-dense form of sweetness that can be beneficial when consumed in moderation. They are also considered to be a low GI food. How many dates should I eat every day? While the ideal number of dates to consume daily varies depending on individual needs and dietary preferences, a general recommendation is to eat no more than 2-3 dates into your diet every day. This amount ensures a beneficial intake of essential nutrients and fibre while keeping your calorie and sugar intake in check. Remember, it's always a good idea to consult with a healthcare professional or a dietitian to determine the optimal dietary choices for your specific health goals and needs.
Using Dates Every Day
You can of course just snack on dates. They are particularly good straight from the fridge, as they become really chewy like sweets. But dates have far more uses than that and are a valuable replacement for refined sugar. Using dates Dates can be used raw, in dishes such as salads or as a topping for your muesli. They can be cooked into dishes to provide flavour and natural sweetness, or cooked into a puree for adding to baking. Not only do they provide natural sweetness but they add moisture to a bake and also improve the shelf life. Try our recipe for no added sugar banana muffins, which features the great taste of dates. Cooking with dates Date Smoothie: Blend dates with your choice of milk, a banana, and a spoonful of peanut butter for a nutritious and naturally sweet smoothie. Stuffed Dates: Dates can be pitted and stuffed with a variety of fillings, like cream cheese, nuts, or dark chocolate for a delicious snack or appetizer. Date Syrup: Simmer dates in water, then blend and strain to create a natural sweetener that can be used in place of refined sugar in recipes. Date Bars: Dates, oats, nuts, and seeds can be combined to make a batch of no-bake energy bars. Perfect for a quick breakfast or snack on the go. Date Bread or Muffins: Dates add sweetness and moisture to breads and muffins, reducing the need for added sugar and fats. In Salads: Chopped dates add a sweet contrast to salads, especially those with bitter greens or tangy dressings. In Meat Dishes: Dates can be incorporated into savoury dishes, such as stews or roasts, to add a hint of sweetness that balances out the savoury flavours. Date and Nut Truffles: Combine dates with nuts and cocoa powder in a food processor, roll into balls and you have a simple, healthy dessert or snack. As a Garnish: Finely chopped dates can be used as a garnish for dishes like yogurt, cereal, or ice cream. They add a sweet element and interesting texture. Date Chutney: Dates, when simmered with spices and vinegar, make a delicious chutney that pairs well with cheeses, meats, and breads.   It's clear that dates bring more than just sweetness to the table. Nutritionally dense, and a great source of natural sweetness, there are so many ways you can use them. So, why not add dates to your next grocery list? He was taller than them.
Infinitely so.
They knew he wasn't that big - not compared to everything else around them, from the walls closing off his fortress to the island it sat on, to the silvery sea around it or the body it was still housed within. He wasn't even that big compared to them, and they knew that too: he was only about a bio taller than them, maybe a little more, maybe only half. A sizable, immediately noticeable difference, but it wasn't that much. It wasn't enough to make him appear so gargantuan and frightening. They had stood beside similarly large beings, and while a slight awe had made them queasy it had not been so oppressive.
But there was something about him that made him larger than life. Something that crawled out of him like white marble maggots from a white marble corpse, a strange perfect imperfection that made them feel minuscule.
Perhaps their incomplete number worsened it.
He watched them, impassive.
From how close they were to him (they could have walked up to him; they could have turned that small distance to zero and stood directly in front of him; but they didn't. They couldn't. Something inside them couldn't. Something inside them wouldn't.) they could notice that one of his eyes was not facing them: it was stuck halfway upwards, forever gazing into the sky, while the other continued to stare down at them without so much as a glint of emotion. Despite having all the appearance of a mistake on someone's part, that strange physical quirk had not been fixed. Evidently, it was not an anomaly.
"Good." Artakha said.
His voice held no warmth, no anger, no grief, no bitterness. It was clear and smooth, like polished crystal, and wholly pleasant in its completeness. Something about it almost had them recoil and flatten as if they had been just welcomed into a lethal trap of a lair by the famished growl of a gigantic drooling beast.
They had not expected he would have come to greet them himself. He never had before, delegating his disembodied words and the mechanisms of his fortress to do such a thing for him. Yet this time he had taken it upon himself to walk away from his chambers, from the pristine faintly hued greys that snaked behind him into the deeper parts of his small realm, to stand before them as he did now; in their arrogance, in their hope, they had thought upon coming back to their senses after the surprise of truly seeing him that it must have meant something.
But his tone was calm and empty, a white room with carefully set pastel toys, an environment so quiet and sterile that it smelled potently of the dust it looked to have been blanketed in.
In a strange way, it appalled them.
"You have come back to me." Artakha continued.
His mask glowed softly, golden and splendid. The runes deeply hetched upon it made it seem beyond ancient.
Against the barely visible backdrop of his reclusive kingdom, the glimmer distorted the kanohi into the garbled image of a small, sickly moon, incapable of offering all that sat around it the full strength of the light it could barely reflect.
He did not extend his arms towards them.
"Come now." Artakha ordered passionlessly. "Your work is done."
Something about that shook them from the hazy torpor threatening to devour their brains in too small bites.
"We're here to help evacuate the inhabitants of the last remaining islands," Tahu explained, mortified that his voice was even leaving him and yet unable to place why he felt that way, "The robot's insides are not safe - besides, there's so much to be done outside, and we-"
"There is no place for us in that world." Artakha cut him off.
He had not moved an inch.
They knew instinctively, uncomfortably, that his 'us' included them too.
"Our only purpose is here." Artakha stated. "We are not needed outside the bounds of this body."
"But there is life out there," Gali argued, though the mere act of speaking made her bones want to crumble in anguish to shut her up: "There are people who need us, who could use our help! There is so much to be rebuilt, and all of us-"
"You were made for this world, as was I." Artakha interrupted her.
Their lungs shriveled.
Their bodies hurt.
He remained unblemished in the face of their visible agony, perfect and still; his skewed eye ignored them as it continued to watch the now forever dimmed heavens, hanging lower and lower each day as the metal holding them aloft bent under the weight of age and abandonment.
"There is no such thing as a 'life' awaiting you in that world of real things." Artakha told them. "We are tools to be preserved: if your service will ever be needed again by Mata Nui, I will allow your deployment once more."
"And then?" Tahu coughed. He could swear his arms were melting off of him.
"Then you will return to me." Artakha answered. "As you have done now, because that is your purpose, and that is your only existence."
"And yours?" Gali hissed. Her head felt about to split into a thousand pieces.
"My purpose is to remain here and create, and see that you are used well." Artakha answered. "It is my only use; there is nothing other than this."
He spoke with the certainty of a man off to the gallows, the kind who knows well no dashing stranger or loyal friend will come to save him, and who thus accepts the coming execution with the mellow tiredness that brings the cattle into the slaughterhouse; but unlike the convict marked for death he held no sadness, no despair in his words, no roaring blasphemies nor tear-soaked regrets, not even that drowsy desire for it all to be done. He felt himself not a victim, and not like a victim he spoke, for that was not what he was.
He spoke like a machine that knew why it had been made, and that its function was now unnecessary. There was no poetry about it, and there was no injustice either. The world had begun with duty, and with this new lack of duty it would simply stop to one day begin again: he had known it would have happened since the start.
He had been made to wait until the lack of purpose passed, to one day be put to work again.
But they could not accept it.
They could not, because they were not him.
They were not machines. Not fully. Not anymore.
"We can't leave it all behind," Onua said softly, because his throat was coarse and dry as though burning inside his neck, "We have our Matoran to take care of - our Turaga, too - our friends, our-"
"You have nothing but your duty and yourselves." Artakha corrected him.
They flinched.
"As I have nothing but my duty and my creations." Artakha continued.
Few were aware that he had no brother anymore.
They did not inquire how he had come in possession of such information: beyond their inquiry being a waste of time, certainly it had not reached him in the same way it had them. Like for his reason of existence he simply seemed to have already known, somehow, that his only kin's death upon return would have been inevitable.
After all, one does not keep a broken instrument.
"We're not complete," Lewa fought back feebly, struggling through the tightness that threatened to crush his middle into a jagged heap, "Kopaka and Pohatu - they are-"
"They will come to me eventually, as you have done." Artakha sentenced. "And in the most dire of cases, I will simply make them once more."
The weak glow of his mask sent chills down their spines and almost sent them to their knees.
He had said it so carelessly. Without any inflection, any intonation, any difference in his speech. His voice had remained polished and clean, sanitized, pale colors melting into a greyish nothingness as though the images he conjured through them had not been nightmares woven into song.
He watched them as they contorted and writhed in place as composedly as they could, still slaves to the stilling awe he commanded. He did not blink.
"How many times have you made us?" Onua wheezed. Dark spots stole the sight from his eyes.
"For now, once." Artakha responded.
They wanted to cry.
They wanted to scream.
They wanted it to be over.
"We can't stay." Lewa breathed. He felt only an impossibly wide, horrible, biting cold.
The waves rocked behind them softly, gently, anchoring them to their bodies and selves as they struggled to do so on their own.
He remained unperturbed.
"Come now." Artakha only repeated. "You are to be preserved in sleep: that is my duty as well. You overshot your time active - two weeks had been calculated as the maximum amount it would have taken for you to deal with any issue; after all that has happened whilst you were awake, I assume this will be a... Pleasant... Change of pace."
(He said 'pleasant' strangely. As though he was using that word only out of politeness, without intention, without understanding it. As though the very concept behind it existing was alien to him.)
Then he turned, and walked through the open gate once more.
He did not look back when it became clear no other footsteps would have followed his own; he did not stop when the heavy entrance to his realm closed definitively behind him and he found his fortress once more lacking his most useful tools.
He walked to his chamber, passing the Matoran he had been given across the millennia: they worked in thoughtless silence, as Matoran were always meant to do, some repairing the signs of age upon the floors and walls, some taking materials to their rightful places, some finishing up the count of this or that's inventory, more still tinkering away much like he'd long been used to - perfect clanging cogs of a well-oiled clockwork. Soon enough they would complete their endless work, for nothing else would be there to be done; only then they would stop, and sit, and wait, in a blank torpor that fools might have called sleep, in order to be ready to return to their duties when their toiling would once again be required.
He arrived to the room (not the forge, not for now) and stood before his useless throne; there he stopped, and sat, and waited, staring forth with one eye as the other gazed upon the ceiling in a vaguely aware torpor, patiently existing in a stasis borne of lack of duty.
He was ready to remain for ages.
He had been made to, after all.
But movement distracted him.
A crooked thing walked into the chamber, smiling.
He recognized not the vessel, but the neutral miasma which slithered from its mangled form: it wriggled through the space around him like larvae burrowing in prey, used to permeating every mind it touched, and only regarded him curiously when it found him impervious to the complex, confusing charm of its ever winding workings.
"You." Artakha said dispassionately.
The crooked thing stood before him, smiling.
"There is nothing in this world for you." Artakha stated simply.
"The toys belong to the box, the box belongs to the child, and the child belongs to the parent."
"Leave my realm at once." Artakha insisted without animosity. "There is nothing for you here."
"In the smith's forge the furnace is indeed king amongst the tools, but a tool itself nonetheless."
"I am aware of myself and my duty, my eternity." Artakha spoke. "You cannot impede my function."
"Of course I can!"
He stiffened suddenly; his neck bent under the weight of his head and his body sagged where he sat. His chest convulsed briefly, just enough to push a murky liquid through his crevices, coating his body in blackened rivulets doomed to dry out.
His mask laid cracked and half made dust where it had fallen from his face.
He did not move.
The crooked thing turned, and walked through the door once more, smiling as it crept out of the fortress amongst heaps of stilled machines, crumpled into a pantomime of its mangled shape and silent even of their inner mechanical song, that until moments earlier had been so hard at work on maintaining the broken life-sized diorama of a bustling holy island.

As one of the oldest known fruits from the desert, dates have always been part of a healthy, Mediterranean diet. In addition to helping people lose weight, the Mediterranean diet seems to help people lower their cholesterol, reduce their risk for Alzheimer’s, diabetes and various types of cancer, and improve rheumatoid arthritis. This diet is centered on foods indigenous to the Mediterranean region – like olive oil and fish, along with whole grains and plant foods, including, of course, the date. Premium quality of dates collected and harvested from the farms is supplied by Ajwati Company to the buyers all over the world. We promise to supply highly recommended dates at a reasonable price, maintaining the best quality still. Each and every organic | Natural dates fruit ensures the highest level of quality. We even protect the quality of processing dates before packaging, and reduce the use of pesticides and agrochemicals in neighboring partner farms. "Did he tell you how he got that, by the way?"
Kopaka's hand immediately went to cover his forehead, and he glared so potently at Gresh that the temperature around him dropped by a good few degrees.
Pohatu took turns glancing between the two of them before settling his puzzled gaze back on the Glatorian: "How he got what?"
"The cut on his face elder Ferfax had to stitch shut for him."
The Toa of Stone immediately reached for the hand his friend had clamped around his head. He fought briefly to pry it off of him, but the Ko-Toa could do little to stop him as he was much less versed in hand-to-hand combat: once both wrists were caught in a solid rock grip and rendered useless he tried to turn his face as far back as he could, only for his last gamble to be made null by Pohatu's other hand simply grabbing the top of his head and forcibly turning it around.
"Huh," he said. Somehow his monotone conveyed more concern than any sliver of emotion might have. "There it is. I can't believe I didn't notice something like that."
"It's nothing," Kopaka tried to grumble.
"Marendar threw him against a rock when he bit his arm off," Gresh ratted him out: "If he had bones instead of protodermis he would've split his skull in half."
Pohatu made a very expressive face at the both of them, though it was hard to determine what emotion he was displaying beyond 'doing his best to carve his eye sockets wider so that his bulbs would simply slide right out of them while trying to clip his entire jaw through his upper teeth'.
Thoughts collected, he turned to his fellow Toa and told him flatly: "You are insane."
Kopaka frowned hard.
He pulled his lip up to snarl something; a finger slapped it shut.
Before he could glare harder at him the Stone Toa sprung up a second one with an eloquent tilt of his head.
He huffed, allowing him to go on.
"Did you put your mouth in the seams of its shoulder and yanked its whole arm out from there?" the other asked very slowly, putting a lot of emphasis on certain words. "With your teeth?"
After a moment of embarrassment, he replied: "Yes."
Pohatu loudly clapped his hands on his friend's shoulders and leaned his head back to stare at the sky: "That must have looked amazing," he mused in awe. "Wish I'd been there to see that. And also catch you before you slammed face first into a boulder."
Kopaka's eyes twitched, whole face turning sour. For a moment he thought of commenting on what a shame it was, that Pohatu had instead been busy being trapped with the Great Beings for their amusement after using himself as a bartering chip for a deal that hadn't even been respected.
His throat twisted itself, not letting him speak his thoughts into reality; so instead he mumbled: "I could show you."
"You would?" the Po-Toa asked, snapping his neck back down.
"You would?" Gresh echoed, more baffled than thrilled.
The Toa of Ice shrugged with a small motion that could have almost been mistaken for a show of discomfort: "If I had something roughly the same size and shape as Marendar at my disposal, I could."
His friend beamed.
-
Vican was lightly startled by the sudden slam of the workshop door, which meant that he did not immediately try to latch onto the ceiling dropping whatever he happened to be holding in that moment and instead only snuck under the nearest table while clutching tighter onto the broken down engine in his hands.
The sight of the two alien-looking organic creatures soothed him slightly: "Oh! Hell-ow," he greeted (bumping his head against his hiding place as he got back on his feet a bit too hastily).
Kopaka nodded in his direction, softly greeting him back.
"Are you here for more modifications?" the Matoran was quick to ask: "Trouble with the steering? The brakes? Berix and I just went out salvaging and got a few new engines if you want to look at them - well, they are pretty old their condition is not what I would call, uh, good, but if you give us a day we can-"
"Someone there?" Nuparu's voice interrupted him from behind a pile of junk the Onu-Toa was no doubt working in the midst of.
"Kopaka again! And Pohatu!"
"Ah - hold on, hold on-"
As suspected, the lanky black armored body spurted from the masses of bone, metal, glass and wire like some kind of majestic aquatic Rahi bursting out of the waves, accompanied by a cacophonic symphony of various bits and pieces clattering (or shattering) to the ground.
He waved at them while he tried, failing, to step over a smaller pile without completely demolishing it: "HELLO," he shouted over the ensuing rockus, "WHERE'S THE VEHICLE?"
"Not here," Kopaka replied once the other was close enough not to accidentally send any more scrap flying.
"Well, that's half your problem."
"I didn't come here for it. It's a different matter."
"Why'd you tell Vican otherwise?"
"I did not say anything."
The mutated Matoran shrank in his shoulders, awfully embarrassed, and tried to mumble an apology; all three Toa reassured him there was nothing to worry about without words, each using instead a completely different kind of gesture that somehow still managed to convey the exact same message.
A loud bang distracted the group: a leg that looked a lot like Berix's attempted to wriggle itself out of a pile of twisted and bent metal wires as they watched.
Berix himself peeked through the mess to better look at them, seeming calm, so hopefully the limb was still attached to him.
"IS IT THE STEERING WHEEL?"" he asked loudly.
"NOT ABOUT THE CHARIOT," Nuparu replied. "WHAT IN KARZHANI WENT DOWN BACK THERE?"
"GRIP SLIPPED."
"AH! IT HAPPENS."
"Do you have a big Toa-like bugger back there?" Pohatu took the chance to ask.
The Agori looked behind himself, searching through the seas of parts and trash, before turning back to him and replying at a noticeably less shrill tone of voice: "Define 'Toa-like bugger', please?"
"Something shaped roughly like a Toa, or a Glatorian, I guess," the other explained, gesturing to indicate the general width and build of his own body. He raised a hand up to roughly the top of his head, but hushed with an uncertain grimace; he glanced back at Kopaka as he lifted his palm in short jerks, silently asking for confirmation until his friend nodded in approval of the height he was approximating. "A bit taller than one, maybe."
"Oh, there's that broken Exo-Toa," Vican piped up.
"Hm! Yes, that might work," Nuparu nodded as they all moved towards the mess (Berix dove back into the metal waves, no doubt on the prowl for the mentioned machine) "A couple Vortixx dragged it in. Though I should warn you it's essentially unusable - its circuits are completely fried and it doesn't activate even if you try starting it up manually. Trust me, we tried."
"So it can't move?"
"Not at all. If you needed it for some heavy work-"
"Oh no, don't worry about that," the Toa of Stone waved his words away amiably: "What are your plans with it?"
The other shrugged: "We're just gonna dismantle it for parts, really."
Pohatu beamed with the strength of twenty suns shining through an equal amount magnifying glasses: "Can Kopaka help?"
The Ko-Toa replied to the inventor and his assistant's puzzled stares by deploying onto them an unreadable blank gaze, lending no further clarification on the strange request.
Vican scrunged his face, looking up to his companion for guidance.
Finding only a confusion identical to if not double his own, he hazarded a tentative: "... yyyes?"
Pohatu grinned.
He instantly swiveled towards his friend, finger outstretched to touch his nose: "You said you would."
"I said I could," Kopaka corrected him.
"Which means you would," the other insisted triumphantly, as if he'd won a bet: "Or you wouldn't even have mentioned that you could."
The Toa of Ice flicked his hand away, earning a chuckle.
Vican and Nuparu remained utterly perplexed.
Berix shrieked something in their direction, triumphantly reappearing from the ocean of trash as he waved at them with frantic motions. His little jumpy frame stood in stark contrast next to the headless figure of metal and tubes that silently casted its shadow across him, stoic and solemn much like an ancient pillar: a slightly closer look revealed however the Exo-Toa's more than poor conditions as what first might have seemed like unusual games of light and shadow caused by the reflective nature of the materials revealed themselves to be dents, punctures, scratches, acid burns, cracks and holes littering the otherwise smooth armor.
The Agori skittered to the group with a proud expression: "I got it back on its feet all on my own," he gloated - which he had every right to do, considering how spindly he was and how many several dozens of kilos that thing likely weighted more than him. "But, if you - did Nuparu tell you it doesn't-"
"We did, we did," Vican reassured him, "But they don't need it whole."
"Oh! Oh, just, for scraps? In that case can I ask you if we can- I'd like to keep the, uh, the--" and he made a weird gesture, as if trying to convey the feeling of some kind of smooth, glassy coverage through miming alone. "--That? Because I was thinking I could- you know how the sand comes into the chariot and your eyes and everything, and I thought maybe that could be a, a useful sort of, kind of--"
Pohatu waved amiably, unbothered by the quick pace of the other's speech: "You can keep the whole thing, don't worry! Oh, unless - do you need the tubes and circuits?"
"Well, t-the circuits are fried, so... No..." Berix replied, trailing.
He was a little distracted due to his increasingly confused focus being diverted towards Kopaka, whom he watched leave the small congregation in order to scout around the garage, evaluate a set of options of which only he was aware, and begin to scale a perilous yet miraculously stable pile of hazardous sharp metal angles without a single word.
Pohatu was blissfully none the wiser of his nonsense: "And the tubes? Are they still useful or..."
"The what?"
"The-"
"OH, the tubes, yes! I mean, uhm, no, those are - those are also, uh, completely worthless. To us, maybe not to you... B-but we didn't clean them so there's still--"
A terrifying groan covered any further explanation he might have attempted to offer.
Kopaka was, presently, perched upon his newly found vantage spot whilst glaring venomously at the Exo-Toa, like the warped image of a feline or perhaps some kind of bird of prey. The horrendous sound had come from the half-assed structure onto which he held like his life depended on it - as it very likely did - when his weight had bent it ever so slightly forward, threatening to topple it at any moment.
He flattened himself against the metal.
One second later he'd pounced onto the machine.
The Exo-Toa recoiled from the impact, swaying dangerously but setting itself back on its feet right as it seemed to give in and crash onto the ground. The Toa of Ice scaled its side like a fury until he reached the massive shoulder: without the slightest hint of doubt he shoved his entire face in the joint, open jaws clamping hard onto the miriad of wires, thin rubbery conduits, weak aluminium and whatever else they could find to then yank them out in a furious frenzy. Then, accompanied by a horrible sound - something akin to both the wet squelch of rent flesh and the howling shrieks of scratched iron - he tore the limb's artificial innards apart with a ghastly spray of oily, dark, murky liquid.
The arm dislodged itself from its socket, its connection maimed beyond repair; Kopaka, face and hair and clothes soaked in grease and coolant and who knows what else, threw it aside with a deafening clang and spat the veins that had held it together.
Nuparu, Vican and Berix stood very still, eyes wide.
Pohatu recoiled hard, screaming: "WOO!", and laughed hysterically for thirty entire seconds.
Then he threw his hands in the air, yelled a second, more enthusiastic "WOO!!" and laughed even harder.
The engineers' concern skyrocketed.
They observed the Po-Toa run up to meet his friend as he slowly and gracelessly clambered back down the now one-armed mech with a slightly drunken air about him, no doubt due to the adrenaline rush slowly dying out: once close enough, Pohatu yanked a sleeve off his own shirt and slapped it with as much gentleness as his current erratic emotional state allowed him all over Kopaka's face in a well-meaning attempt at cleaning him up a little before the disgusting concoction smearing his skin dried up.
He stopped briefly once the Toa of Ice's features were back to their natural colors, though still occasionally streaked here and there with dark jagged lines or murky spots. First he squashed the cool face between his hands; then he moved his grip to the damp shoulders as if needing support before he keeled over.
Once he was somewhat stable again, Pohatu raised his head with a grin that threatened to open his face in half and shook his friend in his grasp: "You are insane!" he laughed, at a high enough volume that he could have knocked a small child clean out and back two bio.
Kopaka's scowl somehow made him look awfully proud of himself.
Nuparu opened his mouth; before he could suck in the breath that he was planning to use for a question, the Po-Toa was beaming again: "Can you do it with the other one too?"
His companion was just as quick: in a second he bolted out of the friendly grip and scaled the Exo-Toa until he was once more perched on its mighty shoulders, slinking along with formidable agility that really proved he could be called Lewa's brother; he didn't even bother to make sure his footing was secure, such was the frenzy that overtook him as he launched his assault on the other limb - his own hastiness causing him to end up upside down, pulling the cables and tubes along with himself and dousing his face with a second waterfall that now managed to drench his hair from its roots to its tips.
Pohatu hollered a third time, louder than the metal arm's clanging as it fell. He grasped his chest breathlessly and bent down, free hand on his knee to keep him from folding like a badly set camping chair, as positively crazed cackles continued to spill out of his mouth.
Face flushed dark, he grinned: "I'VE NEVER BEEN MORE SCARED IN MY LIFE!"
Berix (on account of being more aware of feelings which former inhabitants of the Matoran Universe likely didn't even know existed) was pretty sure that the emotion coursing through the Toa's veins at the moment was very much something else.
"Do you think they'll dismember us too if we ask them to stop?" Nuparu pondered calmly as Pohatu shouted at Kopaka to do his trick on the machine's legs as well.
Vican watched first the organic creature ram into the wearable mech hard enough to topple it, subsequently unleashing his carnage upon the hip seams, then his friend react to the horrible spectacle by falling on his ass in unadulterated ecstasy whilst shouting "YES! YES!!", and finally concluded in a very quiet voice: "I'd rather not try our luck with that."
