Ethics in Social Media - Does it Exist?

Is there such a thing as organic social media? The type that feeds you real information without the ads, emulsifiers, color additives, bleaching and sweetening agents? According to Sam Carr from PPC Protect, a typical person is exposed to 6,000-10,000 ads per day. Millions and millions of algorithms a day using our data from sites such as Facebook, Instagram, Tinder, Bumble, etc. Not only are we the product but also the demand. It’s a do-loop created by us, for us and to screw us. The argument 1) People know it’s public 2) People agree to share. Therefore, because it’s public, there’s “informed consent”, it’s absolutely ethical to use the information in any way, shape or form.  Think about it, ads in emails, social media pages, television, radio, mail, billboards, google words. It’s manipulation at it’s finest.  Unfollow everyone on your Instagram or Facebook, now tell me what you’re left with.  

Be cognizant of your surroundings, look both ways before crossing but more importantly, live life with purpose, freedom and inward focus.  Be aware of the interdependence that exist with social media and its associated ads. Recognize the importance of solitude and its necessity to build self awareness, to get creative and enrich human relationships.  You’ll never clear the fog unless you know it exist.
