"ARTISTS X-PONENT ENGINEERING was a company based out of Menlo Park, California. It seems that the BPA-1 Buffer Pre-Amp was the first of 3 plug-in effects produced by AXE (at least from what the 1982 catalogue would indicate). Here's what said manual/catalogue tells us: -Super boost your signal up to 20 dB -Adds punch and highs lost when using effects devices -Direct instrument plug-in eliminates cord loading -Signal is ALWAYS buffered at all gains -Battery life in excess of 1000 hours AXE's Buffer Pre-Amp eliminates the loss of signal level and punch when using effects devices or driving long cords. But, unlike other preamps, AXE's Buffer section is ALWAYS in the circuit removing the effects of loading. The unit's switchable, variable gain can increase you instrument's output 10X. There are many floor-box style preamplifiers available, all with one glaring design fault: they are on the floor!!! The loading effects caused by the instrument's cord can not be resolved from this location. AXE's Buffer Pre-Amp is where it should be: in the instrument. But the REAL PLUS is that it makes a terrific, AFFORDABLE DIRECT BOX for ANY instrument. It is capable of driving up to 1000 ft. of cable without loss of signal level or highs. Every instrument with a pick-up or transducer -- guitar, bass, or keyboard -- will benefit from the use of AXE's Buffer Pre-Amp SPECIFICATIONS Bandwidth: 20Hz to 20 kHz, plus or minus 0.5dB (any gain) Maximum Output: +7 dBV THD+N: Less than 0.08% (any gain) Gain: 0 to 20 dB (variable) Equivalent Input Noise: -106 dBm (20kHz BW) Maximum Input Signal: 2.3 V (+9dBm) Input Impedance: 5 ohms"

Back before we stopped having Satellite TV and switched to streaming services, I have this vivid memory of a very specific Adult Swim buffer cartoon of this pixel art duo of heroes fighting this villain, and the male half of the duo literally penis blasts their opponent, as an attack. I only ever saw it once, and sometimes I think about it and how crazy it was, especially with the rise of the “penis blast” meme on Tumblr. I wish I could find it, but something tells me that searching “adult swim penis blast buffer” on YouTube isn’t going to get me anywhere.

I'm sure Sun buffering as been animated before, but I felt the urge to do my own take on it, just to see if I could.

I checked my buffer quota formulas a few weeks ago and determined that, by the date when I return from my cruise, under normal circumstances there ought to be thirteen cartoons in the buffer for fall. I counted what's there as of today and there are twelve. It's not unreasonable for me to expect myself to do some of the makeup work before and some after, so now I don't have to worry about the buffer till I get back.

I may still draw for the buffer while I'm on the cruise. I don't imagine that even cruise activities and getting to know in-laws I haven't met since my stepdaughter's wedding in 2008(?) will occupy me the whole time. I'll be bringing my laptop, though for about a week I was considering leaving it behind lest it be confiscated by customs somewhere along the line. All it could take, I was reasoning, is for me to have gotten on someone's list for one of my cartoons or my blogposts, and it'll be off to El Salvador for me. But I decided not to live my life in fear. Remember the two-part DS9 with Robert Foxworth? Also I'm white, male, and baby boomer, and that's not a demographic they're after, yet.

I dunno what kind of internet connectivity they have and I'm not going to worry about it till I get there. I'll post about it here when I'm heading out later this week, so if I do vanish from my socials you'll know why. And I'll very neatly be gone only between two Thursdays so I shouldn't miss any Murderbot.
