Yesterday was #chardonnayday Chardonnay and I have a love hate relationship I have had very good Chardonnay and some that I’ve literally spit out and not on purpose. When executed correctly you get these incredible lemon, apple, and even tropical fruits depending on when the grapes were harvested. You get a lovely minerality maybe even salinity depending on where the grapes are grown and lastly in oaked varieties you get that signature vanilla and butteriness that coats your tongue and can almost remind you of eating a decadent pastry. Tonight I am drinking Mannequin an Orin Swift wine, it is the most beautiful straw gold, it smells of sweet lemons and apple and you can almost picture the delicate white flowers that have just bloomed in the late spring, when it hits your tongue it is somehow both delicate and heavy coating your mouth with sweet cream butter and a tang of acidity on the finish as if you’ve bitten into a lemon curd pastry first buttery and then a sticky tangy sweetness coats your mouth as the curd burst from the pastry.
